The truth is I didn’t grow up wanting to pursue Chemical and Biological Engineering. I was not groomed into liking chemistry, instead the attraction came from a passion within me. As I got older all I knew was that I wanted to pursue a career in science; which is an unimaginably broad topic— the struggle was indeed real.
I wasn’t certain on the kind of career I wanted to pursue until my junior year of high school. Prior to this year I had already developed a liking for the natural sciences. I had some exposure to the subjects back in Macedonia. However, one does not develop a lifelong draw to science from seventh grade physics, chemistry, not even fifth grade biology. The more chemistry and biology classes I took the more I enjoyed the subject. Many documentaries, endless hours of research, and extensive conversations with my teacher later I knew that I wanted to be a Process Engineer.
I was further reassured that this wasn’t just a phase from the notably felt absence of chemistry in my senior year, and the gratitude of the available biology class. Since I had already taken the highest chemistry class offered by my school, I couldn’t further progress in that aspect of my education. However, I was determined to learn and did not let a small inconvenience get in the way of my career. So I decided to go over the AP Chemistry curriculum on Khan Academy, which I find time regularly to do.
Aside from the rigorous curriculum offered at Princeton University, the certificate programs will exceedingly prepare me for my career. More specifically, the Engineering and Management Systems Certificate would vastly expand my knowledge and analytical skills. The course requirement for my major and the program are coherent and would not only assist me in understanding the material but also expand my ability to sufficiently complete assignments. Most importantly, the experience I will gain from both programs will be of incredible use for my senior thesis and research completed throughout my years at Princeton.
