Unit 4 Lab Assignment: Resource Leveling

Resource loading assigns the appropriate resource to the appropriate amount of time needed for each activity. Resource loading gives you a reality check on your project’s original schedule. You may become aware of constraints in your project such as misallocation of people or lack of needed resources. You may find flaws in your WBS and in your schedule.
To address these constraints, you will need to Resource Level, or smooth your project. You may need to shift non-critical tasks to later dates in order to maximize the use of your personnel without disrupting the delivery dates for your project.
Your assignment is to:
Develop a resource loading table using MS Project.
Use the resource leveling feature in MS Project to level your project. Assume that each of your people is devoting 40 hours per week on this project.
Respond in a one-page Word document to these questions:
What was your initial project baseline?
How did resource leveling affect the baseline?
Did you move your completion date out? If so, by how much?
Refer to page 390 for an example of a Resource Loading Table in your textbook: Project Management: Achieving Competitive Advantage, by Jeffrey Pinto, 3rd Edition.

Karvonen formula

Case Study 2

Calculations: Calculate the client’s target heart rate using the Karvonen formula.

Training Program: Design a full 12-week periodized training program for the client described in the Client Profile. Be very specific as you design the training program. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your full comprehension of the information and concepts discussed throughout the course. List the types of exercise, duration, sets, reps, rest intervals, and so on.

Include the following in your case study submission:

  • A description of your professional responsibilities as discussed in the stages of the drawing-in process (Unit 12)
  • Discussion of any fitness tests, methods of evaluation, and data collection used to assess and evaluate the client’s needs
  • Specific conditions that you have identified in the client profile
  • A fully detailed 12-week comprehensive and periodized training program including specific exercises, sets, repetitions, suggested rest times, etc. Use an integrated approach in your program recommendations.
  • Specific and detailed nutritional strategies and an explanation as to how the strategies will assist the client in meeting energy needs
  • Explanation for your chosen assessment, programming, and nutritional recommendations. (Be sure to reference course concepts when discussing rationale for your recommendations.

Keep in mind that a client should be able to take your program and put it into practice without having to contact you to clarify what you intended by your recommendations or to explain parts of your program.

Don’t forget your explanation for WHY you listed and recommended what you did. Reference the concepts and theories covered in the course. Be sure to address why the program and exercises recommended are appropriate for the specific client given the client’s history, current abilities, and intended goal(s). For example: if you are developing a program for a beginner client without any resistance training experience, explain how your program addresses the lack of experience, initial need for foundational development, process by which you would safely progress the client, etc. Tying your program to course concepts is a critical component of your case study.

Review the Client Profile below.

Client Profile: Steve Rogers

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Resting Heart Rate: 60 bpm

Height: 6’0″

Weight: 178 lb

Body Fat Percentage: 11%

Background and Goals: Steve is an avid runner and has been quite slim his whole life. He runs moderate- to long-distances three or four days per week. Running is his only physical activity. Steve has never been interested in resistance training because it is not his strong suit. Steve recently decided that he is tired of being skinny. He would like to put on some size and muscle before he travels back to his hometown for a good friend’s wedding in 12 weeks.

business ethics

Research the concepts “public good” and “private good”. From a business ethics perspective, should corporations and society focus on the environment and healthcare as either “public goods” or as “private goods”? Use any of the ethical perspectives (Utilitarianism, Kant’s Categorical Imperative, Rawl’s Fairness as Justice, etc) to justify your position.

Short Digital Presentation ASAP

by Nancy Allen
illustrated by Adam Doyle
Money actually grows on trees in this cute title. In the story, a farmer discovers a tree on his property that grows different kinds of money, depending on which animal fertilizer is used (of course, your kids will love that little tidbit.)

This is the assignment description below but you are basically creating a short presentation. You should mention at the end of the presentation, that the class will be presented with a group or collaborative assignment (task) where they will sort the coins and put them into the correct or matching container.

Select a content standard or lesson you are teaching this week in your educational setting. As part of that lesson, create a digital presentation delivering your content area instruction using an online presentation tool of your choice (though you may not use PowerPoint). OR based on what you learned in Week 5 about digital presentations, instruct your students on effective presentation qualities and have them create presentations around their learning this week.
To assist you, check out this website that explains 19 free presentation tools: http://blog.crazyegg.com/2013/05/28/online-presentation-tools/.
The presentation must reflect the do’s and don’ts of creating an effective presentation that you learned about in Module 5. Though you are not developing a PowerPoint presentation (a pre-21st century tool), the concepts presented in the module are applicable to any presentation.
For your Module 5 Assignment:
Decide who will be creating the presentation (i.e., you or your students) and for what purpose. (TEACHER WILL PRESENT)
Select the most effective presentation tool based on the purpose of the presentation.
Integrate the TPACK framework and at least one of the 21st-century literacy fluencies into the presentation. For example: Have students work in teams (collaborative fluency) to create a presentation that presents their solution to an authentic problem in the content area that they solved through the use of various technology tools (TPACK framework). (Students will work in groups to sort coins in the containers)

Unit 4 Project Management Application

Unit 4 Project Management Application
NOTE: Our Project Management Assignment in this unit is a forum so that we can share our ideas in a collaborative discussion. Your main post to this forum must be entered on or before Thursday evening of this current week.
Every project has limitations or constraints. As our textbook points out, the number one constraint is the “availability of resources, both money and people, at the critical times they are needed” (Pinto, Project Management). We don’t always have the people to perform project tasks, or the materials or equipment to complete a project. Further, money or budgets can limit project performance.
Managing and scheduling resources, which includes making sure resources are readily available, presents a challenge for any project manager.
Conduct some research on the Internet. Look for examples of projects that have suffered or are currently suffering from one of the following:
Time constraints
Resource constraints
Mixed constraints
In your post, describe the project. Include the scope of the project. Cite evidence of the type of constraint you have identified. What evidence is there of how the project is working to minimize or resolve these constraints? If you were the PM, how would you deal with and overcome this constraint?
When you reply to your classmates, evaluate their example used.
Note: You need to reply to only two of your classmates for this forum assignment. These two replies can be posted on the same day/evening.
Grading Criteria
55% Content: Accurate, organized and thorough responses that demonstrate critical thinking and analysis.
30% Written Communication: Clearly and concisely written, proper sentence and paragraph structure, grammar and spelling; proper use of APA format.
15% reply posts (only two replies are required).

BUS 472L Unit 4 Discussion: Project Scheduling

Unit 4 Discussion: Project Scheduling

In your Unit 3 Lab Assignment, you prepared a cost estimate for your project and you developed a delivery schedule. You created a Gantt chart for your project indicating critical paths, total project duration and float.

Respond to the following questions:

  • What was the critical path for your project?
  • What was your total project duration?
  • What was the float on one of your tasks?
  • When replying to your classmates, note if you had similar numbers. Do you think he/she had good timing and scheduling?

Theory of Consumer Choice and Frontiers of Microeconomics

Week 5 exposes students to subjects that are intended to whet their appetites for further study in economics. Students will use the theory of consumer choice and the impact of the concepts of asymmetric information, political economy, and behavior economics, to describe how consumers make economic decisions.

Assignment Steps

Scenario: You have been asked to assist your organization’s marketing department to better understand how consumers make economic decisions.

Write a 1,050-word analysis including the following:

  • The impact the theory of consumer choice has on:
    • Demand curves
    • Higher wages
    • Higher interest rates
  • The role asymmetric information has in many economic transactions.
  • The Condorcet Paradox and Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem in the political economy.
  • People are not rational in behavior economics.

Cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources not including your textbook.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

BUS 472 Project Termination

Unit 5 Discussion: Project Termination
You may be surprised to hear that 40% of IT application development projects are canceled before they are completed. And, 33% of the remaining IT projects experience cost and schedule overruns and/or changes in scope. IT project failures account for billions of dollars in losses per year (Pinto, Project Management).
Knowing when to terminate a project and how to read the warning signs that a project is at risk is important. Project managers often face difficult decisions about if and when to terminate a project before its completion. Perhaps the costs are higher than expected and there is not enough return on investment. Perhaps the project no longer supports the firm’s strategic plan. Perhaps deadlines are continually missed, or the technology has changed so rapidly that it is now beyond the project’s objectives.
Regardless of the reasons why a project is terminated early, there are emotional and intellectual issues that must be dealt with when shutting down a project.
In your opinion, why is it so difficult to bring IT projects to successful completion?
Identify some reasons why the cancellation for IT projects is so high.
Think of a real world situation where you were a member of a project team that was terminated. Describe this project. Identify the emotional and intellectual issues that arose. If you were the project manager, what steps could you take to offset any negative issues?
When you reply to your classmates, what would you do differently as the PM?
