Douglass in The Narrative of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave makes clear how slavery distorts the slave's conception of humanity as well as the slave owner's conception of humanity. Oppression results in acts of unimaginable dehumanization. How does Douglass' argument about dehumanization of the slaves help us to read and understand the phenomenon of the rounding up and systematic murder of Jews in Spiegelman's Maus? Please make your comparison and contrasts between the two texts clear. I'm allowed up to 20% quoted material to be in the paper, I would prefer this come from the book. 1/2 page intro, 1/2 page conclusion, the rest can be the argument. Strong thesis preferred.
