This week’s readings focus on the importance of the ‘culture shift’ that needs to take place in our communities in order to begin an asset-building initiative. Using your critical thinking skills, respond to the following questions:

• What do the terms ‘strength message’ and ‘strength-oriented action’ mean?
• What evidence do you see of this concept played out in your local school or organizational setting?
• What about in your community?
• What do you see as the predominant role of adults in your community? Are they more focused on strength or risk and deficits? Do they provide relationships and programs, or just programs?

Include two or three specific actions that you consistently practice, or could immediately incorporate into your daily routine, to support a “strength-oriented action” culture. If you get stuck, you may want to refer to the “Ask Yourself These Questions First” on Tip Sheet #1 located in the required reading for the week.

Write a two- to three-page analysis of your community and the existing programs for youth within this community using the following guidelines:

1. Using your research from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Fact Finder (Links to an external site.), Pew Research Center (Links to an external site.), and the National Center for Education Statistics (Links to an external site.), create an info-graphic picture of your community to support your written analysis. Embed the info-graphic picture into your analysis as a chart illustrating the written analysis. Your info-graphic and analysis should illustrate those statistics that have direct bearing on the 40 Developmental Assets identified by the Search Institute which can include, but are not limited to:

· Population demographics, including ethnicity and special populations

· Economic status

· Housing and household demographics

2. Summarize youth-related issues that seem to be at the forefront of your community. Use specific examples to support your observations (newspaper headlines, community meetings, political platforms, etc.) and cite your text when appropriate.

3. In support of your written analysis, create and embed a table that identifies the resources for young people that already exist in your community. Your table should include:

· The name of the program

· A short description of the program’s mission

· An analysis of how the program engages with the youth they serve (Are they partners with adults?)

· Summarize which of the 40 Developmental Assets the program focuses on or attempts to meet with their program.

Across history, our longest political battle has been fought to win full civil liberties and rights for all citizens, men and women, black and white, native born and immigrant, property owners and renters. This battle has been fought in federal courts as a constitutional matter, as well as the halls of Congress and the streets of American towns and cities. As we know from our studies, the vast majority of Americans were denied the basic right to vote until the 20th century, namely women and most male minorities. The same was true about fair treatment in the marketplace when applying for employment, education, housing, or healthcare. Write an essay about the key political decisions and/or legal cases in US history (primarily in the 20th century), which led to stronger guarantees of fair treatment and “equality under the law.” Be sure to give at least two examples from voting, employment, education, housing, or healthcare, identifying when they occurred, while briefly describing their origins in political battles. According to Crocker and Smallwood, cloud computing represents one of the most significant paradigms shifts in information technology (IT) history, due to an extension of sharing an application-hosting provider that has been around for many years, and was common in highly regulated vertical industries like banks and health care institutions.  The author’s knowledge from their research continues to assert that, the impetus behind cloud computing lies on the idea that it provides economies of scale by spreading costs across many client organizations and pooling computing resources while matching client computing needs to consumption in a flexible, real-time version.

CONCLUSION

The conclusion paragraph of your paper should summarize your main points. Do not add new content in the conclusion.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

• Your bibliography (page listing your resources) should appear at the end of your report. Your sources, including your interviewees, should appear in alphabetical order, last name first.  Information should be as complete and precise as possible.
• Interviews should include the person’s name and title, and the date/time/place of the interview.
• Books should contain the author’s name, the title of the book. The publisher, place and date of publication, and page numbers you used.
• Periodicals (magazines, newspapers, etc.) should cite the author’s name, the name of the article used, the name of the magazine used, the volume number or issue, and the pages used.
• Internet sources should include an author’s or publisher’s name (if known) as well as the complete Web address.

Facts, Conclusions, and Opinions

To clarify the instructions (above), here are some examples of facts, conclusions, and opinions: 

• An example of a fact is: In Utah, murder occurs when a person intentionally or knowingly causes the death of another person.
  • Facts consist of information that cannot be reasonably disputed.  
• An example of a conclusion is: O.J. Simpson committed (or didn’t commit) the crime of murder.
  • Conclusions are judgments made after analyzing the facts.
• An example of an opinion is: We should pass laws aimed at reducing gun ownership.
  • This statement is not verifiable through the scientific method of research.
