Leading Organizational Change in Business

While change is inevitable in most organizations, there is a difference between change that is superficial and embedded sustaining change. Drawing from this week’s lecture and readings, discuss the processes for successfully implementing and sustaining change. Provide examples that are designed to help make change stick and apply at least one of the examples to an organizational change with which you are familiar.

Week Six Lecture

Exploring the concepts of change provided a synopsis of the dynamics involved in designing, communicating, implementing, and committing to change within the organizational structure. The final task for the change process is to understand the principles for sustaining change and learning from the failures associated with change initiatives. Understanding that there are times that a change process may not be quite as successful as expected is part of the overall package. The actions taken post failure or conflict will help determine the sustainability of the intended change movement.

Please listen to the following podcast: Succeeding through unexpected change (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Leadership must have a clear understanding of the behavioral variables associated with change so they do not fall prey to manipulation by the cultural dynamics of the organization. Resistance to change and the desire to keep things as they were is a behavior typically displayed during the change process. Being open to strategic dialog to address the fears will assist in the forward motion of the needed change initiative.

When a change process fails to meet the requirements specified, or totally fails, there is often a tendency to make hasty changes or abandon the initiative for another plan of action that only convolutes the failure into something even more catastrophic. Dealing head-on with a change process that did not meet the needs or failed allows the leader and the participants the opportunity to debrief and discover what went right, what went wrong, and the correct path for future implementation.

Heath and Heath (2008) explore the concepts of why some ideas stick and others never seem to get off of the ground. Is it perhaps the story that goes along with the idea that causes the initiative to stick? Telling a good story becomes a legend and the leader that fails to use the art of persuasive conversation may have a more difficult time of moving the concept along. We are never too important to become part of the story or process. The ground floor leader has a better chance of finding success and finding willing participants.

With open lines of communication regarding the impact for all shareholders, the leader is able to define the parameters for making the change operative sustainable. There are numerous reasons for change to occur within the organization. By developing an understanding of the reasons for the change, the participants are more likely to move forward and support the necessary actions required to make the change stick.

Changing the culture is not something that will happen overnight. The culture of the organization must be given the time and support necessary to allow the new behaviors to become part of the dynamics of the group. Individuals will support the concepts and follow the leader that is willing to make them part of the overall process. Understanding the “why” behind the change process is the catalyst for making the change possible and ultimately sustainable.

Elements of Reasoning and Intellectual Standards

For our assignment this week, you may choose either Option A or Option B. Regardless of the option you choose, be sure to read through the entire assignment directions before crafting your essay.
Additionally, use the Week Six Assignment Organization Guide to help you organize your paper.
HU260 W6 Assignment Organization Guide
Option A

Using the Eight Elements of Reasoning that were outlined in week two (purpose, problem, information, concepts, assumptions, inferences, points of view, implications, or consequences) choose a news article and break it down according to those elements. Make sure you address each of these elements. If one of these elements does not apply to your article (rare), address that in your essay and explain how the article could have been improved by including it or how the author is justified in leaving it out.
Option B
Describe how each of the Eight Intellectual Standards (clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, and fairness) were used or not used in the article, supported by an example. If one of these standards does not apply to your article (rare), address that in your essay and explain how the article could have been improved by including it or how the author is justified in leaving it out.
For either option you choose:
Write an introduction identifying the reasons for choosing either Option A or Option B and justify your reasoning.
In the conclusion of your essay, describe how you feel the article is biased.
Keep in mind, for either option you are being asked to analyze the article/author itself/himself/herself, NOT the topic discussed. Do not include your own opinion/position on the topic being addressed.
Your completed assignment should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.
Your assignment should adhere to the stated page length requirement for the week and use APA style formatting including a title page and reference section. You should use Times New Roman, 12pt. font, double-spaced lines, and one inch margins. A description of APA style and the APA template can be found in the Writing Center.

Business Law I unit 2 DB

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400 to 600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
In the Unit 1 Discussion Board, you analyzed a corporation’s social responsibility with regard to its customers. Not only do corporations have responsibly to their customers, but their corporate officers or directors owe fiduciary duties to their corporation and its stockholders. Corporate officers, such as a chief executive officer, president, chief financial officer, treasurer, corporate secretary, and so on are agents and carry out the daily operations of a corporation.
You are Phishy Pharmaceuticals’ CEO, and therefore an agent of Phishy Pharmaceuticals. This week you have learned agents have fiduciary duties they owe the corporation (principal)? Choose a fiduciary duty, and complete the following:
Based on the first initial of your last name, complete the following steps:
First initial A – L: Provide an argument as an agent (CEO) with a duty to the principle (Phishy) that supports the decision to leave the diet pill on the shelf.
First initial M – Z: Provide an argument as an agent (CEO) with a duty to the principle (Phishy) that supports your decision to remove the diet pill from the shelf

· 1″ margins
· Double-spaced
· 12 pt. Times New Roman font
· Include name on the front page

Transportation logistics management (318)

Analyze and then discuss the FAA press releases, the document can be found in the TLMT 318 Course Resources folder in the resource area Be careful to analyze, not react to, the list of proposed fines, there is a lot of information to be gleaned from careful analysis.Analysis requires calculation not observation so you will need to set measurable parameters and then do the calculations. Reading the fines it is easy to recognize that many of the fines were based upon the leaking packages, that is observation not analysis. Saying that some percentage of the total number fines represented leaking packages is analysis; saying that most of the incidents were caught by ground handling personnel is observation, saying that a specific percentage of all of the fines represent cases where ground handling personnel identified the problem is analysis. You are required to do analysis.

For your discussion:

A. Basic results of your analysis and a discussion of your findings based upon the scientific analysis you have conducted. this requires mathematical calculations and development of percentages for criteria you select.

B. Analysis of company owned material (COMAT) when it is shipped in the Airline industry and its supporting contractors.

C. The training issues raised by this list. We know that the right training is not going to the right people so come up with explanations and/or solutions (not fines and threats of jail time).

Strategy Concerns and Effective Management

From the first e-Activity, analyze the process for developing an IT budget within a health care organization, and select one (1) aspect of the budgeting process which is the most difficult to execute. Next, suggest one (1) technique which you could use to overcome the difficulty that you selected. Provide a rationale to support your response.
From the second e-Activity, determine the key reasons why change management in health care IT is a hot-button issue. Next, among the eight (8) fundamental stages for the process of change described by Kotter, select the most significant stage, and suggest one (1) way to complete the stage in question. Provide a rationale to support your response.
DUE TO ME NOT HAVING MY BOOK .. HERE IS ANOTHER GUEST ANSWER…

To develop an IT budget, one must decide first what items need to be covered. The list should include things such as payroll to run the IT, software, and hardware that is needed. The budget must also define the cost of running the IT department for a health care organization. The budget itself may also change depending on adding or subtracting costs.
There are two major areas of concern when establishing a budget- the first of which is deciding how to continue being competitive with the new Medicare/Medicaid limitations. The second challenge is the consumer aspect- if they factor into the budget. When forming the budget they have input from many areas- this can include the CEO, CFO and the finance department. (Andrews, 2009)
The one aspect of the budget process is determining what the final budget will be in relation to the insurers. The insurance companies have new laws put into place – which can change reimbursement very quickly. This could change a budget rather quickly and they would need to rethink their strategies.
The reason why management in health care IT is such a hot button issue is due to the constantly changing environment. With new health care laws, new factors are always being taken into consideration. Training always needs to be implement and revised with the new changes.
The eight fundamental steps for the process of change are increase urgency, build guiding teams, get the vision right, communication for buy-in, enable action, create short-term wins, don’t let up and make it stick. Of these 8 steps the one that is the most significant is get the vision right. When any organization needs to complete a goal they need to define that goal explicitly. There should generally not be any grey areas, and everyone should understand what needs to be accomplished. To complete the stage in question, team leaders should get together and write down all aspects of the goal. This should then be distributed to the staff/employees.
