The homework assignment is: ” Hume’s argument claims that the previous empiricists were missing something they believed had knowledge of something Hume says they did not have. They made a mistake. What was the mistake? What does Hume think we can know?
We had to listen to an audio file on Locke and Berkeley . I am assuming these are the previous empiricists.

Answer the following questions in a minimum of 1-2 paragraphseach. Be sure to explain your answers and give reasons for your views.

1. Is Sartre exaggerating the extent to which people can define themselves when he says “existence precedes essence”?
2. Are people wholly responsible for the kind of persons they become? What do you make of Hospers’ psychoanalytic view that our actions are beyond our control due to our unconscious mind?
3. Which seems more likely to you: that your path in life is determined before you were born, or that you are born and then you determine how your life will go? Why? Is there a middle ground on this issue?
4. What is your reaction to Sartre’s perspective on freedom? Do you find his view liberating and inspiring, or do you think it is disheartening and forlorn?

• If you chose a dystopian story, what vision of the future did the reading reflect?

America’s Industrial Revolution transformed all sectors of the economy and changed society. Some of the business practices of the late 1800s and early 1900s are described. There are pros and cons to these developments. On one hand, they streamlined costs and made goods and new products available to many more consumers. But, there were also consequences—some unintended.

Choose one of these two new problems introduced by the American Industrial Revolution.

1. The development of monopolies instead of a competitive business market.
2. Unsafe and oppressive work conditions.

Then, in a full paragraph or two:

• Identify your chosen problem.
• Discuss a specific example from that period that clearly illustrates the chosen problem and a negative consequence of it. What did the government do about this—and what should it have done?

Journal Article Analysis

Each student will select one of the key terms presented in the module and conduct a search  find 1 recent peer-reviewed academic journal article (within the past 3 years) that closely relate to the concept. Your submission must include the following information in the following format:

DEFINITION: a brief definition of the key term followed by the APA reference for the term; this does not count in the word requirement.
