Assignment Description

For this assignment, you need to choose an industry and then analyze the growth pattern of that industry during periods of recession and periods of expansion. Examples of industries that you could choose from include auto, airline, higher education, food, healthcare, agriculture, housing, social media, fast food, sport, gaming, pharmaceutical, and movie industry, or whatever other industry you prefer. Remember, you are analyzing the growth pattern of the industry, not a specific commodity. The goal of this assignment is to

1. analyze the growth pattern of a specific industry;

2. identify the sources of the growth; and

3. determine the relationship between GDP growth and the growth of that industry.

Your research needs to be structured with consistent and clear thoughts. It also needs to be supported by facts and data. Your results need to be based on solid facts. Your conclusion and opinion need to be thorough and based on your findings and understanding of GDP, the sources of GDP growth, and the growth pattern and sources of your industry.

In light of the article and video, I want to ask two questions for you to discuss and argue: 

1.   What role do police and the increasing militarization of police (SWAT, military tactics, etc) and the blurring of the line between police and military play in the tendency of government to criminalize ordinary behavior? 

2.  What ethical problems does this tendency to criminalize ordinary behavior cause for the traditional police role of “protect and serve?” 

3. what can you do as a law enforcement leader to change the direction of this trend toward criminalizing everything and back towards a more rational common sense approach 

 There is a book written by a legal scholar named Harvey Silverglate titled “Three Felonies a Day.” The assertion behind the book is that because of over-criminalization, over-regulation, and vague laws, the average person in American society commits three felonies a day. Interview Assignment Part IV

The interview assignment asks you to perform an informational interview with a professional within the Fitness and Wellness industry. The person does not have to be an owner but simply someone who is or has been highly active in the administrative and operations of any aspect of the Fitness and Wellness industry. For example, a personal trainer who successfully contracts services, a physical therapist who actively performs payroll and PT assistant hiring, a head or assistant coach who performs operational and budgeting tasks would all be acceptable.

     Before the actual interview, you will design several interview questions based on your interests as a fitness professional. The interview can be in person or via phone or skype.  Use the information gathered from the following video: How to Do an Informational Interview to prepare yourself for the interview.  Write out the questions before the interview. The interview should last between 15 – 45 minutes. Following the interview, write a summary of your findings. The summary, to be submitted for the Final (4th) Assignment, should be at least 3-5 pages, APA formatted, and should provide information on what made this person successful in his or her business, as well as any characteristics of the business that make it successful. Add your thoughts and comments on the experience with the interview and how your findings influence your thoughts on running or starting a business.
