Discussion: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

 It is estimated that more than 6% of the U.S. population will experience posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in their lifetime (National Center for PTSD, 2010). This debilitating disorder often interferes with an individual’s ability to function in daily life. Common symptoms of anxiousness and depression frequently lead to substance abuse issues and even physical ailments. For this Discussion, as you examine the Thompson Family Case Study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with PTSD.

· Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide.

· View the media Academic Year in Residence: Thompson Family Case Study, and assess the client in the case study.

· For guidance on assessing the client, refer to pages 137–142 of the Wheeler text in this week’s Learning Resources.

Note: To complete this Discussion, you must assess the client, but you are not required to submit a formal Comprehensive Client Assessment.

Post an explanation of your observations of the client in Thompson Family Case Study, including behaviors that align to the PTSD criteria in DSM-5. Then, explain therapeutic approaches you might use with this client, including psychotropic medications if appropriate. Finally, explain expected outcomes for the client based on these therapeutic approaches. Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

The manager must be able to solve problems, communicate, and lead teams toward the completion of a task.     You are the manager of the northern branch of the Laurel City Bowling Alleys.  The owner, Jill Espy, has 4 other bowling alleys around town.  The average employee assigned to the concession stand of all the Laurel City Bowling Alleys lasts approximately 3 years.  However, in your branch, the average employee lasts only 8 months.  Jill is concerned about the lack of retention of concession employees especially since training new employees is costly to the company and this high turnover is costing her money that could be better spent elsewhere.  You have talked with your current concession staff and have learned that pay and scheduling may have some effect on the turnover rate.   Employees feel that the pay is low and the scheduling is erratic making it difficult to make plans outside of work.  You know that employees do not benefit from pay raises because they tend to leave before being at the alleys for a year.   One worker indicated that many of the workers do not know how to handle difficult customers.  It makes them not want to come to work.   At the time, the focus seems to be on getting the job done rather on customer service.

Write a Research Paper discussing an aspect of military mental health issues (including spiritual factors) from the list below. Provide more than just a secular viewpoint or spiritual perspective. Balance the paper with both a biblical worldview and theoretical perspectives. Integrate them using journal articles or book chapters on the topics as sources. Cite everything. The references submitted for the Reference List in Module/Week 4 must be included in this assignment as well.

Identify and describe in detail one engineering failure that occurred prior to the year 1900 for Small and widespread (eg Sydney water cryptosporidium and giardia contamination 1998; bunk beds childhood falls 2005; Backyard trampoline non-compliance 2003-2013).
Place yourself in the seat of an engineer who was causally involved in each failure and answer the following questions for each failure:

• Small – Minor Injuries and property damage, may not result in loss of life.

•Widespread – although the causing incident was localized it has effects distributed over a large geographical area.

Whatever failure you choose, it must be an engineering failure for which you can readily obtain information. You are required to provide: 

1- General Introduction.

2- A brief background to the failure and why you believe your example qualifies as an engineering failure (as distinct from a non-engineering failure).

3 – Define the Inherent risk.

4- Conduct a risk assessment to quantitatively verify the magnitude of the risk exposure in terms of deaths / injuries / damages / costs using a recognized method such as: Causal Diagram and FMEA.

Describe in detail the causal chain (ie show causality from the root cause (s) to the failure event) and FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and provide a causal diagram and FMEA (as an Appendix).

5 – Would the pre-failure mitigation have passed the HSE Tolerability of Risk (ToR) test (ie you need to demonstrate the consequences of the failure in terms of deaths / injuries / damages / costs to confirm whether they were / were not 10x or greater than the sacrifice / investment entailed with the implementation of any pre-accident countermeasures).
