Create a PowerPoint presentation or a website with this information.

In order for you to be an informed voter, you must be familiar with the candidates who you are going to vote for, and the issues that will appear on the ballot. This requires a little bit of research. For this project you’ll be researching and preparing a presentation about your local representative in Congress.

Follow these steps:

  • Choose a senator from your state (Texas), or your district’s (District 9 or 22) representative to the House of Representatives. Remember, we are examining the national level Congress, not your state representatives.
  • Research and find information about this individual. You’ll want information about his/her biographical background, level of education, previous career, other political offices held, political party, voting record, stance of major issues, Congressional committees he/she is part of, etc.
  • Create a PowerPoint presentation or a website with this information. Be sure to include graphics and color to make the presentation visually appealing as well as informative.

Research Proposal

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review the Example Research Proposal provided in the course materials. Note that all instructor feedback from your previous activities should be applied in preparing your proposal.

Your Research Proposal is a six- to seven-page plan for a new study on your research topic. Incorporate at least four scholarly/peer-reviewed journal articles in addition to the course text to support your proposed study.

Include the following sections and content in your paper:

  • Introduction – Introduce the research topic, explain why it is important, and present your research question and/or hypothesis.
  • Literature Review – Summarize the current state of knowledge on your topic by citing the methods and findings of at least two previous research studies. State whether your proposed study is a replication of a previous study or a new approach using methods that have not been used before.
  • Methods
    • Design – Indicate whether your proposed study is qualitative or quantitative in approach. Select one of the research designs you have studied in the course, and indicate whether it is experimental or non-experimental. Evaluate why this design is appropriate for your research topic. Cite the textbook and one other source on research methodology to support your choice.
    • Participants – Identify the sampling strategy you would use to recruit participants for your study. Estimate the number of participants you would need and explain why your sampling method is appropriate for your research approach.
    • Procedure/Measures – Apply the scientific method by describing the steps you would use in carrying out your study. Indicate whether you will use any kind of test, questionnaire, or measurement instrument. Cite the source of any instruments to be used.
    • Data Analysis – Describe the statistical techniques (if quantitative) or the analysis procedure (if qualitative) you plan to use to analyze the data. Cite at least one source on the chosen analysis technique.
    • Ethical Issues – Analyze the impact of ethical concerns on your proposed study, such as confidentiality, deception, informed consent, potential harm to participants, conflict of interest, IRB approval, etc. Explain how you would address these concerns.

Physician Aid-In-Dying Case Study

If you are a BS in Health Care Administration student, this assignment will be your portfolio assignment for HLT-305.

Physician Aid-in-Dying is a practice that is legal in a number of states within the United States due to the passing of the Death With Dignity Act. Additional reading is present on this legislation in the topic readings. Please make sure to research this topic prior to beginning this assignment, as you will need to apply this research to your paper.

Case Study: Physician Aid-in-Dying in Portland, Oregon
A 35-year-old male named Zachary Davis has lived in and been a legal resident of Portland for almost 20 years. In the fall of 2018 he began having terrible headaches. After months of suffering with these, Zachary made the decision to see his primary care provider. His provider decided that scans should be done to rule out anything serious before beginning treatment for what he thought was probably migraine headaches. Zachary had the routine scans and at 5:00 p.m. he received a call from his doctor with the results. Zachary was diagnosed with advanced stage glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer, one of the deadliest brain tumors with a very low survival rate. Zachary immediately began aggressive treatment. After 12 weeks of treatment, they saw no improvement in his condition. At that time, his doctors sat down with him to discuss options. He was given approximately 6 months to live, giving him the dreaded diagnosis of being terminally ill. They discussed hospice care and other end-of-life options. After surveying the options, Zachary expressed the wish to participate in Physician Aid-In-Dying.

Considering all aspects of the Death With Dignity legislation that has been passed into law in Oregon, consider the following in a paper of 1,000-1,250 words:

  1. Does Zachary meet the requirements to take part in this practice? Why? Be detailed and specific in your evaluation of this practice.
  2. Considering Death With Dignity legislation, is mental health a component that is evaluated and considered? Do you support this aspect of the legislation?
  3. As we near end of life it is often that a surrogate is put in place for our medical decisions. How does this work with the practice of Physician Aid-in-dying?
  4. What do you anticipate seeing in the future with this controversial practice in health care?

Budget, Budget Narrative, & Sustainability Plan

The budget is a crucial piece in the logical progression of developing your proposal. Look back at the other key components—needs statement, objectives, goals, methodology, and evaluation—and consider how these pieces must be represented in and supported by the budget. One can see why a funding reviewer might begin by looking at a budget. It should fully, clearly, and succinctly depict the story of the project. The budget narrative expands upon the line items of a budget, offering further explanation of costs and needs, as appropriate.

A sustainability plan explains to funders how you will continue a project after funding has been exhausted. Not only does this plan demonstrate a proactive stance toward your project, but it also provides a funder assurance that its interests will be served beyond the project timeframe.

In preparation for this Discussion, consider the components of your project that you have determined to this point. Review this module’s Learning Resources that focus on the budget, budget narrative, and sustainability plan. Note: You may select one of the two budget formats for your Discussion post: the budget example on pp. 162–163 or use the Sample Budget Worksheet on p. 328 as a guide to develop your budget.

By Day 3 of Week 5

Post the following to the Discussion board:

  • Your Budget, Budget Narrative, and Sustainability Plan.      Include a brief description of your project to provide context to your      colleagues.

Note: To be respectful of your peers in providing feedback that will be useful to their finalizing their Budget, Budget Justification/Narrative, & Sustainability Plan for Assignment 4, you are encouraged to post your responses to your colleagues by Day 5.

Be sure to support your analysis and conclusions with citations and references in APA format from the Learning Resources and your own research.
