business & environmental sustainability

Written Assignments
• You will submit three written assignments during the course. Written assignments are your chance to demonstrate course learning by grappling with an issue related to business & society. These entries are an opportunity for you to think about the course material, integrate it with the wealth of knowledge you’ve gained thus far as a student, and ultimately to use that knowledge to address relevant phenomena and situations; your own experiences and/or real-life events.

• As we cover topics in class, certain concepts, phenomena, and/or events will capture your interest. As they do, your job is to think about how you can analyze that concept/phenomenon/event. I will give examples in class as they come up to help give the assignment more structure.

• The format of your written assignment can vary. Students often submit assignments in the following forms:
o (1) “All-employee” memos from a leader to her/his employees; (2) Formal case study analyses; (3) Newspaper editorials; (4) Public speeches; (5) Formal plans of action for a student’s actual business or place of employment

• You will submit will be a three (or more, not less) page (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1-inch margins) answer or reflection on the topic(s) you choose. Don’t play me with page length. Anything less than 3 pages loses 20%.

• You should cite no less than 5 legit sources, two of which must be academic articles. Please use APA format for the assignment.

• You must submit each written assignment on iLearn via the Turnitin submission portal — please do not submit via email ***

The five sources need to include two articles from the class disscus. which are "The place of of Nohuman in environmental issures", and "Green Management Matters Regardless by Alfred A. Marcus and Adam R. Fremeth"

Executive summary

Investigate your organization's compliance rate with one specific core measure of your choice and write a 2-3-page (maximum) executive summary analyzing the financial and regulatory impact of organizational compliance with your chosen measure. Include recommendations for improving performance on the measure.
In order to promote safe, caring, patient-centered environments, nurse leaders must both conceptually understand and be proficient at performing a wide variety of leadership skills. Effective nursing leaders develop and maintain awareness of issues that emerge at many levels within and outside of their organizations. In addition to developing self-assessing competencies necessary for their roles, nurse leaders must also acquire organizational and systems leadership skill sets.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
•    Competency 4: Policy, Finance, and Regulations – Understand the scope and role of policy, finance, and regulatory environments in relationship to individual and population outcomes.
o    Compare the compliance rates of a specific measure for different organizations.
o    Identify the financial implications associated with compliance.
o    Explain the importance of compliance in terms of policy, regulation, and finance.
•    Competency 5: Communication – Communicate effectively with all members of the health care team, including interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration for quality outcomes.
o    Write coherently to support a central idea in appropriate APA format, with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics as expected of a nursing professional.
•    Competency 6: Organizational and Systems Management – Apply knowledge of organizational behavior, nursing theory, and systems (micro- and macro-) as appropriate for the scope and role of one's own practice.
o    Identify the people affected by changes to a specific compliance measure.
o    Outline a plan to implement changes to a specific compliance measure.
o    Identify organizational barriers to change.
o    Explain strategies to overcome organizational barriers to change.
•    Competency 9: Professional Role – Incorporate the qualities, skills, behaviors, and knowledge required to function as a patient advocate, practice high-quality care, assess and evaluate patient outcomes, and provide leadership in improving care.
o    Describe changes that would improve compliance of a specific measure.

Assessment Instructions
For this assessment, write an executive summary analyzing the financial and regulatory impact of organizational compliance with a specific core measure of your choice. The summary must include recommendations for improving performance on the measure.
You must be able to explain the financial implications associated with the measure, as well as its importance in terms of policy, regulation, and finance. This is another good opportunity to consult with a key stakeholder within the organization. Talking to someone who works closely with the organization's finances can help you develop a deeper understanding of the financial aspects of compliance. You also need to suggest ways your organization can improve compliance and how you would implement changes and overcome obstacles.
This may seem like an enormous undertaking, but you should approach it as if you were to present this information to your supervisor or manager. Keeping in mind that people in these positions do not have time to read a 10-12-page report, you would typically give them only an executive summary of your analyses and recommendations. That means that you will need to be very clear and very concise with the information you choose to include in the executive summary. Say as much as possible with as few words as possible.
Directions
Select a core measure and investigate your organization's compliance rate with the measure. In your executive summary, address the following:
1.    Compare the compliance rates of your organization with those of other organizations.
2.    Identify the financial implications associated with the measure.
3.    Explain why the measure is important in terms of policy, regulation, and finance.
4.    Describe changes that could be made that would improve compliance with the measure.
5.    Identify the people who would be affected by the changes.
6.    Outline a plan to implement the changes within the organization.
7.    Identify obstacles you would expect to encounter.
8.    Explain your strategies for overcoming obstacles.
Additional Requirements
•    Format: Include a title page and references page. As this is an executive summary, do not use APA style and formatting. To determine the appropriate format, it may be helpful for you to review the documents used in your organization. How do they look? What kind of language is used in memos? These can help guide your development of this executive summary. Certainly, feel free to use bullet points as appropriate.
•    Length: Write a 2-3-page (maximum) summary of your information, not including the title page and references page.
•    References: You must still reference scholarly resources to support your work. Use at least three current scholarly or professional resources.
•    Font: Use 12-point, Times New Roman font.

Anthropology

12 point font, 1250 word count limit. Direct quotes are not allowed, but you still must cite your sources.• When citing a publication, you must include the author’s name(s), publication date, and page number. Websites, magazines, and newspapers are not acceptable sources. All sources used must have a url copy so it can be accessed. One of the three sources must be from Karen B. Strier's fifth edition of Primate Behavior Ecology. You will be graded on your ability to demonstrate your understanding of primate behavioral ecology and to illustrate theoretical concepts using real primatological research. Pay especially careful attention to underlined terms and make sure you discuss/define these terms in detail as part of your answer; but note that simply listing definitions is not enough. You are expected to synthesize information you’ve learned in readings in answering your chosen question to show what you have learned so far about primate behavioral ecology. For the file I uploaded don't worry about lecture or discussion I will add those parts in later.

Business & Finance

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a marketing plan and sales strategy, and a marketing budget. Note: You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment.

For the first six (6) months your company is in business—to give you time to perfect your product and to learn from actual customers—you will start marketing and selling in your own community, a radius of twenty-five (25) miles from where you live.

For most non-alcoholic beverages, marketing (as opposed to the actual product itself) is key to success. Cola drinks, for example, are fairly undifferentiated, as are many energy drinks, juices, bottled water, and the like. Companies producing these types of beverages differentiate themselves and attract market share through marketing and brand awareness—both of which are critical to success.

Section 1: Marketing Plan & Sales Strategy (MS Word or equivalent)

Write the three to five (3-5) page Marketing Plan & Sales Strategy section of your business plan, in which you:

Define your company’s target market.

Analyze the types of consumers who will be drinking your beverage in demographic terms (i.e., age, education level, income, gender, ethnic group, etc.). Support your analysis with actual data on the size of the demographic groups in your local community (nearby zip codes).

Outline the demographic information for your company specified on the worksheet in the course text (p. 107 | Demographic Description). Click here for help accessing a specific page number in your eBook.

Hints: At American FactFinder (http://census.gov), you will find demographic information on potential consumers in your area. If you are selling through other businesses (such as grocery stores), indicate the number of those businesses in your local area. You will find information about such businesses in your local area at County Business Patterns (https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/cbp.html). Check Chapter 2 of Successful Business Plan for more research sources.

Assess your company’s market competition.

Use the factors listed in the course text graphic (p. 123 | Assess the Competition) to assess your company’s market competition.

Defend your strategy to successfully compete against market leaders in your segment.

Hints: For example, in the soft drink market, it is intimidating to try to compete against Coke and Pepsi. Newcomers in mature markets typically must pursue niche markets or even create new market categories, as Red Bull did with energy drinks.

Defend your plan to differentiate yourself from the competition using the information detailed on the worksheet in the text (p. 131 | Market Share Distribution).

Hints: Every business faces competition and the non-alcoholic beverage market is an especially crowded market.

Clarify your company’s message using the information provided on the worksheet in the text (p. 160 | The Five F’s).

Hints: Before you choose your marketing vehicles, you must determine the message you want to convey through those vehicles.

Identify the marketing vehicles you plan to use to build your company’s brand. Justify the key reasons why they will be effective. Provide examples of other non-alcoholic beverage companies that use these tactics effectively.

Hints: If you plan to use online marketing tactics, refer to the worksheet in the text (p.171 | Online Marketing Tactics) to aid your response. Remember that even if you’re selling through grocery stores you need to build your brand and social media is a major part of that in regard to beverages. Some of the marketing tactics that beverage companies use include: sampling in grocery stores, building a following on social media, sponsoring events, exhibiting at trade shows attended by retailers, and so on. You will use a combination of these tactics. For example, if you decide to give out samples in grocery stores, promote your sampling on your social media networks and those of the grocery store.

Hints: If you are planning to distribute through resellers, describe how you plan to reach them, for example, through industry trade shows or by establishing your own sales force. For information on trade shows, visit the Trade Show News Network (http://www.tsnn.com). You can exhibit or network at these shows.

Format your assignment according to these formatting requirements:

Cite the resources you have used to complete the exercise. Note: There is no minimum requirement for the number of resources used in the exercise.

Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

Section 2: Marketing Budget (MS Excel worksheets template)

Section 2 uses the “Business Plan Financials” MS Excel template (see: Course Required Files in Week 1). Use the “Business Plan Financials Guide” (see: Course Required Files in Week 1) to support your development of the Marketing Budget.

Complete the Marketing Budget worksheet for your company.

Hints: The goal of the marketing budget is to help you determine how much it will cost you to reach your market and achieve your sales goals.

Hints: When filling out the “Marketing Budget” worksheet in the Excel spreadsheet:

Begin in the current year and complete a marketing budget for the first year of your business. The information you enter in the marketing budget spreadsheet will flow through to your “Income Statement” in the Business Plan Financials.

Leave the number at zero (0) for any marketing vehicles you do not intend to use.

Remember that all marketing activities involve costs. If social media represents a significant portion of your marketing, assume you will have cost of advertising and that should be reflected on your budget. Even if a social media site charges nothing to use it, you will need to use company resources to manage the site, pay someone to execute your social media marketing campaigns, and will most likely pay for ads on that site.

Do NOT leave the “Marketing Budget” blank, assuming you will not have any marketing costs.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

Recommend effective business strategies based on an analysis of domestic and global operating environments, market dynamics, and internal capabilities.

Analyze competitive positions including foreign market entry and the resulting impact on business strategy.

Use technology and information resources to research issues in strategic management.

Write clearly and concisely about strategic management using proper writing mechanics.

    Case Study Mohammed

Mohammed is the executive director of an organization that provides assistance and resources to Somali refugees and immigrants within his community. His organization currently provides a variety of services, including health care, education services, employment services, and youth services. Lately, because of the fast-growing Somali population, he has decided it would be more efficient to develop more focused organizations that benefit the Somali community.

Mohammed wants to start a new organization that focuses specifically on health care services for the Somali population—an established need in both his cultural community and his city. Although there are other community organizations that focus on health care advocacy for immigrants, none focus specifically on the Somali community.

Mohammed has hired you to organize the fundraising and grant writing efforts for this initiative. For this discussion, write a letter to Mohammed in which you provide ideas for how you plan to gather the necessary resources. Use Chapter 9 in your text as a guide.

Click on the link below to view a slide show to better understand the potential topics and how this topic will transition into a short report.

Click on the link to view the Slide Show: Choosing a Topic for Your Proposal and Short Report

You are preparing to write a research proposal that will lead to a short research report. The topics you can use for this report should come from the textbook that deal with diversity in the workplace and the subsequent issues. This is a proposal that will also feed into the short research report and presentation coming up. Look at this as educating your "office" on some important topic related to the workplace, workers, clients, etc. Your report will be educational while making recommendations for improvement and/or change.

Here are grading criteria for the research proposal.

    1. Type this as a memo and address it to your instructor.

    2. Include headings in the memo:

Overview (topic, definition, and background information),
Issues (business related problems related to topic),
Research (types of sources to support research),
Audience (who needs to know this), and
Call to Action (conclusion and request to move forward).
    3. Be precise in your writing and get to the point. Provide necessary details.

    4. Check your spelling and grammar.

    5. Proposal should not exceed one page.

    6. Topic should be researchable and lead into the short research report where you will be making recommendations for improvement

    Another Activity

While you are doing a proposal for class research projects, see LO 21-3, you do not have a lot of time. Your proposal will be shorter than Figure 21.4, but it should include an introduction, background about the problem, feasibility of finding a solution, method of finding a solution, and a call to action.

    Question 1

    Instructions:

Initial post is due on 11/14by 11:59pm and peer replies are due on 11/16 by 11:59pm.

You will post information about two to three topics you are considering for your research proposal.
Include the definition of your topic, why it is important in business, where you will find additional information, and possible solutions to bring about positive change in an organization in relation to your topic.
Post your information and then discuss two or more postings from your fellow classmates. In responding to your classmates, give them advice on gathering information, possible ways of making improvements, etc.
Note: You must first post your own answers before you can view others' posts.

    Question 2

    Instructions

The research proposal is an overview of the subject you plan on exploring for your short research report.  You can define your subject, discuss your personal experiences related to that subject, list myths and misconceptions, explain what you need to research, discuss the impact on business, look at ways to educate on this topic, etc.

Write your research proposal following the basic memo format.
Write about one topic that is mentioned in the textbook.
Attach your proposal to this drop box.
