Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Discussion: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

It is estimated that more than 6% of the U.S. population will experience posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in their lifetime (National Center for PTSD, 2010). This debilitating disorder often interferes with an individual’s ability to function in daily life. Common symptoms of anxiousness and depression frequently lead to substance abuse issues and even physical ailments. For this Discussion, as you examine the Thompson Family Case Study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with PTSD.

· Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide.

· View the media Academic Year in Residence: Thompson Family Case Study, and assess the client in the case study.

· For guidance on assessing the client, refer to pages 137–142 of the Wheeler text in this week’s Learning Resources.

Note: To complete this Discussion, you must assess the client, but you are not required to submit a formal Comprehensive Client Assessment.

Post an explanation of your observations of the client in Thompson Family Case Study, including behaviors that align to the PTSD criteria in DSM-5. Then, explain therapeutic approaches you might use with this client, including psychotropic medications if appropriate. Finally, explain expected outcomes for the client based on these therapeutic approaches. Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

Business Finance – Operations Management

The manager must be able to solve problems, communicate, and lead teams toward the completion of a task.     You are the manager of the northern branch of the Laurel City Bowling Alleys.  The owner, Jill Espy, has 4 other bowling alleys around town.  The average employee assigned to the concession stand of all the Laurel City Bowling Alleys lasts approximately 3 years.  However, in your branch, the average employee lasts only 8 months.  Jill is concerned about the lack of retention of concession employees especially since training new employees is costly to the company and this high turnover is costing her money that could be better spent elsewhere.  You have talked with your current concession staff and have learned that pay and scheduling may have some effect on the turnover rate.   Employees feel that the pay is low and the scheduling is erratic making it difficult to make plans outside of work.  You know that employees do not benefit from pay raises because they tend to leave before being at the alleys for a year.   One worker indicated that many of the workers do not know how to handle difficult customers.  It makes them not want to come to work.   At the time, the focus seems to be on getting the job done rather on customer service.

•Using the employee’s feedback and other facts from the case scenario, what ideas should you consider motivating or changing employee morale that would encourage employees to stay longer in the job?

Write a Research Paper discussing an aspect of military mental health issues

Write a Research Paper discussing an aspect of military mental health issues (including spiritual factors) from the list below. Provide more than just a secular viewpoint or spiritual perspective. Balance the paper with both a biblical worldview and theoretical perspectives. Integrate them using journal articles or book chapters on the topics as sources. Cite everything. The references submitted for the Reference List in Module/Week 4 must be included in this assignment as well.

Make sure that every issue is examined as related to military personnel. If you wish to use a related topic that is not shown here, you must seek and receive permission by the instructor by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of Module/Week 2.

  • PTSD as a result of military service (non-combat causation)
  • Combat-related PTSD
  • Negative coping behaviors related to PTSD in the military (self-mutilation, eating disorders, sex addiction, gambling, suicide, extreme risk-taking behavior, alcohol abuse, abuse of illegal drugs, abuse of prescription and/or legal drugs). The addressed behavior must be linked to military personnel for a majority of the paper.
  • Military service-related depression
  • TBI from military service-related causation
  • Military family mental health issues

Military mental health issues caused by isolation and alienation (families that have a service member deployed; a service member unable to be or feel accepted in his/her unit; the effect of frequent relocation on military spouse and dependents, etc.)

  • Military sexual trauma
  • Women in the military (mental health issues excluding military sexual trauma)

·         As expected in a 400-level class, APA style and grammar will be graded very strictly. Proofread carefully before submitting.

·         It is very important to cite any information taken from an outside source. Plagiarism is defined as passing off someone else’s work as your own and it is a serious academic offense. Papers are submitted through SafeAssign to check for the proper citing of sources. You may submit a draft version to check your score, then redo and submit. Plagiarizing your paper will result minimally in failure of the assignment and can also result in automatic failure of the course with academic discipline. Make sure that all work is your own or is cited appropriately.

·         Points will be taken off if the body of the Research Paper is below 10 pages or exceeds 12 pages (excluding the title page, abstract, and references).

·         Include at least 12 current references (within the last 10 years). Points will be deducted for each missing current reference. The Bible and the course texts may be cited, but will not count toward the 12 required references.

·         Follow the most current edition of APA style.

·         The Research Paper will be graded on thoroughness, content, and use of theoretical material and integration of biblical perspective.

Business Finance – Operations Management

Deliverable Length: 300 words

Course Comprehensive Project

Collaboration in a business environment is a best practice that leverages the collective knowledge of the team assembled. Peer evaluation and support, provided in the spirit of continuous improvement and organizational success, result in higher quality deliverables than generally possible by the efforts of an individual.

Please describe the process you plan to use to conduct research, identify findings, and develop the Comprehensive Project due in Unit 5 and present a preliminary outline indicating how you intend to organize the project deliverable.

Please see attachment for Project due in Unit 5

verbal and non-verbal communication

Write a 700- to 1,050 word paper discussing the following:

· How do people communicate? Provide examples of verbal and nonverbal communication. How do you communicate nonverbally?

· In what way can knowledge of nonverbal communication help your communication with others?

· Analyze your results for the Student Listening Inventory. What do you do well? What can you improve on? What changes can you make in your behavior to become a better listener? What results do you expect to get from this change?

Format your assignment according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines.

Service Strategy Exercise

Identify an organization where service is lacking, or that has experienced a recent decline in service. (For example, you went out to dinner and had poor service at the restaurant, or you spent time flying and experienced poor customer service on your trip)

Name of Organization

Service Issue

Research the mission statement of the company and write it below

Answer each of the following sections in 250 to 350 words.

1. Define one current service that you can enhance or is not meeting your company’s desired objectives based on the goals outlined in the mission statement. How is the company not meeting the service expectations of the customer? (For example, courteous, satisfaction guaranteed, the customer is always right, etc.)

2. Develop an optimum service process flow for the company. What needs to change from the current status in order to make the process better for the customer? (for example, a long drive through line results in a server outside taking orders to expedite the process)

3. Explain how the service strategy that you developed earlier will be measured in order to determine whether it is successful or not. Evaluate items such as complaints/recognitions, loyalty factor, and social media reviews.

Business & Finance

Identify and describe in detail one engineering failure that occurred prior to the year 1900 for Small and widespread (eg Sydney water cryptosporidium and giardia contamination 1998; bunk beds childhood falls 2005; Backyard trampoline non-compliance 2003-2013).
Place yourself in the seat of an engineer who was causally involved in each failure and answer the following questions for each failure:

• Small – Minor Injuries and property damage, may not result in loss of life.

•Widespread – although the causing incident was localized it has effects distributed over a large geographical area.

Whatever failure you choose, it must be an engineering failure for which you can readily obtain information. You are required to provide:

1- General Introduction.

2- A brief background to the failure and why you believe your example qualifies as an engineering failure (as distinct from a non-engineering failure).

3 – Define the Inherent risk.

4- Conduct a risk assessment to quantitatively verify the magnitude of the risk exposure in terms of deaths / injuries / damages / costs using a recognized method such as: Causal Diagram and FMEA.

Describe in detail the causal chain (ie show causality from the root cause (s) to the failure event) and FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and provide a causal diagram and FMEA (as an Appendix).

5 – Would the pre-failure mitigation have passed the HSE Tolerability of Risk (ToR) test (ie you need to demonstrate the consequences of the failure in terms of deaths / injuries / damages / costs to confirm whether they were / were not 10x or greater than the sacrifice / investment entailed with the implementation of any pre-accident countermeasures).

6- Lessons were learned from this failure.

7- Conclusion and recommendations.
