DISABILITY CULTURE PLUNGE

DISABILITY CULTURE PLUNGE

20 points

Overview:

A culture plunge can be defined as exposure to a culture that is different from our own and, in this class specifically, the culture of disability. For some of you, you may already identify as being familiar with disability culture. If so, you will need to explore an arena of disability culture that you are not as familiar with. For many of you though, this may be your first time interacting or being involved with the disability community. Either way, we are very excited to read about your experiences! It is normal for you to feel nervous, intimidated, or even fearful about this assignment, but we hope that this experience proves to be valuable and memorable and that the impact will transcend beyond your time at SDSU.

You are required to engage with individuals who identify as being a part of the Disability Community. You are expected to be respectful and thoughtful with the different organizations and people you come across.

This is not an opportunity for you to be inspired by an individual’s ability to do “day-to-day” tasks. It is an opportunity for you to discover how people with disabilities must adapt their lives in order to integrate into their communities. You will be expected to discover what actually “disables” them and what provides them with access. You will discover or enhance your understanding of human connectedness.

Although you may be serving your community at your disability culture plunge event, this is not for the purpose of community service credit. The purpose is to immerse yourself into a culture with which you were previously unfamiliar and to learn from the people of that culture.

As this is a college level course, the expectation is for you to take the ideas we present in class and see how those concepts apply to people who live this experience daily.

Important criteria for culture plunges as described in the course syllabus are:

● The majority or a large proportion of people there identify as someone who is disabled

● This must be a type of experience you’ve never had before

● The plunge takes place after this course begins (credit cannot be given for past experiences)

● You must be focused on qualitative interactions and not on taking notes

● Although the event may be a charity-based event, you are not there out of charity, but out of intrigue and interest in getting to know people with disabilities as equals

● The plunge lasts at least one hour

Ideas for Valuable Culture Plunge Opportunities

You can reference Blackboard for some DCP examples. You are also encouraged to find local organizations in the community that are not listed.

– Disability and LGBTQIA + organizations

– Disability and the farming community

– Homeless population and the variety of disabilities represented

– Adults with developmental disabilities

– Mental Illness and different ethnic groups

– Deaf and hard-of-hearing community

– Adaptive sports opportunities

How would you gather information about the job context and environment?

You are the HR manager for a commercial airline. You have been assigned to develop a realistic job preview for flight attendants. Your objective is to give a balanced picture of the job so that applicants will better understand what they will be asked to do. Job duties, schedules, and other facets of the job should all be well understood early in the recruiting process to avoid poor P/E fit later on.

  1. How would you gather information about the job context and environment? Explain what sources you would use and why.
  2. How could you use technology to show the positive and negative aspects of the job

Your discussion is to be submitted in 12-point Times New Roman font using APA format.  You must have a minimum of two sources to support your answer.

Students are required to post their primary response (200 word minimum) by Wednesday midnight. Students will respond to at least 2 other postings (150 words minimum each) by Sunday midnight.

Response 1 (Archana Mandela)

A best way to gather information about the job context and environment is by interviewing current airline attendants and knowing answers to how they perform their current job. Know about how many hours they are required to work, know about the extent of requirements for that position and the extent of training that is needed and if any certifications are necessary. Pre-employment screening like a basic electronic assessment screening can be used to screen candidates and evaluate them from a pool of resumes received for particular position (Mathis et al, 2017).  Getting permission from a potential candidate to contact previous employers that the applicant worked previously to validate the genuinity of his work experience can be another way to gather information. An application time limit also is useful for how long an application form is kept active by a company, letting candidates to apply duly and in a timely manner.

Electronic assessment screening is a way to show of how technology is used in screening employees for a particular job position (Wright, 2006). These assessments are used to evaluate and track applications of hundreds of resumes submitted for one or more jobs. Responding to these applications would be a difficult and technology here comes handy in replying each and every one and sort out potential resumes. This speed up the screening process. Another way of using technology is by obtaining information for a candidate from his/her social networking media. The role of LinkedIn is a best example of how technology has made hiring or finding a best candidate for the position. This made not only the candidates apply for a particular job, but also the company in reaching to a potential candidate based on his info on his profile and his endorsements that he/she received from his past work experiences.

Conclusion: Since a potential candidate is unaware of the job responsibilities, it is the company’s responsibility to have a realistic job preview of the job. A company needs to invest time and money in creating an effective recruiting method to fill its jobs. Though gathering information from candidate’s social networking profiles is a practice in today’s recruiting methodology, it can have negative consequences for both companies and applicants. The legality and appropriateness of this method of screening is highly questionable because many organizations access this information without any consistency or regarding to the job demand (Mathis et al, 2017). There is a chance to lead company into a religious or sexual orientation discrimination against the applicant. This data should only be used as a basic employee record rather than as a decision making factor in the hiring process.

Response 2 (Praveen jetty)

Job evaluation information can be accumulated in a spread of procedures. One hobby is who is to conduct the approach evaluation. Most often, a member of the HR workforce coordinates this effort. Depending on which of the strategies stated next is used, others who regularly participate are managers, supervisors, and employees doing the jobs. For extra complex analyses, commercial engineers also can furthermore conduct time and movement research.

Another interest is the method for use. Common techniques are observations, interviews, questionnaires, and specialized strategies of evaluation. Combinations of these methods often are used, relying at the state of affairs and the agency. Each of these strategies is referred to in some element next.

When the statement method is used, a manager, activity analyst, or commercial engineer observes the individual appearing the technique and takes notes to give an explanation for the obligations and obligations executed. Observation can be non-prevent or based totally on intermittent sampling.

The interview method of accumulating facts requires that a supervisor or HR professional visit every assignment internet site online and speak with the personnel appearing every task. A standardized interview form is used most customarily to report the information. Frequently, every the employee and the worker’s manager want to be interviewed to obtain a complete statistics of the challenge.

Flight attendants are hired to carry out safety abilities on an aircraft further to customer service. It is a feature frequently portrayed as being quite glamorous. However, there are though specialists and cons to it similar to any enterprise. As a dream task for lots, those are the pinnacle three positives and negatives about walking as a flight attendant.

Positives:

·         Flight Attendant Travel Benefits

·         Flexibility

·         Meeting New People

Negatives:

·         Lower Pay

·         Reserve Life

·         Away from Home

Want Someone To Make Few Changes In My Solution

Develop a 7-page process improvement plan for a provided scenario or a business and process of your choice, using data to support your recommendations.

Introduction

This portfolio work project, a process improvement plan, will help you demonstrate competencies in process documentation, process analysis, and process improvement.

Scenario

For this assessment, choose either Option 1 or Option 2. You do not need to do both. You will apply one of these scenarios in the Requirements below. Both options will be graded using the same scoring guide.

Option 1

Wild Dog Coffee Company, a locally owned company with a single coffee shop location, serves a wide selection of espresso products, small breakfast and lunch menu items, and a limited evening menu. The company is planning to expand the business by adding an additional location. While different menu items may be tested at the new location, the espresso beverage preparation process will remain exactly the same. The company wants to ensure that the espresso beverage preparation process is documented and refined before the move.

Option 2

Select a business and process of your choosing. Note: It is recommended that you use the same business for each assessment in this course. Before choosing a company, read all three of the assessments thoroughly to ensure the following:

The company fits the assessment requirements and you have access to the information needed to complete the assessment.

The business information is disclosed in the assessment for faculty’s reference.

You can distribute the business data without disclosing confidential information.

Your Role

Option 1

You are one of three owners of Wild Dog Coffee Company. Your background is primarily in operations. Your business partners’ backgrounds are in marketing and sales. While they are working on the external aspects of the business that will bring customers in, you are focused on making the internal customer-facing processes as efficient as possible. You are preparing an analysis and recommendations that will help manage a core process improvement for the successful opening of a second location.

Option 2

Your boss, a director, has tasked you with a process improvement project. She is relying on you to prepare an analysis and recommendations that can be presented to the executive team of the company.

Requirements

Include the following in your process improvement plan:

Assess the steps for a selected process.

Develop a flowchart showing the process’ steps. You may include as many steps as are relevant for your selected scenario.

If using Wild Dog Coffee Company, show the steps for preparing an espresso beverage (for example, latté, cappuccino); there are two steps that must be included: (1) order is submitted and (2) beverage is handed to the customer. Hint: You may want to visit a local coffee shop to observe the beverage preparation process.

Prepare a procedure documenting the selected process. At a minimum, the procedure must document the following for your selected process:

Metrics. Identify at least two metrics that will be useful in determining how well the new process is performing. Be sure to identify the target value of the metric and how you will measure it.

For Wild Dog Coffee Company, it could be how well the beverage preparation process is performing. A third metric is already identified for you: order delivery time. (This is the time between when the order is submitted and the time the beverage is handed to the customer.)

Procedure. This section describes each step of the process.

For Wild Dog Coffee Company, your procedure should be titled, “Espresso Beverage Preparation Process.” Be sure to include order submittal and handing the beverage to the customer as part of the procedure.

Purpose (of the procedure). This section describes what the procedure is intended to do.

Analyze data for process changes for a selected process. Respond to the following questions:

Is the process centered? Provide the results of your calculations and the rationale for your decision by thinking about the process capability.

Is the process capable at 3-sigma? Provide the results of your calculations and the rationale for your decision by thinking about the process capability index.

Is the process in statistical control? Provide the appropriate numbers and the rationale for your decision using a control chart for individuals.

For Wild Dog Coffee Company, analyze the Beverage Service Times [XLSX] data. This data is for 50 beverage preparation events and was collected using their order processing system. Each individual order gets a time-stamp when it is placed and again when the beverage is handed to the customer. The senior barista thinks the beverage delivery times should range between 2 and 3 minutes. The known process standard deviation, which has been calculated on an on-going basis, is 0.5903 minutes.

Analyze the cause and effect of process variances.

Brainstorm possible sources of variation to create a cause-and-effect diagram to help analyze potential sources of variation in the espresso beverage preparation process at Wild Dog Coffee Company or for your selected business’ process. Your diagram must include at least four of the “6 Ms” (that is, management, manpower, method, measurement, machine, materials).

Recommend quality and customer service improvements for a selected process.

Detail the results of your analysis for Wild Dog Coffee Company or your selected business’ process to substantiate your recommendations.

Deliverable Format

Requirements:

The process improvement plan is to be a minimum of 7 pages, not including the title, reference, and appendix pages.

Use a process improvement plan template of your choice.

Related company standards:

The process improvement plan is a professional document and should therefore follow the corresponding MBA Academic and Professional Document Guidelines (available in the MBA Program Resources), including single-spaced paragraphs.

In addition to the title and reference pages, include the following in the appendix:

Flowchart.

Procedure.

Detailed results of order delivery time analysis.

Cause-and-effect diagram.

Use American Society for Quality (ASQ) data analysis tools and 2–3 additional scholarly or academic sources where applicable.

Use APA formatting for citations and references.

Comparison the physical assessment of a child to that of an adult

DQ2   (COMMENT 1). REFERENCES CITATION NO PLAGIO 150 WORDS

Comparison the physical assessment of a child to that of an adult

(focus should be on what you learned on completing childrens health assessments)

Similarities: Past medical history, current medications, chief complaint, signs and symptoms (OLDCARTS), assessment of systems (neuro, HEENT, respiratory, cardiac, GI, GU, integumentary, musculoskeletal, pain, etc).

Differences: Pain scales are very different, as adults generally use a 0-10 pain scale but children will benefit from a FACES scale or looking at behavioral or physical indicators of pain: grimacing, inconsolability, elevated heart rate, guarding (Andersen et al., 2019).

For an accurate health history, parents will need to be included in the process; without surprise, generally this history will be much shorter than an adult history, unless the child was sickly. Parents may also need to be involved for supplemental information; in our simulation, the child could tell me the cough medicine was a certain color but it was his caregiver that told me what the actual medication was.

Explanation of how the nurse would offer instruction (to children) during the assessment

Children might not respond to the nurse instructing them during the assessment so a doll to puppet to show them what to expect might be helpful (Klossner & Hatfield, 2010). For example, listening to a doll with a stethoscope allows the child to see the stethoscope in use, where it will be touching on their body, and what the nurse will ask them to do while they listen; it might be helpful to let the child touch the stethoscope and listen to the nurse’s chest. With children, some instruction might have to come from the parents or parts of the assessment completed in the arms of the parents so the child feels secure.

Adaption of communication for children of different ages

Infants are easy, nurses will communicate mostly with the parent aside from some baby talk and smiling at the infant. With young children, communication should always be done at eye level, whether that is with the child on the exam table or the nurse sitting at the same level as the child, communication should be slow, clear, calm, and in terms that a child would understand (Klossner & Hatfield, 2010). As children get older, the nurse needs to explain exactly what they will be doing in the assessment, when they are doing it, what to expect and, allowing for questions and answers.

Strategies to encourage children during the assessment

As previously mentioned, a strategy to encourage children during an assessment would include a doll or via puppet might be helpful when communicating with a young child. Always allow children to ask questions and not rush them, they might ask “why” or “what” and require frequent answers and support (Klossner & Hatfield, 2010). Nielson and Reeves make recommendations for nursing care to include, “role-play, simulation, and drama” (2019). Role play would allow the child to wear the stethoscope and listen to the nurse’s or parent’s lungs; simulation would allow the child to see the assessment on the doll (or parent) first; and drama would be puppetry, having a puppet do the assessment or the teaching to the child.

DQ2.  (COMMENT 2)   NO PLAGIO CITATION REFERENCES AND 150 WORDS

There are significant physical and developmental differences between children and adults. Ideally, a physical assessment begins with subjective and objective data where observations and asking of questions are done in the adult population to fulfill the assessment part but in pediatric population, the care giver or parent is the historian in extraction of the required information. This applies to the toddlers and some preschoolers who are still afraid of strangers.

In pediatrics, a nurse could have different patients of entirely different ages. As a nurse this means different reasoning strategies to convince them to take medications, different physical skills based on motor development, different coping abilities to painful or traumatic procedures, different cognitive abilities, different lab values and vital signs normal ranges and so on. This is the most challenging part of dealing with pediatrics – such a wide variety in developmental stages. When dealing with the adult population, majority of them fall within very consistently expected cognitive, physical, emotional and clinical data ranges.

When approaching the pediatrics for explanation about a procedure that is to be done, then a nurse must have caution and use character play to convince them and make them understand. Pictures and diagrams come in handy in getting them to understand. One must take time to win their trust for them to accept and listen to you. This is like learning a different language all together. When discussing a procedure or diagnosis with an adult patient, the nurse uses logical explanations in helping to understand what they expect. This is where the family and relatives come in handy to help the patient understand because they are in distress and there learning capabilities are low.

Dealing with both populations have its own pros and cons, there are tough moments where a nurse caring for adults may encounter temper tantrums, teenage mood swing, uncooperative adult patients and even abusive too and children ever crying until it becomes hard to handle them.

Adults would always have more complicated medical histories unlike children. Quite several ailments may have interconnectedness hence need for a thorough history taking. This comes with histories of allergies and coming with a cocktail of different kinds of medications unlike pediatrics who have fewer or even none. Pediatrics while on care would always crash very easily because they have less reserves and can compensate normal vitals for extended periods before a sudden decline.

Pediatrics won’t talk and this then calls for thorough and keen assessment skills and reliance on intuition. Children would always code starting with respiratory arrest unlike adults who in most cases start with cardiac arrest. Its easier discussing living will and medical decisions with an adult patient unlike in pediatrics where you discuss with the parents who are legally responsible. This can cause ethical dilemmas for nurses at times if a child disagrees with the treatment the guardian consents to.

Papaya Partners is a distributor of papayas. They purchase papayas from individual growers and package them in 10-pound cartons for delivery to their various customers, generally supermarkets. Last month, they budgeted to sell $500,000 worth of cartons at a price of $25 each. Actual sales met a budget of $500,000 at $25 per carton.

Management has received cost information based on actual performance and needs to understand the drivers of the overall variance from the budget. They have asked you, as an analyst in their management accounting department, to calculate and explain the variances. The following data has been provided:

Specifically, management needs to know the:

· Standard cost per unit (carton)

· Actual cost per unit

· Direct materials price variances

· Direct materials usage variances

· Direct labor rate variance

· Direct labor efficiency variance

In addition, they would like to understand how the variances are calculated and what caused them. They would also like a recommendation on what might be done to improve the variances.

For this assignment, compute all required amounts and explain how the computations were performed. Describe whom you would work with to determine the causes of the variances and hypothesize on what caused the variances. Based on your analysis, recommend actions that management could take to improve the variances.

Superior papers will:

· Perform all calculations correctly.

· Articulate how the calculations were performed.

· Assess the variances computed and evaluate the operational results (i.e., is performance better or worse than budgeted?).

· Explain with whom you would work to identify the root causes of the variances.

· Propose well-thought-out causes for each variance.

· Conclude on which variances require management’s attention and recommend courses of action.

Be sure to use APA formatting in your paper.  Purdue University’s Online Writing LAB (OWL) is a free website that provides excellent information and resources for understanding and using the APA format and style. The OWL website can be accessed here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

What would be a situation in your personal or professional life in which you use or could use marginal analysis to make a decision?

What would be a situation in your personal or professional life in which you use or could use marginal analysis to make a decision? How do you determine the marginal benefit and marginal cost of the decision? You should illustrate your answer with a numerical example. Why do economists believe that managers should use marginal analysis to make optimal business decisions?

Was the environment different than you expected? What were you expecting?

  • 4 pages, typewritten (Times New Roman, 12 point), double-spaced, with margins no larger than 1 inch.
  • The paper is to be written in essay form. No lists of any kind, please.
  • The first paragraph should be an introduction. In it you should briefly describe the most

important ideas of your paper (tell us what you are going to say).

  • In the body of your paper discuss the following (say what you have to say):
  • Describe the concert-going experience itself:

Possible ideas:

What was the environment like (the concert hall, the people, the stage, the musicians, etc.)

Was the environment different than you expected? What were you expecting? This should

only be a paragraph or two—don’t pad the paper with too much background!

You should then discuss the music:

Pick some pieces that you particularly liked and describe it using the terms we discuss in class:

rhythm, texture, and timbre. Be as specific as possible. The goal is for you to apply your

knowledge of these terms to the piece that you choose as your topic, and to show me as

clearly as possible that you understand these terms, and that you are able to apply them

to a piece.

YOU MUST GIVE ME THE NAMES OF THE PIECES SO THAT I CAN EVALUATE WHAT

YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT.  YOU MUST GET THE NAMES OF THE PERFORMERS, AND WHAT INSTRUMENTS THEY PLAYED OR IF THEY WERE SINGING.

Review the terms in your text, and use related terms as well (homophony, polyphony,

monophony, rhythmic terms, etc.). Discuss the instrumentation of the piece as a whole, and

describe how various timbres were used in the composition. Also, discuss the dynamics .

Explain why you liked the piece. Again, be specific, and use the musical terms that you have

learned. Your last paragraph should be a conclusion:

You should discuss the people.

Please note interactions 1) among the musicians, 2) among the audience 3) between audience

and performers. How to the audience or musicians talk about the music and/or event?

Summarize your most important points and conclude the paper (tell us what you said).

Attach the ticket stub (preferably) the program to the concert paper, or a phone picture of the

event.
