Evaluating Four Alternative Inventory Methods Based on Income and Cash Flow – At the end of January 2011, the records of Donner Company showed the following for a particular item that sold at $16 per unit:

Transactions

Units

Amount

Inventory, January 1, 2011

500

$2,500

Purchase, January 12

600

3,600

Purchase, January 26

160

1,280

Sale

370

Sale

250

Required:

1. Assuming the use of a periodic inventory system, prepare a summarized income statement through gross profit for the month of January under each method of inventory: ( a ) average cost, ( b ) FIFO, (c ) LIFO, and (d ) specific identification. For specific identification, assume that the first sale was selected from the beginning inventory and the second sale was selected from the January 12 purchase. Round the average cost per unit to the nearest cent. Show the inventory computations in detail.

2. Of FIFO and LIFO, which method would result in the higher pretax income? Which would result in the higher EPS?

3. Of FIFO and LIFO, which method would result in the lower income tax expense? Explain, assuming a 30 percent average tax rate.

4. Of FIFO and LIFO, which method would produce the more favorable cash flow? Explain.

Assume that the discount rate is 10% per year, there is no chance of a repeat order, and Q will pay…

The lag between the purchase date and the date on which payment is due is known as the terms lag. The lag between the due date and the date on which the buyer actually pays is the due lag, and the lag between the purchase and actual payment dates is the pay lag. Thus, Pay lag=terms lag + due lag

State how you would expect the following events to affect each type of lag:

a. The company imposes a service charge on late payers.

b. A recession causes customers to be short of cash.

c. The company changes its terms from net 10 to net 20.

4. The Branding Iron Company sells its irons for $50 apiece wholesale. Production cost is $40 per iron. There is a 25% chance that wholesaler Q will go bankrupt within the next year. Q orders 1,000 irons and asks for six months’ credit. Should you accept the order? Assume that the discount rate is 10% per year, there is no chance of a repeat order, and Q will pay either in full or not at all.

Bibliographic details
Must be in APA format – see example below
Electronic journal article – without a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), from a database

Introduction (50 words)
In this section say who the authors are, briefly outline what the article is about and say if it is a useful article.
Summary (120 words)
In this section this is where you summarise the key points in the article. You may do this by referring to sections. For example:
First, the authors describe…
The second section deals with …
Finally, they move on to ….
Evaluation (300-350 words)
This is the most important part of the critical review as it accounts for 50%. This is where you think about who the article is written for, how useful the article is and what the strengths and weaknesses are. Ask yourself the following questions:
Are the authors experts in the field? Can they be regarded as credible?
Does the article have a clear structure? Are there headings, sub-headings, summaries, notes in the margin?
Do headings and sub-headings help the reader to understand the content?
Are there any images? If so, are they relevant to the topic? Do the images add meaning for the reader?
Is the language used easy to understand? Provide examples of easy to follow language.
What evidence is provided by the authors? Is it relevant? (use examples to support the point you make).
Is the information provided descriptive or analytical?
By thinking about other articles you have looked at for the report, is there enough detail provided in the Sadri and Condia article?
For an academic text there should be many in-text citations and a comprehensive reference list. For this article, are there many in-text citations in the text? Is there a reference list?

Instructions: 1. Cases will be randomly assigned in class. 2. Research the problem using the online Checkpoint tax research database. 3. Remember, there is no right or wrong answer. Many of the fact situations may be argued either for or against the taxpayer. d. Discussion Applicable Law 1. Cite Internal Revenue Code sections. 2. Other cites could include Regulations, Revenue Rulings, and court cases. a. Use the PROPER citation forms as shown in Chapter 2. 3. a. Your particular fact situation may or may NOT have applicable Regulations, Revenue Rulings, or court cases. 4. DO try to find all applicable law regarding your fact situation. Analysis 5. In this subsection compare your fact situation to ALL the authorities cited in the “Applicable Law” subsection of this Discussion . 6. IMPORTANT !!! For EVERY authority mentioned in the “Applicable Law” subsection include a COMPLETE analysis of how EACH cited authority relates to the facts of the research problem. 7. Be SPECIFIC and THOROUGH in your comparison. Cite every authority by NAME. COMMON ERRORS ON MEMORANDUM ASSIGNMENTS WHICH WILL RESULT IN POINT DEDUCTIONS 1. Failure to begin “Applicable Law” subsection with cite to a Code section. ALWAYS start with a code section, not the related Regulation. 2. Failure to give a full citation to a Revenue Ruling and, less commonly, a court case. Citation forms are shown in Chapter 2 of the text. 3. Citing to the CCH, RIA, or other tax service. DO NOT cite to these services. Cite to the primary source (i.e., Code, Regulations, Revenue Rulings, etc.). A tax service cannot be cited as an authority when representing your client before the IRS or in court. 4. A weak “Analysis” subsection. Most students do a reasonable job on the “Applicable Law” subsection, but then lose steam when comparing the…

I gave my dog left over spanish rice two nights ago and shortly thereafter she threw up. Then she did not eat any other food. Last night, she woke me up around 4am feeling sick and ready to throw up and by 5am actually did all over my bathroom floor. What she vomited was grass and bile, with some wood chips from the mulch my daughter just put on the yard. We tried to put aloe in her water but she did not drink it so we threw it away and gave her pure water. She has not eaten at all and I see her lethargic and hungry but not too hungry. She will eat a mouthful of herdog foodand then shy away. What can I give her so she does not throw up and sleeps restfully?

Communication also assists in meeting our psychosocial needs of love, belonging and self-esteem. Effective communication is essential to the delivery of healthcare and is guided by relevant health information. The significance of good communication to enable the deli very of appropriate, effective and efficient care has long been recognised. Effective communication allows you to get to know and understand people, to meet their care needs and accurately document their health history. Factors that impact on person-centred communication are: • Quality of encounters, including duration and depth of conversations; restriction and controlling course and topic; and limiting what a person can say . • Concerns over what people should be told and who should tell them Changes in communication skills of students resulting from various educational preparation programs; people often find difficulty communicating because they lack the knowledge and authority to answer questions. As healthcare grows more complicated and boundaries between healthcare providers become less defined, the ability to effectively communicate in a person-centred manner is of the utmost imp0l1ance. Being able to communicate well is a building block for the professional relationships between you and those in your care, your nursing and midwifery col· leagues and other healthcare professionals. Many experienced nurses and midwives identify the quality of their interpersonal relationships as the single most significant element in determining their effectiveness. Studies have shown that, in healthcare settings where ideas and information are freely exchanged, where problems are solved together when something goes wrong rather than assigning blame, where compliments are exchanged and humour is used creatively, staff morale is high, and there is a higher level of attainment of care outcomes. Communication influences health outcomes, so factors that impact on collaboration and teamwork among and between healthcare…
