PSY260 Module 3 Assignment 2 LASA 1 Promoting Cognitive Development

PSY260 Module 3 Assignment 2 LASA 1 Promoting Cognitive Development

As you have learned in your readings, Piaget, Erikson, Skinner, and Vygotsky took different approaches to child development. One’s theoretical perspective influences approaches to child development. The Jacksons are a young couple living in Centervale. They have approached Keith, the child development consultant, for advice on how to promote and nurture the cognitive development of their preschooler Jasmine.

Watch the following video to learn more about the similarities and differences of developmental theories. Study of the Child: Theories of Development I, produced by Herzog, Milan & Herzog, Shanta (Learning Seed, 1997), 29:02 mins obtained from Alexander Street Press Education in Video from AUO Library.

Compare and contrast the approaches of each of the four perspectives (Piaget, Erikson, Skinner, and Vygotsky).

Explain how each theorist would approach the issue of cognitive development in early childhood. Describe how Keith’s advice to Jasmine’s parents might vary depending on his theoretical perspective.

What role would society and family play in Jasmine’s cognitive development at this stage of development? What cultural, psychosocial and physical influences will be seen?

Incorporate information learned in your readings and at least one peer-reviewed article from the AUO library to support your conclusions.

Write a 6-7 page paper in Word format. Be sure to include introductory and concluding paragraphs in your paper, a title page and a reference page. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Fair-Minded Qualities

Fair-Minded Qualities

After reading about each of the qualities needed to be a fair-minded thinker, pick one quality you feel you possess and describe how you fulfill this quality.

Select two qualities that you feel you need to develop or improve upon, how you might go about improving/developing these qualities, and what obstacles you might face in improving/developing these qualities (steps one through four of the decision making process).

Next, use the following process listed below to develop your plan of action.  Construct a detailed plan for developing or improving the qualities you have chosen (step five of the decision making process).

Decision Making Process

  • Step One: As clearly as possible, define the decision you are faced with.
  • StepTwo: Consider each possible choice you have for resolving the issue.
  • Step Three: Gather as much relevant information as time allows, and identify the pros and cons of each of the choices you have to solve your issue.
  • Step Four: Based on your list of pros and cons, choose the best method for resolving the issue.
  • Step Five: Construct a plan of action to implement your method (be sure to leave yourself enough flexibility to make adjustments as necessary).

Your completed assignment should be written primarily in first person and should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Ethnographic Comparison

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Ethnographic Comparison

Anthropologists are interested in framing broad hypotheses about human behavior. In order to do this, it is imperative to use examples from multiple cultures to ensure that their conclusions are not grounded in a single case.

In this assignment, you will be taking on the role of an ethnologist, using multiple ethnographic accounts to study human behavior and culture.

Do the following:

  • Identify two to three societies to compare, such as an African society (for example, Ethiopian, Liberian, etc.), Indian, Chinese, Korean, or one of the many Native American groups (for example, the Cherokee, the Inuit, etc.).
  • Choose one aspect of human culture discussed in the course:
    • Domestic life and kinship
    • Subsistence and economy
    • Religion
    • Culture change

Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, write a research paper to include the following:

  • Describe the background information of each of the societies you have chosen. You need not analyze this background information, only provide details regarding these societies.
  • Analyze the aspect of human culture you selected for each of the societies.
  • Compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the societies in relation to the topic you chose—for example, standard of living, education, or employment opportunities.
  • Summarize and address human behavior in relation to your topic and based on your examples.
    • Address the realities of life for the cultures you have examined.
    • Examine some of the social problems and public policy issues that become apparent.

Your paper should have a title page as well as an introduction section. This introduction section should include the societies you selected as well as the human culture aspect you will be discussing and why it is relevant to anthropology. As an anthropologist, use relevant anthropological terms in your analysis.

Support your statements with examples and scholarly references.

Write a 4–6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Environmental toxicology examines how environmental exposures

Environmental toxicology examines how environmental exposures

Environmental Toxicology and Human Health
Environmental toxicology examines how environmental exposures to chemical pollutants may present risks to biological organisms, particularly animals, birds, and fishes. Exposure to a physical, chemical, or biological agent may arise from a number of environmental sources, including the workplace, the home, and the medications and foods that we consume. On the list of hazardous chemicals and other agents that impact human reproduction negatively are pesticides, drugs, and heavy metals.
Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research on the following topics:
Physical Agents
Chemical Agents
Biological Agents
On the basis of your research and understanding of the topic, answer the following questions:
Identify and describe five factors that affect responses to a toxic chemical.
What determines the toxicity of a chemical? To what extent do you agree with the assumption that "all substances are poisons"?
What is human exposure assessment? Explain some of the methods of exposure assessment.
Why is epidemiology important to research studies of environmental health? Give reasoning to support your answer.
What are some of the important limitations of the epidemiologic approach with respect to the study of environmental health problems?
Create a 3- to 4-page Microsoft Word document that includes the answers to the above questions.
Support your responses with reasoning and examples.
Cite any sources in APA format.
