Do you think performance appraisals still serve a purpose in management efforts?

Do you think performance appraisals still serve a purpose in management efforts? How often does your organization conduct performance appraisals? Do you think your organization’s appraisals are beneficial to you and the company? How can they be improved?

ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION AND THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS or MORE)

                                                            CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE

Performance appraisal (PA) is the process of measuring employees’ performance. The performance appraisal is one of the known methods used in employee development and career management, which takes place between the employer and employee. The average appraisal is yearly., yet it has been discovered that more frequent informal appraisals, formal appraisals or both (e.g. quarterly, semi-annual, etc.) should be conducted for better career management efforts. All methods should be documented, however informal assessments are not so fully documented as compared to formal assessments, which should be thoroughly documented. An organization for which I formerly worked for conducted performance appraisals on an annual basis. In my opinion, the appraisals were beneficial when they were performed. I don’t think that they were as beneficial as they could have been. The way the performance appraisals could be improved is by being conducted on time and more thoroughly. Without timely feedback from management and supervisors the employees were not sure about what they were doing correctly or incorrectly which left doubt and the lack of confidence in the performance of the overall company.

How did the laws and cases of the Progressive Era affect what happens today?

Labeling Theory would posit that crime is a product of increased legislation more than inherent criminal tendencies. In criminal justice history it might be argued that custom has remained more influential than law.

For this Discussion, select one of the following laws or cases from the Progressive Era that is interesting to you: White Slave Traffic Act, the Sullivan Law, the Drug Laws, the Eugenics Movement, the Red Scare, or Weeks v. United States. Then, consider the impact this law or case might have had on the current U.S. criminal justice system. Explain how this impact may have an influence on your role in the U.S. criminal justice system.

Post by Day 3: How did the laws and cases of the Progressive Era affect what happens today? Provide one example. Using one of the laws or cases provided, explain any parallels of this to current laws or cases. What might be the lasting effects on today’s U.S. criminal justice system? How does having this information as a leader in criminal justice influence your role?

Jones M., & Johnstone, P. (2011). History of Criminal Justice. (5th ed.) New York, NY. Routledge.

  • Chapter      18, “Law Enforcement Professionalism and the Establishment of a      Criminal Justice System” (pp. 303-315)

Explain the current state of the issue in criminal justice that you identified in Week 2.

Investigating issues is an important component of working in the U.S. criminal justice system. For this assignment, you discuss the historical issue in the criminal justice system that you will address in the Final Paper.

As a reminder, you will need to include in your Final Project a minimum of 15 peer-reviewed articles. You should incorporate additional resources into this assignment and continue your research in preparation for completing all components (Weeks 2, 3, 6, 7) of the 10-15 page Final Paper that is due in Week 10.

Note: Review the “Final Project Week 7 Rubric” in the Course Information area for additional information.

The assignment (2–3 pages):

  • Explain      the current state of the issue in criminal justice that you identified in      Week 2.
  • Explain      what the current data looks like.
  • Explain      what the trends are for this issue.

What are the ethical principles and implications raised by legally mandating clients into treatment?

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, be certain to have read all the required resources for this week. The use of mandated, or legally coerced, treatment is widespread. Yet research demonstrating the efficacy of this type of treatment is limited, and mandating mental health treatment is one of the most contested issues in the field of psychology. To justify the continued use of mandated treatment, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers are obligated to demonstrate the effectiveness and limitations of such treatment programs.

You have been called in to consult on cases that may require mandated treatment. After reviewing the PSY699 The ethics of mandated treatment scenarios (Links to an external site.), choose two to discuss in your initial post. Begin your research with the required resources for this week. Using the specific situations presented in each of the scenarios you have chosen, conduct further research to help inform your recommendations for each individual. A minimum of one resource per scenario, beyond those already required for the assignment, must be included in your initial post.

In your post, construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to present your recommendations as to whether or not treatment should be mandated for the individuals in each of the scenarios. As you write your recommendations, be certain to provide insights into the following questions.

  • What are the ethical principles and implications raised by legally mandating clients into treatment?
  • What evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of treatment with and without coercion for this type of situation?
  • What would be the challenges in evaluating the effectiveness of mandated treatment?
  • How might mandated treatment impact your clinical decision making as the mental health professional assigned to these cases?
  • What client factors might limit or augment the potential benefits of treatment if it were mandated?

Integrating concepts from your research and the required readings, offer insights across different content domains as to why you have reached these conclusions. Explain how you used the APA Ethical Code of Conduct to guide your decisions. Evaluate the generalizability of your specific research findings to the situations presented and provide a rationale as to why this research supports your recommendations.

Discuss the dilemma, the lacking ethical principles, and what could have been done to avoid the incident.

– Clinicians and administrators, and ultimately the organizations for which they work, have duties and responsibilities they must adhere to each and every day.  Unfortunately, we hear about breaches of these duties and responsibilities far too frequently.

– Find a current (preferably within the past year ) health care example of a breach in ethical and/or legal duty from either a clinician, manager, employee or facility.  Provide the link of your news source as well.

– Discuss the dilemma, the lacking ethical principles, and what could have been done to avoid the incident. Please note that there is a difference between ethical theories, ethical principles, and virtues-values

Describe the rationale for the methods used in collecting the outcome data.

In 650 words  develop an evaluation plan to be included in your final evidence-based practice project. Provide the following criteria in the evaluation, making sure it is comprehensive and concise:

  1. Describe the rationale for the methods used in collecting the outcome data.
  2. Describe the ways in which the outcome measures evaluate the extent to which the project objectives are achieved.
  3. Describe how the outcomes will be measured and evaluated based on the evidence. Address validity, reliability, and applicability.
  4. Describe strategies to take if outcomes do not provide positive results.
  5. Describe implications for practice and future research.

Create two measurable lesson objectives that are aligned with one Common Core Standard. For each of the objectives, create two differentiated strategies designed to master the objective.

Differentiated instruction is built on a foundation of effective teaching practices. Quality curriculum is one of these defining principles, as what is taught serves as the basis for how it is taught. Quality curriculum has its basis in standards, or descriptions of student outcomes in content areas. (Puckett, 2013, Chap. 5, Introduction)

However, many educators have concerns regarding these new standards for various reasons outlined in Chapter 5 in the textbook including, but not limited to:

  • Lack      of training to implement the new standards
  • A      realistic view of standard mastery of students with special needs
  • Too      much government control over creative freedom of instruction
  • How      these new standards will be implemented on such a large scal

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are meant to provide educators and parents with a consistent and clear understanding of student expectations. While written to address English Language Arts and Mathematics, the CCSS address college and career ready knowledge and skills in preparing students to transition from high school to college.

Assignment Instructions:

First, read Chapter 5 of the course text. Then view the webinar, “Common Core State Standards: Where Does Differentiating Fit”.

Next, read and respond to the following scenario:

Ms. Phillips instructs in a middle school inclusion class with 20 ‘typical’ students, three students who have an IEP for a Specific Learning Disability, one student who has an IEP for “Other Health Impairment” (ADHD) and two students who are identified as ELL.  Her class is beginning with a unit on the American Civil War that will focus on the significance of the Civil War Battle and the reason and significance behind President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

As the unit starts, Ms. Phillips provides her students with a KWL chart to share what they already know about the Civil War

Example of a Student Response to the KWL Chart (Creately, 2011)

After reviewing the student’s KWL charts (see an example above), Ms. Phillips realizes that she should integrate differentiated strategies to provide a more well-rounded and accurate understanding of the topic and to make it more personally relevant.

For this discussion:

  • Create      two measurable lesson objectives that are aligned with one Common Core      Standard. For each of the objectives, create two differentiated strategies      designed to master the objective.
  • Explain      how the strategies you’ve suggested are engaging to diverse learners.
  • Cite      scholarly sources to support how your strategies are examples of      differentiation.

Week 3

This week you will:

  1. Create      an instructional alignment between the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)      and differentiated instruction.
  2. Develop      engaging and motivating differentiated strategies that align with Common      Core State Standards.
  3. Implement      instructional plans to promote opportunities for success in differentiated      learning environments.

Now that you’ve designed the physical layout of your classroom and have a strong idea of how you will create a positive behavior management system, it is time to get instruction started! With the adoption of the Common Core State Standards, schools are holding students to higher standards and requiring more advanced proficiency in graduation requirements. This means that you, the teacher, will need to create engaging and dynamic lesson plans that align with the new standards that also promote opportunities for success in your differentiated learning environment. It is important to point out that the CCSS do not specify how to teach or how to assess; the standards only identify what students should know and be able to do (CCSS, 2014).

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are meant to provide educators and parents with a consistent and clear understanding of student expectations. While written to address English Language Arts and Mathematics, the CCSS address college and career ready knowledge and skills in preparing students to transition from high school to college. One example of providing multiple means of instruction through differentiation is through instructional technology. The following short video from PowerUP What Works (2013) will help to provide some information that will helpful to you.

Assignment

To begin, this is a three-minute video that clearly explains the purpose behind the Common Core State Standards (CCSS):

This video was created by the DC Public School system. As the video explains, one of the purposes of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is to scaffold ideas, starting with a foundation and then gradually becoming more challenging and abstract. Differentiated instruction has a similar conceptual framework as teachers must continually work to identify and implement strategies that work for all students.

For your assignment this week you will create a blog that is written in user-friendly terms and is easily understood by other educators, parents, and community stakeholders regarding the purpose of the Common Core State Standards, the evidence-based foundation for differentiated instruction, and how the two methods align. In addition, you will include resources, references, guides, and materials that will contribute to your reading audiences’ understanding of each topic and how they can be integrated into curriculum material and instructional delivery.

Explain five or more differentiated strategies, tools, or activities that will support teachers’ implementation of the CCSS for mathematics.

What we have learned so far in this course is that students come to us from diverse backgrounds and have their own unique learning needs. We have also learned that the systems of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are grounded in differentiated instructional practices to form the basis of quality curriculum.

As noted in Week Two, you participate in your school’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) as developing experts in implementing differentiated instruction. For this assignment, you will create the content for a blog (not actually creating the blog at this time) that identifies differentiated assessment and teaching strategies. These strategies can be used to assess student mastery of the new Common Core State Standards while providing engaging and rigorous classroom instruction.

For the purpose of this assignment, you will be using a Word document (two to three pages) to create a prospective blog that can be designed online at another time.

Within your blog, you must:

· Describe (in general) the standards for mathematics.

· Describe (in general) the standards for English language arts.

· Summarize the Common Core State Standards initiative including their purpose (i.e., the expectations of the CCSS) and academic impact.

· Discuss how differentiated instruction is an essential strategy for the CCSS.

· Explain five or more differentiated strategies, tools, or activities that will support teachers’ implementation of the CCSS for mathematics.

· Explain five or more differentiated strategies, tools, or activities that will support teachers’ implementation of the CCSS for English language arts.

Use your course text and at least two scholarly articles from the Ashford University Library or Google Scholar to support your research. Your paper will be formatted according to APA guidelines including title and reference pages.
