Please (i) explain what he means by exploitation and forced labor, and (ii) briefly discuss whether you agree with him.

Marx maintains that capitalism inevitably involves exploitation and that workers’ labor is “not voluntary, but coerced; it is forced labor” (p. 295). Please (i) explain what he means by exploitation and forced labor, and (ii) briefly discuss whether you agree with him.

Evaluate the potential impact of the updated facility and new therapy services on potential improvements in patient satisfaction and developing new marketing share.

You currently work for the development department of Sunny Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Sunny Manor was once a privately owned small skilled nursing home in Sunny Beach, Florida until it was sold 6 years ago to a larger group of investors known for buying older nursing homes and developing them into larger more modern skilled nursing and rehab centers. Sunny Beach itself is a small retirement community close to larger beach towns. Most of the residents are 55 years or older, and there is a growing population of 70+ retired adults. However, the city is known for being technologically advanced for a retirement community. In fact, the city has a popular social media page followed by many residents and a very popular online newsletter that can be accessed through most social media programs. Also, 5 years ago, a brand new hospital opened just outside of Sunny Beach. This brought some the top physicians and surgeons in the state to the area.

Sunny Manor recently finished a major renovation, updating the previous long-term-care wings and adding a new wing with 20 new rooms. The new wing is solely dedicated to sub-acute rehab services, and the facility also added a new updated therapy room with an expanded therapy staff and modern high-tech equipment.

After working in care coordination and admissions for the past several years, you have been promoted to the development department and tasked with marketing the new facility. The goal is to build a stronger relationship with the discharge staff and physicians at the new hospital and expand a broader reach to the community.

The first step is for you to analyze and research the changing community and develop a marketing proposal for your boss, the director of development, on how to best connect with the community of Sunny Beach and increase referrals from the new hospital.

For this task, develop a summary marketing proposal on the above scenario that includes the following elements:

  • Evaluate the potential impact of the updated facility and new therapy services on potential improvements in patient satisfaction and developing new marketing share.
  • Assess possible methods to build rapport within Sunny Beach and surrounding communities.
  • Develop a plan for communicating with the community better through social media by connecting Sunny Manor to the residents of Sunny Beach through digital marketing.
  • Provide details on how ongoing research into the community will help Sunny Manor stay ahead of the competition and well connected with community. Consider concepts in monitoring the changing demographics of the community and growing health care sector.
  • Propose a research design model including all the key elements of the research design. Apply an assessment tool and implementation plan such as the Model for Improvement (Plan-Do-Study-Act [PDSA]).
  • Conclude with recommending models and/or tools that will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the development teams’ efforts on an ongoing basis .

The body of the resultant report should be 7 pages and include at least 7 relevant peer-reviewed academic or professional references published within the past 5 years. For a resource guide on using the online library to search for references, please click here.

Explain how sociologists view the relationship between the key social variables of a class, gender, race and health outcomes.

Overview

From a sociological viewpoint, the analysis of health outcomes can be understood through a variety of social variables. Throughout this semester, we have covered several of these, including race, gender, and class in society. For sociologists, these variables can be correlated very strongly with longevity rates, propensities for certain types of disease, and overall rates of mortality. In this final essay, you will describe the key relationship between these social variables and health outcomes and also engage in your own research in which you will come up with one meaningful example of a health issue that is impacted by these variables. This paper will conclude with a discussion on how government interventions (organizations and agencies) are improving health outcomes.

Instructions

Complete a 6-page paper that satisfies the following three areas:

  1. Explain how sociologists view the relationship between the key social variables of a class, gender, race and health outcomes. For example, explain how social class can help us predict health-related outcomes. You would do the same for gender and race.
  2. Select an illness (e.g., Diabetes, Lupus, Heart Disease) whose health outcomes are clearly impacted by class, gender, and race (all three variables).

  • First, describe the illness.
  • Then explain how the three variables can have an impact on health outcomes in relation to the illness.
  • For example, what can you tell me about the health outcomes of Asians (race) suffering from diabetes (illness)? 9% are at moderate risk for diabetes.
  • Include at least 3 peer-reviewed journal articles (no more than five years old) to validate your arguments, thoughts, and opinions.

3. Explain how government interventions are improving health outcomes (the illness you selected) in terms of class, gender, and race (all three). Here, you want to identify government organizations/agencies in the U.S.  that addresses the illness (one organization for each variable).

  • For example, how is the Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Minority Health  (organization) improving health outcomes for minorities (race) who are suffering from diabetes (illness)?
  • Within the essay, be sure to include and apply at least 3 social concepts learned from the course material (other than class, gender, and race).

The assignment should include a title/cover page, abstract, body of the paper, and a reference page. Note, the cover and reference page does not count toward the requirements.

The paper should be typed, double-spaced, 1” margins, times new roman 12 pt font, and saved as .doc.  The paper should be in APA format (cover page, running header, major heading, subheadings to identify each section (e.g., Social Variables and Health Outcomes, Diabetes and Health Outcomes, Government Intervention), in-text citations, and reference list). You want to make sure most of the information presented in your essay is written in your own words and sources should be no more than five years old. Will be checked for plagiarism.

Identify a nation that has been / is working to reduce its population growth. For how long?

The Best Contraceptives?

It has been said that in nations seeking to reduce their population growth rate, a combination of sustainable economic development along with improved educational and socio-economic opportunities for women are the best “contraceptives” (i.e. ways to reduce a woman’s total fertility rate; don’t know this term? Look it up before posting).

A. How does improving educational opportunities for women help reduce population growth (in those nations seeking to do so)?  Cite specific scientific, demographic, socioeconomic and/or geopolitical evidence from one (1) nation that is working to reduce its population growth rate and where improving education for women has worked / is working.

Be sure to back up your explanations with some research before discussing this topic online with your classmates. Be sure to read relevant sections of your text (and supplementary readings from this Module) and look online.  Start with these background readings:

Organize your posting by using the letter/number combinations as follows to earn up to 12 points. Be specific and thorough. Cite statistics in A2, A3.

A1. Identify a nation that has been / is working to reduce its population growth. For how long? (2 points)

A2. What has this nation done to improve the educational opportunities for its women? (5 points)

A3. How have increased educational opportunities for these women changed their socio-economic status? (5 points)

You must cite at least one source in your posting. Please use MLA or APA formating to cite your source.

B. After you have posted, you must respond to at least one of your classmates right there on the discussion thread. (4 points)

Describe what demographic audience would you not work well with and why.

The Progressive Case Study

The Green Organization serves all socioeconomic groups across the globe. The Real Estate Holdings group leases and sells luxury apartments in Manhattan. They also own and manage a portfolio of homes they lease to the disadvantaged, or severely infirm. The teams employed in this group range from high end real estate sales to the socially conscious leasing agent, a broad spectrum.

The Mergers and Acquisitions group buys and sells companies across the globe. The group not only does this for the Green Organization, they also broker business sales, mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships for clients. Brokers work with current and prospective clients to determine what the right business is, how to structure the deal, fix and flip, and business development. Personnel are diverse in professional sales and business skills. The average employee in this group has a minimum BA and 10 years in this industry. Turnover is very low. All personnel are well compensated.

The Finance Group provides funding and investing sources for the other groups as well as external clients. Clients can include automobile dealerships, lines of credit at retail stores, personal loans, and micro loans. The group manages a portfolio of around $10 Billion. The company owns 50% of the portfolio. The remaining 50% is client funds. The personnel range from Aggressive hard driving sales people working with large organization to fund development or sell loan portfolios to the small business lender and individual lender to make micro-loans (amounts under 10K) to start a business.

Consider this:

Based on your reading of the case information above as well as in Hale and Pershing this week, describe your target audience.

Is our Immigration system fair for everyone?

Immigration.

· Is our  Immigration system fair for everyone?

· Is it fair to deny people access to be living in our country?

· What effects would deportation of illegal immigrants have on family members living legally within the United States? What options would be available to prevent separation?

Compose as complete of a draft as possible.  includes 7-10 sources using in-text citations as well as an accompanying bibliography using either MLA as Works Cited or APA as References. (use Real sources, make sure they are credible sources, no Wikipedia nothing like that) incorporated using in-text citations as well as an accompanying bibliography using either MLA as Works Cited or APA as References. Remember this is a rough draft.

I’m looking for an informative approach with attention to ethically incorporating source material by documenting your preliminary sources.

You will revise and add the remaining sources to the next version, so be sure not to turn this in as incomplete.

  • Do you agree or disagree with your classmate’s central claim? Are you more inclined to resist or accept your classmate’s position?
  • How strong are the opposing arguments that your classmate presented? Are there other opposing arguments that should be considered?
  • How would you refute or accommodate those arguments?

>> Class,

This week’s discussion assignment is designed to help you incorporate opposing and alternative views into your paper, and to refute those views. Here is an example of incorporating such a section (which is also called a concession/ refutation) into your paper. Please note– This is not an example of how to do the discussion assignment, but how to incorporate the opposing/ alternative views into your final draft of the paper.

Incorporating Opposing/ Alternative Views (Concession/ Refutation section)

Remember, the point is to show the opposing side that you understand their argument and can “concede” them their view; this shows you are reasonable and aware of the many sides of the issue. However, you want to “refute” their objection(s), which makes your own argument stronger. Think of it like answering the objections of the other side.
Example Thesis:

While the soda tax was ultimately defeated in Santa Fe, the issue of the need for affordable pre-K programs for all families and children was not put to rest. Since the federal government is not taking responsibility for this issue, cities and states need to. They need to allocate funds themselves to fund these programs, even if it takes creating a special income tax. Citizens need to demand and rally for a prioritization of this issue, which affects the future of our whole society—the children.

Concession/ Refutation section:

Those who voted against the tax on soda had some valid points of objection. They argued that the tax would unfairly target low-income families (who generally consume more soda beverages) and they would effectively end up shouldering the burden of cost for the pre-K programs. They were rightly concerned, especially since there is a huge wealth divide in Santa Fe, and there are many Santa Fe residents who could afford a small tax on particular foods or beverages, while there are many others who cannot. However, these concerns and issues ultimately do not outweigh the benefits of such a tax—especially on what is a nonessential and even health-compromising product. Opponents want to find a better way to raise money; but there will never be a tax that does not anger and outrage certain citizens, who feel they should not have to pay for something that doesn’t affect them directly, or that they don’t feel strongly about. Additional taxes, even for good causes, are usually unpopular. Perhaps there should be proposed a tax that does not apparently single out a certain demographic of the city, or the city needs to find a new way to allocate money for early childhood education programs.
