Identify one product or brand that you think is in the growth stage of the PLC. Describe the product industry and provide support for your position.

For this Shared Practice, consider the impact of global markets, especially for large companies with resources. For example, although the General Motors (GM) Buick brand had a market share of 62.6 percent in 1980, by 2009 it was in the decline stage at less than 20 percent. This was primarily because the market demographic had aged and younger buyers ignored the brand in favor of brands with which they could identify. So, the product life cycle continued while the brand declined. Buick decided to re-position the brand in the United States for baby boomers and to make it the primary brand of GM in China. Today, the Buick brand is the number 1 selling U.S. brand in China, and its brand life cycle has been extended and will likely shift into the growth mode again (Helper & Henderson, 2014).

For this Shared Practice, also think about the discussion of product life cycle in the course text, the media on “Marketing and New Technologies,” and the Kvesic (2008) article, and reflect on products you have personally used.

Post the following:

  • Identify one product or brand that you think is in the growth stage of the PLC. Describe the product industry and provide support for your position.
  • Identify a product or brand that you think is in a mature or decline stage or beyond. Describe the product industry and provide support for your position.
  • Describe the impact of the product or brand’s life cycle on the role of marketing mix variables (product, price, promotion, and place/distribution). In other words, how do these variables change over the product or brand’s life cycle?

AGREE OR DO NOT AGREE

Henry David Thoreau’s “Resistance to Civil Government.”  He claims that it is not just our right as Americans, but we also have to defy unjust laws.  This is a very American idea.  Part of the American identity involves intervening in the face of injustice. I must say I completely agree with this point.  Henry David Thoreau made a huge point that the American government doesn’t show democracy. Thoreau wanted to explain why he believed that “Resistance to Civil Government.”  was sometimes the right way to go in response to government actions. The government does not care about us or our people. They look at us as if we are beneath them. Thoreau wanted the citizens to follow their morals and distance themselves from unfair, injustice crooked governments. Thoreau went to prison. While in prison he was explaining the circumstances of his night in jail.  He explained how it helped build the characteristic spirit of a culture in its beliefs and aspirations. The laws are made to protect and serve us, but the government twists the laws by having too much power. ‘’When the power is once in the hands of the people, a majority are permitted’’. (Thoreau. 1849. Pp 904).  Thoreau chooses to follow his conscience and practice civil resistance. Boundaries should be pushed and tested. We should fight about injustice. ‘’Nor ever through compromise and fear’’. (Hughes. 1949. Pp 1042).  We as Americans should have the free development of our emotions and pick and choose what we want to do without consequences. ‘’I have as much right’’ (Hughes, 1949. Pp 1042). We as the democracy need to step up. Sometimes things cannot take their course without actions. Every day that goes by things seems to never get done. ‘’ Tomorrow is another day. I do not need my freedom when I’m dead’; (Hughes 1949 pp 1043). For example, let’s use president Trump. I have nothing against but his ways, his actions, and his intentions seem wrong. He has power and money. A little too much power to be exact.

What structures in your county or city do you feel should be listed as critical targets?

Terrorists would generally prefer to attack critical targets, several of which exist in nearly any city or county. You, as a lieutenant in your local police agency, have been assigned to your county-wide fusion center. The captain who oversees the unit informs you that your first task is to help identify all critical targets in your city or county. Using your city or county as the area you are reporting on, answer these questions:

  • What structures in your county or city do you feel should be listed as critical targets? Why? What makes them a target?
  • Might local politics come into play when developing this list, especially if someone’s business is (or is not) included? If so, how will you deal with it?
  • What should your fusion center do once your list is compiled?

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length
