Green Building – Sustainable Cities

I need to do a research paper about green building. below you will find the format requiered. Also below you will find a proposal that I did to my professor and the articles I would like to use on the paper. Lastly there is a feedback for my professor. I would like it to take into consideration.
The format of Research Project Paper:
Your research report is structured in a way to help you start creating the content of your website. You can change the headlines of the pages as long as you create the required content. Your page formatting should be double-spaced.
Research Project Proposal (this is what I already did)
1. Topic:Explain briefly the topic of your research. What aspect of urban sustainability will be pursued?
2. Rationale and background information:Support your rationale with findings from at least one academic article or report. Use in-text citations and include the sources in areferences list.
3. Problem statement objectives and research questions:State clearly your main study concern. The problem statement is the reason why the topic is important and relevant. What do you want to know/ change and why?
4. Plan of action:Give a brief schedule of your research tasks including methods.
5. Hypothesis ideas:Predict possiblebenefits relevance or advantages that may be derived from your proposed solutions.
Green building it is a building project that would allow you to preserve most of the natural environment around the project site while still being able to produce a building that is going to serve a purpose. The construction and operation will promote a healthy environment for all involved and it will not disrupt the land water resources and energy in and around the building. This is the actual definition of a green building.
The concept of green buildings is the measure of our efforts in attaining that idealistic sustainable construction practices. According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US Green Building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building life-cycle from siting to design construction operation maintenance renovation and deconstruction. This definition has evolved over the years. Green Buildings is an ever evolving dynamic term. Green Building is the status of our efforts in attaining sustainability in construction practices. As technology evolves and new materials are developed the status of our efforts is also changing. Hence the essence of green buildings is changing. The aim of this paper is to discuss sustainability with respect to green buildings its importance in one of the worlds leading Green Building program – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the perspective of sustainable material selection and governing policies in LEED. Furthermore the role of life cycle assessment (LCA) in assessing the sustainability claims of green buildings and building materials is introduced.

Professor’s Review (please keep into consideration)
Great topic! It would be really novel if you can select a few criteria from LEED-Green buildings and LCA and merge them in one scorecard. Then you can select a few case studies and compare them using your scorecard. This will take your project beyond what is already known and will help you build a really interesting website where people can find something to help them evaluate their projects. Use in-text citations >> (Bernstein and Bowerbank 2008).

Portugal Fire- HW

Whether performed in the United States or in any other country recovery is almost without question the most complicated aspect of emergency management and the least organized. Many (if not most) of the services and funding provided under ESF#14 focus on short- and medium-term recovery and as such long-term recovery is performed (for the most part) in a hap-hazard uncoordinated manner. The most common negative impact of failed or poor coordination is a maintained hazard risk and vulnerability to similar disaster events in the future.Secondary effects are missed opportunities to incorporate newer technologies better urban planning and other benefits that may have been neglected the first time around. Based on the Portugal Fire in June 2017 answer the following questions.
Given what you have learned this week in the readings and associated material:
a) What do you see as the greatest challenges to recovery in this instance?
b) What are the greatest opportunities that exist as a result of the disaster?
c) And finally how would you propose that the affected government coordinate recovery in the long-term?

Unit III Assignment
This assignment involves reading two scenarios and then answering each question that follows the scenarios. Insert your responses just below each question save all of your work and then submit it in Blackboard for grading.
Scenario #1
Our truck driver from previous scenarios puts in 500 miles per day with no more than 11 hours driving time allowed by DOT standards with a total of no more than 14 hours worked in a 24-hour period. Truck drivers must rest (or be off duty) for at least 10 hours for every 24-hour period. Traveling 500 miles in 11 hours means that the driver has to maintain an average of 45.5 miles per hour. Keep in mind that the driver will need to stop for various reasons such as fuel food and bathroom breaks (depending on how many large quantities of coffee they drank). Also the driver has a satellite system in the truck that monitors the miles driven the average and specific speed the fuel flow and time.
Question 1. Use the Iowa Model (page 270 of the textbook) to make recommendations for improving the performance of drivers in the scenario.
(1) The effect of combining tasks what are three examples that the driver could do to combine tasks to improve efficiency?
(2) The effect of performing particular task sequences recommend a sequence for a series of tasks for the driver to maintain accuracy and productivity.
(3) The effect of pacing how much time the driver spends on each task.
Question 2. Provide examples of how as an ergonomics safety professional you might help the driver prevent the common CTDs of low back pain sciatica and thoracic outlet syndrome? Think in terms of analysis and body measurements. What type of technique would you use to capture and interpret the data based on the techniques discussed in chapter 6? Your response should be at least 150 words.
Question 3. Knowing that the driver gets paid by the mile and has to travel 500 miles per day in order to make his daily pay list several things that drivers do that might be dangerous to themselves or others in order to make this production. These are items that we as safety professionals should be on the lookout for. Your response should be at least 150 words.
Scenario #2
Look at a typical racing team. NASCAR Indy car or Formula one racing teams have developed specific and targeted routines for their drivers and pit crews. Years ago these very teams had little in the way of safety devices or ergonomic tools and the drivers and crews paid with their lives at times. In todays racing world the drivers and pit crews use highly detailed tools to help advance their team in the race while also keeping team members safe. The crew chief and his assistants monitor all aspects of the team to include fuel usage tire usage tire pressure engine diagnostics as well as other details. To indicate the importance of such details racing teams have both won and also lost races due to fuel usage.
Question 1. Using your favorite search engine locate and watch race footage or actually watch a race and describe some of the safety tools the teams use to prevent injury in the pit area. Specifically look at the fueler the tire changer and the tire wrangler. Also look at items that are ergonomically beneficial to these team members. Your response should be at least 150 words.
Question 2. While viewing the race footage spend some time watching the driver while he or she is in the car. What devices does the driver use specifically for safety? What about the ergonomic devices that allow the driver to turn left at very high speeds for several hundreds of miles without sustaining either short- or long-term injury. Discuss this in terms of body measurements and modeling. Your response should be at least 150 words.
Question 3. The crew chief spends significant amounts of time in practice with the pit crew. They try to reduce valuable seconds from their work times with the car while in the pits. Discuss several ways using the items you learned from this unit (analysis measurement modeling sampling) that the crew chief might use to evaluate the team. As a safety professional assigned to the team and answering to the teams owners give one or two suggestions to improve the safety of the crew. Your response should be at least 150 words.

Option #2: Scientific Inquiry Presentation Using WildCam Gorongosa
Gorongosa National Park is a 1570-square mile protected area in Mozambique. Lion researcher Paola Bouley and her team use motion-detecting trail cameras to learn more about Gorongosas lions. Lions are not the only animal captured by these cameras. The photos provide valuable information on a variety of different animals including numbers to help estimate populations behaviors and interactions with other animals. The public has identified animals and collected data from the photos on a citizen science website called WildCam Gorongosa (www.wildcamgorongosa.org). The WildCam Lab is a part of WildCam Gorongosa where you can view trail camera data on a map and filter and download the data to investigate scientific questions.
The process of science termed the scientific method is iterative and adaptable.
In this activity you will learn firsthand what it is like to be an ecologist studying Gorongosas wildlife. You will use actual trail camera data to generate a testable question form a hypothesis and prediction and choose and analyze the appropriate data to answer your question from the WildCam Lab. The results of your investigation may contribute to the conservation effort in Gorongosa National Park.
The above text taken nearly verbatim from Student Worksheet which can be downloaded from http://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/scientific-inquiry-using-wildcam-gorongosa.Complete the worksheet and use the information to create your PowerPoint presentation and submit it in the Module 1 Folder.

Environmental Controversy – Resources and Pollution

This week’s environmental controversy focuses on bottled water in terms of its health safety and financial issues. People disagree on whether government or private groups should be designated to promote healthier water. What is your position? Review the background information. Then using the references along with resources from your own research write a 1-2 page response to the questions below. Remember to cite your sources using proper APA format.
Background Information
Critics of bottled water note that the products often contain dangerous bacteria and other contaminants. They argue that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needs to better regulate the contents of bottled water. Others argue that media watchdog groups and competition within the private sector rather than more regulations are the best solutions for improving the quality of bottled water.

Assignment 2: Demographic Transitions
Demographic transition is the process in which a nation transitions from being a less industrialized society with high birth and death rates to an industrialized nation with lower birth and death rates. Many countries have already been through this transition including the United States England and Canada.
The demographic transition to an industrialized society is detrimental for the environment because industrialized societies tend to use up nonrenewable resources and give off pollution. Industrialized nations have the largest ecological and carbon footprint relative to developing or nonindustrialized countries. Fortunately there are some benefits to the process of demographic transition including lower birth and death rates. Essentially people in industrialized countries have fewer children and this in turn helps control the overall population size.
Demographic transition involves the following five stages:
It should be noted that stage 5 is controversial and it is sometimes not considered to be a stage. This is partially because so few countries are at this stage.
The following graph depicts the various stages of demographic transition:
Using the stages listed above create a demographic and environmental timeline for one industrialized country excluding the United States. The following are a few suggested industrialized nations:
You candownloadthe Demographic and Environmental TimelineUnited States of America to review an example of such a timeline.
Include the following points in your timeline in order to examine the advantages and drawbacks of demographic transition in your selected country:
Support your timeline with appropriate examples and a minimum of three credible resources.
