Fair-Minded Qualities

Fair-Minded Qualities

After reading this week’s lectures on the qualities of a Fair-Minded Thinker, select one quality you feel you possess and describe how you embody this quality.

Next, select two qualities you feel you need to improve upon.

Using the five step decision making process outlined below, create a plan of action to improve in those areas. Please be sure to outline the specific steps you’ll take to overcome any obstacles you face.

Your completed assignment should be written primarily in first person and should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.

Decision Making Process

Step One: As clearly as possible, define the decision you are faced with.

Step Two: Consider each possible choice you have for resolving the issue.

Step Three: Gather as much relevant information as time allows, and identify the pros and cons of each of the choices you have to solve your issue.

Step Four: Based on your list of pros and cons, choose the best method for resolving the issue.

Step Five: Construct a plan of action to implement your method (be sure to leave yourself enough flexibility to make adjustments as necessary).

Assignment

W3 Reflection Journal "Problem Solving"

Strategies for Decision Making

Problem Solving

Throughout the course, we will be coming back to the decision making process and discussing how we solve problems. Many of the things we discuss in the course refer to avoiding the pitfalls that many people make in problem solving. In your opinion, what is problem solving? Why is it important? What is an example of a time you succeeded at solving a problem? What is a time you failed at solving a problem?

Your work should be at least 500 words, but mostly draw from your own personal experience. This should be written in first person and give examples from your life. Be sure if you are using information from the readings that you properly cite your readings in this, and in all assignments.

Norse Culture

For this research project, you need to pick a world culture and then research that culture in terms of its beliefs (and folklore). For this paper you need to know when and where they lived, but that should not be the focus of your paper. Where and when they lived doesn't talk about their beliefs, although it influenced them. You want to make sure and discuss things like their myths (how they believed they were created), any of their arts or crafts, folk medicine beliefs, proverbs, etc. The paper should be at least 6-8 pages, double-spaced, in 12pt, Times New Roman. It should have a 1" margin on all sides, and any sources that you use should be cited using MLA citation

Writing Assignment.

For this assignment I am asking you to look at some of the footage (link below) of the opening of the concentration camps by American soldiers.  It is pretty wrenching viewing.

The material is from the national archives and is the actual footage used as evidence at the Nuremburg War trials.  You don't need to watch too much…10 -15 minutes is fine.  Remember that this footage does not even cover the 'big' concentration camps.   These are smaller camps and hospitals.    While you are watching, pay special attention to the opening statements.  The John Ford mentioned is the same John Ford who directed great movies like Stagecoach and The Grapes of Wrath.  Also, you will hear from the Special Effects director for a major American film studio.  Think carefully about what both men have to say about the footage.  In the actual video, depending on how far in you watch, you will see the' big three' American generals, Eisenhower, Patton and Bradley, along with a Congressional delegation, touring a camp.  Consider the voice over at this point.    Then, in a short essay (1page) discuss the ways this video is 'cited' to assure its viewers that it is authentic.  Why do you think such pains were taken to make this clear?
