The US Healthcare System Compared to Other Countries

The U.S. healthcare system is like no other industrialized country. The U.S. spends more money on health care than any other country yet is criticized for having one of the poorer health systems.
Some countries, such as Canada, Great Britain, and Sweden, follow a socialized system of health care, while others, such as Japan, Germany, and France, have decentralized national health programs.
Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.
If you had to decide on one health care system for the U.S., which system would you choose and why?
Which three areas of the current U.S. health care system would you add to the system you have chosen for the U.S.? Explain why.
Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning.
Disparities in Health Care Distribution
It is estimated that over 46 million people do not have health insurance coverage in the United States. In addition, many more individuals are underinsured or have such high deductibles and co-pays that they do not even seek medical care. Given this information, the logical question that arises is, should health care coverage be provided to everyone?
“Moreover, Is health care a right or a privilege?” is one of the most debatable topics. What is your viewpoint? Support your answer with examples. There is an unequal distribution of health care system efforts in the U.S. Why do you think this is so, and what can be done about it? Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning

Individual art

This is a case study to help you discover connections between the appreciation of art and the workplace.

Taking on the role of an art curator, you will recommend 3 Modern American works of art for the new location of a large pharmaceutical company that wants to invest in art with the theme of “progress” for its new company headquarters. The total budget for the purchase of the artwork is $600,000.

To find the 3 Modern American art works with the theme “progress,” visit famous auction houses such as this one and this one, professional galleries, and other Internet sites, and choose paintings, sculptures, or photography that would represent Modern American works of art for the company’s headquarters.
For each work of art, create 2 paragraphs that include the following:
The title of the work and the techniques and media used.
The artist’s name and a brief biography of the artist.
Cost of the art work; the budget allows for approximately $200,000 per work of art.
How do the characteristics and style of the Modern American artwork address the theme of “progress”?
What are the benefits of investing in art for a corporation?
Why might employees be interested in these works of art?
Prepare your response using Word. Include photos of the recommended pieces of art. Be sure to include citations and references as needed, although it is not necessary to format this as an APA document.

Jeff and Magda: Ethics in Cyberspace

Jeff and Magda, seniors at a small rural college, had been dating each other since they were freshmen. Jeff loved Magda and he planned to propose to her after they graduated in the spring. At the same time, though, he reluctantly recognized that their relationship had fallen into a bit of a rut over the last six months or so, and he missed the excitement and romance of their first year together. Although he was troubled by these conflicting feelings, Jeff was unsure what to do about them.

One day while he was surfing MySpace.com, Jeff decided, on a whim, to create a fake user profile for the person he wanted to be in his fantasies. He spent quite a bit of time researching and designing the profile of his imaginary persona, a rap singer/flamenco guitarist/snowboarder/kung fu expert who went by the user name “MoonDog13.”

Jeff inserted photos of an obscure young Romanian actor he found online into MoonDog13’s user profile. He posted lyrics to rap songs he wrote on MoonDog13’s page and joined online user groups for those interested in flamenco guitar, snowboarding, and kung fu. In very little time, MoonDog13 had made a number of online friends, many of whom were admiring young women. MoonDog13 loved to flirt with these girls.

Jeff told Magda nothing about MoonDog13, even when the time he spent online managing the fictitious life of his alter ego began to interfere in his relationship with her. He justified this decision based on the belief that MoonDog13 was an imaginary figure who existed only in cyberspace. As long as fantasy didn’t cross into reality, there was no reason Jeff had to feel guilty about anything MoonDog13 said or did.

Write a 500-600 word essay that answers the following:

Explain how Jeff’s actions are ethical or unethical.
Like Jeff, people in general have a reputation of acting differently in cyberspace than they do in the real world. Are the ethics of cyberspace any different from those of the real world? What about fantasy—are the ethics of our private desires different from the real world? Are we ethically obliged to disclose our fantasies to our loved ones? Discuss if ethics are different in the specified conditions.
The format of the report is to be as follows:

Typed, double spaced, Times New Roman font (size 12), one-inch margins on all sides, APA format.
Type the question followed by your answer to the question.
In addition to the 500-600 words required, a title page is to be included. The title page is to contain the title of the assignment, your name, the instructor’s name, the course title, and the date.
You will be graded on the completeness and quality of your answers, the logic/organization of the report, your language skills, and your writing skills.
Submit your assignment at the beginning of class, Week 4.

Actions for What can we do to improve healthcare?Over the weeks of this course we have covered a range of healthcare issues. Now, as we approach the last week of our course, please take a moment, step-back, and think about what we have learned.

It’s been quite a journey through a tremendous amount of material. I hope you have found it of interest and of value.

As you think about all this, your final challenge is to try and bring it all together in response to the following question:

How might the ways in which we produce, deliver, and pay for care be changed in order to increase access, improve quality, and the the cost of healthcare services?

This is a VERY BIG question that begs for a simple answer. But we should not be tempted by such simplicity. If the answer was simple, we more than likely would have already implemented it.
Rather, we need to dig through the different layers and dimensions of the US healthcare system to be able to see some of the underlying challenges, issues, barriers, and real opportunities that are part of the “big picture.”

So, from that big picture perspective, what would you change about the US healthcare system to make it better?
