My topic is: Building Teams That Work
In the informative essay you identified several issues related to the topic you have chosen to work on this quarter. In your next assignment you will get a chance to fix one of those problems. We are calling this assignment a stance essay because you will be taking a position on an issue but we could just as easily label it a persuasive or argumentative essay which are common terms in writing textbooks. This type of essay requires you to have an opinion but more important it requires you to back up that opinion with authoritative information and statements from experts.
The Webtext explains how this essay fits into the arc of assignments on the same topic:
In this version you will move from simply discussing the issue to developing an updated essay that takes a clear stance on one aspect of your topic. The goal of this essay is to learn how changing the purpose of the writing (from informative to more argumentative) impacts the content and potential audience. Further it will help you understand the difference between writing to argue your perspective and writing to educate your audience.
Here are some examples of opinions related to topic choices:
State and federal governments should provide more funds for programs to prevent domestic violence.
Secondary schools should include personal budgeting classes in their curriculums.
All states should adopt laws allowing (or prohibiting) the administration of corporal punishment of children by their parents.
Chapter 7 of the Webtext guides you through creating a thesis and an outline for this assignment.
Chapter 8 provides information to help you to complete your final copy and to assess your own work.
In stating your opinion you should still use third person point of view exclusively. It is not necessary to say I believe or I think; state the opinion and your reader will recognize it as your belief and not a fact. The overall tone of the essay should continue to be objective and reasoned. While the purpose of an argument is to persuade a reader you should avoid using second person to address the audience directly.
Although your final copy is not due until the end of Week 10 please note that you will need to have a draft of the essay completed by Week 9 in order to post in the discussion. The Week 9 discussion will enable you to receive peer feedback on your paper and to read and comment on other students papers. For this reason you should plan to finish your draft this week and post it at thebeginningof Week 9. The earlier in Week 9 that you post your paper the more likely you are to get useful feedback on it. Also note that the draft that you post will not be graded by me.
Here are three more important points to keep in mind about Assignment 3:
The required length is 7-8 pagesincludingthe cover page and references page; that is there should be 5-6 pages of text.
You must use at least 5 academically acceptable sources and no more than two of these can be from the list provided in the Webtext.
No content should be repeated from the informative essay.
As you see I need an essay done on my topic Building Teams That Work. And I also need a draft essay of my topic by Monday or Tuesday to turn in first.

sociology 19

You will find the reading choices and the grading rubric on the Resources tab.
Assignment information: Identify the main points of each reading and discuss critically and analyticallyuse your sociological imagination! This can include comparing/contrasting the two readings making connections between the two readings how you see the readings relating (or not) to your life experiences (although you must talk about more than just this!) questions you have after thinking about the readings and/or how the readings relate to information from the core textbook and/or lecture and discussion section activities… A good place to start is to consider any questions posed at the end of the reading if given. You need to include at least two quotes (with an in-text citatationsee below for format information) from each reading in such a way that it is meaningful and explained as needed. Your writeup should be at least 900 words. You will need to write in a word processing program–and be sure to save a copythen copy/paste into the moodle assignment dropbox.

Keep in mind the rubric standards:strong opening thesis statementgood organization and development of key ideas in the body paragraphsstrong conclusion. Think about the following questions as you read the paper.
1.How well does the essay achieve its purpose?
2.What can you learn from this draft and apply to your own paper?
3.Does the writer provide adequate support for his or her claims?
4.Does the writer adhere to APA requirements especially in terms of documentation?
5.Is the writing fluent? Or do errors in mechanics undercut the writer’s credibility?
I have posted the attachment of the essay. I also posted the attachment of what I have for an answer for this discussion. Now I need to comment on my class mates discussion post. Both of them.

RE: Week 8 Discussion
I made a few comments and noted some concerns while reading the essay
The title of the essay is The Gift of Choice. In my opinion after reading the essay I felt the title should have been E-Textbook VS Traditional Book.I did notget the message of choice but rather a debate of what type of book is better suited for a specific student.
In the opening paragraph there is no Thesis statement that clearly defines what the body of the essay will be debating.
In the second paragraph there is an in-text citation. There is no reference to that in-text citation on the Reference List.
In the fourth paragraph the in-text citation includes the full first and last name of the author. Only the last name is required according to the APA Purdue Owl guide
Paragraph five is hard to follow and I am not sure why the Author documented parenthesis in the last sentence.
Paragraph five – the quote is more than (40) words. The format is incorrect. The quote should be a free-standing of type written lines
Paragraph five – the in-text citation documents the full first and last name of author again.
Paragraph eleven – the first sentence is hard to follow and the author used parenthesis again not sure why
Sentence structure could be slightly improved to make reading through the body of many paragraphs more fluent and defined Thesis would have helped to understand the essay. Overall the essay did communicate a clear debate of e-textbooks vs traditional textbooks.
On page 7the authors names are not in alphabetical order under the Reference list.
Should the authors full first name be documented on the Reference list?
The formatting of the Reference list is not consistent
I need at least a 75-word comment for my class mate on what she wrote about the stance essay.

RE: Week 8 Discussion
Hello Everyone
The essay achieves its purpose perfectly it gives us readers examples and plenty of information on e-textbooks. It explains the pros and cons one thing I do suggest is their are smaller paragraphs that could have been fit into the other paragraphs the writier did repeat him/her self. Ive learned on how to fix information into the essay along with putting in the references. The writer does provide adequatesupport to his/her claims the essay does give its pros and cons but also in each paragraph its a break down of information. I do not believe the writer used APA format reason for this is because if you look closely the cover page did not the title or page number. There are a fewer errors that the writer did in the beginning of the essay there was no actually thesisstatement.

Single Source Essay:Using one of the patterns of development that you learned about for Paper 2(particularly argument cause and effect description or narration) create a multimodal project that utilizes that type of development. This should be carefully constructed to address your topic effectively. You can create a movie trailer an infographic a video a narrated PowerPoint a Slidecast a song a public service announcement blog post etc. If you choose something that is not on this list please be sure to talk it over with the instructor. Your project should also have a corresponding 250-500 word reflection of the patterns you chose your other rhetorical choices in the piece and the difference that you feel that they made to the efficacy of your project. Why did you choose the particular pattern/medium that you did? What is the effect on the reader/viewer? Do you feel that a written paper would have been more effective than your multimodal project or vice versa? If so why?

Myths of the American Family Discussion Board I
No unread replies.No replies.
For our first academic style discussion board please respond to the following questions based on the readings. Your responses should be thoughtful and thorough. Treat these like you were answering them as short answer responses on paper. Quoting from the texts is encouraged but is not yet necessary. Whatever the case your response should show that you did the reading and that you are giving thought and attention to the question at hand. Once you post your answers to these questions the others’ responses will become visible to you. At that point you may make follow-up comments on others’ posts.
REMINDER ABOUT FOLLOW-UP POSTS: Canvas does NOT generate a reminder to you about making the follow-up postings! Make sure to do them! Also when you do them make sure you are ADDING TO THE DISCUSSION not just saying I agree with you or some meaningless single line comment. The idea is that you are sort of simulating in-class discussion of these topics! Make your responses thoughtful.
From Looking for Work on page 22:
1. Please respond to #1 on page 24.
2. Please respond to #3 on page 24.
3. Please respond to #5 on page 24.
From What We Really Miss ABout the 1950s on page 25:
4. Please respond to #1 on page 40.
5. Please respond to #3 on page 40. You do NOT need to try to create some chart like the prompt states however…that would be possible via the tools on Canvas or via uploading a file but that’s a big mess I won’t force you to deal with.Instead simply list decades and their key characteristics and then compare your own family history as you know/understand it to this information.
6. Please respond to #4 on page 40.

Citicorp Case Study assignment

Citicorp Case Study Group Essay
William LeMessurier Case Study Assignment Guide
William LeMessurier and his role in the Citicorp Tower controversy represent an example of when engineering ethics are put to the test. As you think about this case and prepare your consensus essay (see below) think about how ethical decisions are socially-situated. That is ethical decisions are rife with conflicting agendas and diverse interests that must be negotiated. As Dr. Loui points out as a professional engineer you need to avoid situations where your judgment as a professional can be questioned. However the very nature of an employer-client relationship will place you in an ethical dilemma; one where you will need to reconcile your contractual responsibility to your client while simultaneously adhering to the moral responsibility of the publics safety.
After watching the The Citicorp Tower case blog post in your zodiac groups you need to write a 300-400 word consensus essay where you synthesize your initial reactions to the Citicorp case . Here we are looking for you to first explain possible dissenting opinions on this case study AND subsequently reach a group consensus and offer supporting explanation that provides rationale for this consensus.
In order to help your group decide whether or not LeMessurier adhered to the fundamental canons of engineering ethics in his handling of the Citicorp Tower repairs please refer to the Fundamental Canons of Engineering Ethics as codified by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).
This assignment is worth 50 points and support learning objectives related to ethics education and written communication.
Your essay will be graded on the following factors: 1. Your essay provides a summary of dissenting opinions 2. Your essay provides a clear consensus 3. Both the dissenting opinions and consensus refer to the fundamental canons of engineering ethics 4. Your essay adheres to the grammatical conventions of academic writing

Fix Final Paper

I HAVE A FINAL PAPER THAT NEEDS TO BE EDITED SO THAT IT’LL GO WITH WHAT’S REQUIRED ACCORDING TO MY GRADE RUEBRIC. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE PAPER.
Final Paper: Oral History Interview Paper
Throughout the course you will be exploring various aspects of culture and intercultural communications. Your final assignment in this course will be to conduct an extensive oral history interview with a person who is somewhat older than you and from a culture or subgroup that you are not a member of. This person can be a relative or acquaintance who is from a different generation. It can be someone who immigrated to this country either recently or some time ago. Or it can be someone who belongs to a different subgroup from you and whose cultural experiences you believe would be very different from your own. Obtain permission from the person you are interviewing to record the conversation (either an audio or a video and audio recording) or to take handwritten notes during the interview.
Your overarching goals during the oral history interview are as follows:
After you have conducted the interview review your recording or your notes and write a six- to eight-page paper (excluding a title page and a reference page) in which you discuss aspects of this person’s culture and/or subcultures and communication issues related to his or her cultural identity. In the paper you must also include the following:
Your paper should be written in paragraph form not in a question and answer format. Thus you must weave the information you present into a coherent narrative form paraphrasing the information gleaned from the interview or using direct quotations from your interview subject as appropriate. Your primary sources of information for this paper will be the interview subject and the course text. However your assignment is not merely to describe the conversations you had with this person but also to critically evaluate what you learned from them and to tie this information to concepts you have studied in this course about culture and intercultural communication.
To meet this objective you must relate ideas you learned during the interview to material you have studied in the text or other course resources and supplement your textbook and course resources by researching at least one key cultural issue in greater depth using the Ashford University Library and/or the Internet.
A proposal and a preliminary reference page for the final Oral History Interview paper are due in Week Two of the course and a draft of this paper is due in Week Four. The final Oral History Interview Paper is due at the end of Week Five. Specific requirements for each of these assignments are outlined in the written assignments section of the appropriate course weeks. The final version of the paper must be submitted in Week Five and must be between six and eight pages in length (six to eight pages of text plus a title page and a reference page). This paper is designated as a *Portfolio Project* which means you should retain a copy of the final version of the paper (after incorporating any instructor feedback) to be used in a personal portfolio you will prepare in the capstone course in your Bachelor of Arts in Communication program.
