Internal Communication

Objective: Identify and apply concepts and theories guiding internal written communications, presentations and listening.   Introduction: Writing and listening skills go hand in hand when communicating. This essay will give you the opportunity to apply prewriting strategies, tips, guidelines and listening skills to internal communications in a business case.  

 

Deliverables: The essay for this lesson is required to be a minimum of 2,500 words that clearly demonstrate your understanding of the activity. Essays should have a clear introduction, thesis statement and conclusion, written in APA format (APAstyle.org). A minimum of three sources must be cited in-text and in the Reference list.   

 

Activity Details:  

Read the following scenario and questions and then use what you have learned about this lesson’s objective to summarize your responses. 

 

•You work for a global company. You are the Director of Marketing. You have a new product for which you need to develop the marketing campaign. Describe in a report to how you will use the three-step writing process in a routine message to the entire global team using two different mediums. ◦A quality answer will address the elements of the three-step writing process. The answer should illustrate how the three-step writing process is applied to a routine message in two different mediums.   

 

•Your product needs to be showcased in front of key stakeholders, which include select customers across the world. Explain in your report how to identify the audience and what it will take to speak/present to their values/needs. What listening skills will you use to address the high- and low-context cultures in your audience? ◦A quality answer will address concepts of identifying the audience and speaking directly to their values/needs. The answer will also include critical listening skills needed specifically for high- and low-context cultures.  

•You are now going to develop a presentation to give to your audience. You will also create a proposal for the VP of Marketing and the CEO on the marketing rollout for the new product. ◦What type of presentation will be best for the audience you identified? How are you applying the three-step writing process to the presentation? What five tips and guidelines do you feel will benefit your presentation? ◦What elements do you need to include in the proposal? How are you applying the three-step writing process to the proposal? What five tips and guidelines do you feel will benefit your proposal? ◦A quality answer will address concepts of applying the three-step writing process to a specific presentation and a proposal. The answer will also include at least five tips, guidelines and best practices for ensuring the messages in these two mediums are meeting the audience’s needs/values.
