CMLT-C 110 (8032): Writing the World: Where’d You Go?

The short paper should be 3 paragraphs long.

Paragraph I

-Compare and contrast an aspect (character, scene, theme etc…) of Cymbeline with an aspect of your choice from The Epic of Gilgamesh.

Paragraph II

-Find a passage that gives us insight into one character from The Epic of Gilgamesh. What does it reveal about them, their view of themselves, their attitude towards others (etc…)? Why is this passage important?

Paragraph III

-Choose either Gilgamesh or Enkidu from The Epic of Gilgamesh and explain how\why the character in question undergoes change. Be sure to point out the kind of change this character experiences.

· No direct quotations — just list the page numbers in parentheses to direct me to the appropriate areas in the text. Do not waste space summarizing the plot.

· Proofread carefully. Be sure to italicize the title of the novel every time you use it.

· All 3 Short Papers for the semester will follow this same format: 1 ½ – 2 pages long; double-spaced; 12-point font size, 3 paragraphs long, each paragraph should be between half a page and 2/3 of a page long; no extra spaces between paragraphs; stapled if not double-sided; your name on both pages; course number on both pages; date; short paper number; careful proofreading, especially for missing words, misspelled words, sentence fragments, improperly marked book titles, garbled phrases, missing and misused apostrophes. A title and works cited page are not necessary for these 3 assignments. The purpose of the short papers is to help you develop your own ideas about our literature. Do not use any outside sources for these assignments! The short papers are worth 3 points because each paragraph is worth 1 point. However, one of the 3 points can be lost if there are more than 2 errors in proofreading.

The Rise and Fall of Enron

You have an opportunity to look more closely at Enron along with analyzing why a big company that was so successful collapsed so quickly. You will look at internal policies as well as the role of the external auditors. In addition to the requirements for the analysis of a case study covered below, please specifically answer the following questions:

How sound was the business model developed by Skilling and Lay for gas and for other products?

What explains the many strategic misadventures by Enron domestically and internationally?

How did the internal systems and processes support or inhibit Enron’s strategy?

Required for the Analysis of a Case Study:

Provide a 4–6 page Case Study Analysis using the following format:

Format: Must include these headers

Title page

Company and Situation: Describe the Company and Situation
To begin your case study analysis, discuss the critical incidents that have contributed to the current position of the company. Here you must identify the most important facts surrounding the case.
Does the problem or challenge facing the company come from a changing environment, new opportunity, a declining market share, or inefficient internal or external business processes?

Strengths, Weaknesses and Alternatives: Identify Strengths and Weaknesses as well as Alternatives
Examine the value creation functions of the company and specify alternative courses of action.
List the courses of action the company can take to solve its problem or meet the challenge it faces. What changes to organizational processes would be required by each alternative? What management policy would be required to implement each alternative? Remember, there is a difference between what an organization “should do” and what that organization actually “can do.” Some solutions are too expensive or operationally difficult to implement, and you should avoid solutions that are beyond the organization’s resources. Important: Identify the constraints that will limit the solutions available. Is each alternative executable given these constraints?

Implementations: Analyze Implementations This portion of the case study analysis requires that you identify and analyze the structure and control systems that the company is using to implement its business strategies. Evaluate organizational change, levels of hierarchy, employee rewards, conflicts, and other issues that are important to the company you are analyzing.

Recommendations: Make Recommendations The final part of your case study analysis should include your recommendations for the company. Every recommendation you make should be based on and supported by the context of your case study analysis, i.e., what you have already written.

Additional Questions: Answer the additional questions as shown below. Each question should be placed in bold as a header:
How sound was the business model developed by Skilling and Lay for gas and for other products?
What explains the many strategic misadventures by Enron domestically and internationally?
How did the internal systems and processes support or inhibit Enron’s strategy?

References: Reference page

Access the case study template formatted in APA.

The case analysis should be a minimum of four pages, double-spaced. Check for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and usage. Citations should use APA style.

HLS 470 DB5

You are the critical infrastructure protection (CIP) specialist in the plans directorate of a public safety organization in one of the 100 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the United States.

Based on the total number of Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources (CIKR) in your jurisdiction (national, state, county, and local), you have been tasked by the director of public safety to develop some courses of action to inform a recommendation regarding the use of available resources for protection of CIKR.

The director understands the complexities associated with the many contributing factors and realizes that there will always exist a shortfall or deficiency between essential tasks and available resources. The director also understands there will never be one solution that captures everything that needs to be considered and accomplished. The director will make the final decision based on your assessment.

Review and reflect on the knowledge you have gained from this course. Based on your review and reflection, write at least 3 paragraphs on the following:

  • What were the most compelling topics learned in this course?
  • How did participating in discussions help your understanding of the subject matter? Is anything still unclear that could be clarified?
  • What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information?
