  1. Compare long-term instruments and short-term risks, in terms of the various types of risk to which investors are exposed. Explain your answers.
  2. What methods can be used by the FED to influence interest rates? Are these methods effective? Use examples where appropriate.

Teaching Effective Supervisor Skills

Instructions: This project requires you to develop a PowerPoint slide presentation for use as a training tool with brand new supervisors!  You are in charge of presenting them on information on how to transition from a worker to a supervisor. There is great satisfaction in taking a brand new employee, helping them to develop their Management, Coaching and Leadership skills, and then watching them excel!  With this in mind, your presentation should have and title slide, an overview and body of slides for the audience.  You should focus the majority of your presentation (i.e., 8-10 slides) on what challenges a new supervisor may face, what makes a good supervisor (or bad one) and how to transition to becoming a supervisor. Factors to consider in all forms of communication–Who is your audience? What is your message? Are you trying to persuade? Inform?

Here are some guidelines to get you started: You are the Lead Shift Supervisor and are going to brief a small group of newly promoted team leads with little or no past leadership experience. They have all worked up through the ranks at the Bad Teddy Bear Manufacturing Facility.  Your audience ages are anywhere from 25-35 years of age, with various business backgrounds, some with military experience, and some that have been in a little trouble before but now want to move up in the company. Many of them have good friends still “on the line” and will may have a struggle adjusting. Have fun with some of the topics and graphics of course!

There should be an introduction slide, a topic overview slide, 8-10 slides on presentation techniques, a conclusion slide and lastly a reference slide. Use the “notes” feature of PowerPoint to list your talking points on each slide for me to read what you would actually be saying.

Submission Instructions: Submit your work as an MS PowerPoint (.ppt) presentation. The body of your presentation should include at least 8-10 presentation slides, in addition to a title slide, introduction slide(s), and references at the end of your presentation for a total of no more than 15 slides. PowerPoint presentations longer than 15 slides will not be read after the 15th slide. As such, please ensure that all assignment questions are answered within the first 15 slides, as your grade will be based on the first 15 slides received.

Your grade will based upon your ability to follow assignment instructions, research conducted, effectiveness of the training proposed, critical thinking and analysis, and APA format.

Victims Rights

 Media and Victimization

This week’s required readings discuss crime victims’ participation in the criminal justice system and the impact that it has on the victim. Contemporary victimization is multifaceted. On the one hand, advancements in technology and knowledge acquisition have allowed investigators and law enforcement officials to effectively and efficiently address instances of victimization. On the other hand, residual effects of advancements have also presented negative costs to society and to individual victims and their families.

Address the following in your initial post:

  • Analyze the evolution of the media’s role in assisting and hindering investigation of victimization.
  • Critique the criminal justice system’s response to victimization and to media coverage of crime.

Your initial post must contain approximately 400 words and reference at least two scholarly sources in proper APA format.

  Victim’s Rights and Remedies

This week’s required readings discuss the legal rights and remedies of crime victims. Victimization can be devastating to an individual, to families, to communities, and to society. With contemporary understanding of the immediate and residual effects of victimization came the development of certain rights to redress and remedies to attempt to address the wrongs perpetrated against victims.

Address the following in your initial post:

  • In what ways can victimization be addressed?
  • In your response, critically analyze the rise of victimology and at least one remedy stemming from the criminal justice system’s response to victimization.
  • Explain its pros and cons and suggest holistic plans to address any issues with the methods used to remedy victimization.

Your initial post must contain approximately 400 words and reference at least two scholarly sources in proper APA format.

This is two separate discussion.

Assignment 2: Current Events and U.S. Diplomacy

This paper will be a revised and expanded version of the first research paper. Based on your instructor’s feedback, you will first revise the first paper.

Write three-to-four (3-4) new pages that address the following:

Define presidential doctrine and summarize the regional or global events during the Cold War leading up to the formation of the presidential doctrine you wrote about in Assignment 1.
Select one country you wrote about in Assignment 1 and describe the Cold War relationship that existed between the country you selected and the U.S. before the presidential doctrine was announced.
Describe the relationship that currently exists between the U.S. and the country you selected in section (2) above.
Describe the effect that the presidential doctrine has had on regional or global affairs since it was announced during the Cold War.
Assess whether or not the presidential doctrine you wrote about in Assignment 1 doctrine had had the intended effect of altering the behavior of the country you selected in section (2) above since the doctrine was first announced.
Use at least four (4) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

To help you understand this assignment further, the following description and examples may be useful.

Step 1: Define doctrine and identify why a president would want to announce one.

A doctrine is an ideological platform that a president uses to advance a policy towards a country or region in order to accomplish foreign policy goals for the United States, so you will need to expand on this theme.

Refer back to Assignment 1, and build on whatever doctrine you wrote about then. Say, for example, you selected the Truman Doctrine. Therefore, this is the only thing you will write about in Assignment 2 step 1.

Step 2: Select one country you wrote about in Assignment 1 and describe the Cold War relationship that existed between it and the U.S.

Before the presidential doctrine was announced. In the case of Truman, you would pick either the Soviet Union, Greece, or Iran, since all three were affected by his doctrine. If you are writing about the Eisenhower Doctrine, you would choose Lebanon or Egypt; if you wrote about the Kennedy Doctrine, you would have write about Cuba or Vietnam; if your wrote about the Nixon Doctrine, you would choose either Vietnam, Saudi Arabia or Iran; if you chose Carter, you would select either Iran or Afghanistan; and if you wrote about the Reagan Doctrine, you would select Nicaragua, Angola, Russia or Afghanistan (although there were several others).

Step 3: Describe what effect the presidential doctrine you chose has had on regional or global affairs since it was announced during the Cold War.

That is, how did the doctrine change the status quo regionally or globally after it was announced by the U.S.? What happened in Western Europe after the Truman Doctrine was announced? What happened in the Middle East after the Eisenhower Doctrine was announced? What happened with Cuba or Vietnam after Kennedy offered up his doctrine of flexible response? What happened in Southeast Asia or the Persian Gulf after the Nixon Doctrine went in effect? What happened in the Middle East after the Carter Doctrine was announced? What happened in Central America or Africa or the Middle East after Reagan announced his doctrine?

Step 4: Refer back to the country you selected in step two and describe the relationship that currently exists between the U.S. and that country.

How has the relationship changed between the U.S. and that country since the doctrine was announced?

Step 5: Evaluate whether or not the presidential doctrine had had the intended effect of altering the behavior of the one country you selected in section (2) above since the doctrine was first announced.
