Research your topic, evaluate selected sources, and organize your sources using the Source Organization worksheet template.

Research your topic, evaluate selected sources, and organize your sources using the Source Organization worksheet template.

During Week 2, you chose a career interest topic and created your project plan. This week’s assignment is to conduct research to locate, identify and carefully vet at least three (3) credible sources. Reviewing the directions for the Week 7 assignment now will be helpful before you begin to research.

In the Week 3 lesson, you read about Location and Access, the third step of the Big 6 research model. Essentially, this step helps you find and select the most relevant sources that support your project topic. Instead of randomly choosing a source that could work, select the best possible source from those available using the evaluation process presented in the Weeks 2 and 3 lessons. You will share your scholarly sources and write a robust summary as you complete the Source Organization Worksheet template.

Requirements for the Source Organization worksheet include: ·

· Download the template here: Source Organization Worksheet Template (in Word) or Source Organization Worksheet Template (in Excel)

· One (1) source must be scholarly, peer-reviewed and from the Trefrey library

· Other sources must be credible and appropriate for college research

· Robust source summaries must include an explanation of the contents of the source and the relevance of the source to your project’s topic.

· In the document complete Part I, explain the process of locating your sources and Part II the source information.

· Once the worksheet is complete, copy and paste it into the text box (not as an attachment). All sections of the template must be completed.

Complete the attached Logic Model worksheet and submit it with your   Executive Summary.

Part 2- Draft Executive Summary

Write a 250-500-word draft executive summary of your proposed   program. The executive summary tells the story in a very succinct way   of why your grant should be the one funded. Include the information   gathered from your logic model. Explain how the grant will improve   organizational outcomes that align with organizational needs. Grant   reviewers have hundreds of applications to review, so your executive   summary cannot be longer than two pages.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment,   solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources   should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be   found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to   beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for   successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Please refer   to the directions in the Student Success Center.

This Benchmark assesses competency 1.2: Apply creative       management practices to improve organizational outcomes aligned       with organizational needs, and competency 4.5: Write a grant       proposal for a specific agency need.

Skills for Employability in Human Services

Human services professionals interact with a wide variety of clients, including children and families, the elderly, the homeless, immigrants, people with addictions, people with criminal backgrounds, people with disabilities, people with mental illnesses, and veterans (Moffat, 2011). Working with such a diverse client population requires specialized skills, including having an understanding of theories and concepts that frame human services, and knowledge of how people function in their social environment, listening skills, empathy, self knowledge, and a sincere appreciation for cultural diversity.

For this Discussion, you put yourself in the role of a human services professional and think about qualities and skills you bring to the work. You also assess your skills and identify professional development opportunities.

To Prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the article, “Happy Doing Good? How Workers’ Career Orientations and Job Satisfaction Relate in Grassroots Human Services.”
  • Review the report, “Helping Those in Need: Human Service Workers.” Pay close attention to the job scope, populations served, common jobs, the ups and downs, and credentialing of the field.
  • Review the web resource, “What is Human Services?” Pay close attention to the skills required of a human services professional.
  • Review the web resource, “A Human Service Worker (A Generic Job Description).”
  • Review the web resource, “Occupational Outlook Handbook, 20122013 Edition, Social and Human Service Assistants.” Pay close attention to the current job outlook for human services professionals, including trends and themes in the field.
  • Review the media, “Employability in Human Services.”
  • Think about the professional skills that are most important for employability in the human services field.
  • Consider your own strengths and limitations related to these skills.
  • Use the Internet to find professional development opportunities to address your limitations.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post  a description of two professional skills that you think are most important to help an individual with a BS in human services become employable in the human services field and explain why. Explain any of the skills in which you are currently proficient (i.e., those skills in which you excel). Then, explain any of your skills that might require additional professional development (i.e., those skills in which you need improvement), and explain specific types of professional development opportunities that are available to enhance your skills (for example, courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences).

Discussion: First Impressions

Confirmation bias is an interesting phenomenon; it explains people’s misplaced confidence when evaluating someone’s character based on first impressions. If people allow their first impressions to be challenged, there is a chance that subsequent information will compel a revision. However, not everyone is willing to change their first impressions; somehow, their belief in being a good judge of character is threatened if their impression changes.

In this case, there is a resistance to new information that may challenge what they already believe is true. They will likely focus only on details that confirm their first impression while ignoring those that do not. This is why so many insist that, based on “sound” first impressions, they are excellent judges of character. Clearly, this is not necessarily so.

For this Discussion, you will consider a personal experience regarding first impressions and apply social psychology theory to explore how impressions form quickly and persist.

To Prepare
  • Review the Learning Resources for this week and consider how downward comparisons and idealized images of physical attractiveness impact the developing self-concept.
  • Also, consider whether this impact would be different across race and ethnicity.
By Day 4

Post a description of a time when you were certain your first impression of someone you had just met was accurate, only to discover subsequently that you were mistaken. Describe how social psychology theory explains this phenomenon.

Assignment: Attribution Errors

Wherever you go, you will be observing human behavior, and it is difficult not to make a judgment about people after observing how they behave. You might consider three people on a crowded bus to be kind if you see them give up their seats so a mother can sit down with her two young children. You might consider a grocery store employee to be rude if you asked him where to find the milk and he rolled his eyes and sighed heavily before directing you to its location. These two judgments would be logical—kind in the first case and rude in the second—because that is the type of people they appeared to be.

However, social psychologists are more concerned with the external social conditions that influence behavior. Maybe only one of the people on the bus acted kindly and the other two gave up their seats because they did not want to be perceived as unkind by others on the bus. Perhaps the grocery store employee is usually kind, but he behaved rudely because he has been told to work an extra shift at the last minute and it means he will likely miss a friend’s birthday party. If you attribute someone’s behavior to her or his personality, your judgment may underestimate the social conditions that influenced the behavior. When explaining the causes of someone’s behavior, underestimating or discounting the social situation results in what social psychologists call an attribution error.

For your assignment this week, you will look at a scenario and consider how the cause of a person’s behavior may be explained better by situational influences than one’s personality or internal disposition.

To Prepare
  • Review the Learning Resources for this week and consider how the causes of a person’s behavior may be explained by situational factors.
  • Consider the following scenario for this Assignment:                                                                                              Imagine that you have been summoned for jury duty in the United States. If you are selected to be on the jury,     you will be hearing a rape case where a 23-year-old female alleges sexual assault. In order to select the jury (a     process known by the Latin term voir dire), both the prosecutor and defense attorney question the jury pool to     identify and dismiss for cause people who have strong opinions about the subject matter, who already know     about the case, or who may be biased for or against either party to the trial. Attorneys may also dismiss     members of the jury pool who they think will not be favorable to their case. These types of dismissals are called     peremptory challengesand the attorneys have a limited number of them.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  During the process of jury selection, you notice the prosecutors are using their limited peremptory challenges to     dismiss most of the young women from the jury pool. You find this peculiar, given that young women would seem     to be most favorable to the prosecution’s case.
Assignment:

Submit 1–2 pages, not including title page and reference page:

  • Informed by social psychology theory, explain why the prosecutor was reluctant to seat young women on the jury. Please provide a detailed explanation for this seemingly odd behavior.

In addition to the Learning Resources, search the Walden Library and/or Internet for peer-reviewed articles to support your Assignment. Use proper APA format and citations, including those in the Learning Resources.
