Research a behavior that represents risky behaviors as children emerge from middle childhood to adolescence. Physical and Cognitive Changes in Adolescence

Describe the physical and cognitive changes that are important in understanding adolescent development. Address differences due to gender, sexual orientation, or culture that are discussed in the scholarly literature.

Case Study Analysis: Adolescence to Emerging Adulthood

For this assignment, you will complete an analysis of a case study that deals with one of the following stages of lifespan development: adolescence or emerging adulthood.

Select one of the following case studies from your Broderick and Blewitt textbook to complete an analysis of the developmental and contextual issues related to the selected case:

• Angela, page 436.

Each of the case studies includes a set of questions that can guide your analysis of the pertinent issues for the particular case.

Expectations

Address the following in your case study analysis:

• Analyze lifespan development theories to determine the most appropriate theory or theories to apply to the case study.
• Apply the appropriate lifespan development theory to support an identified intervention process.
• Describe the potential impact of individual and cultural differences on development for the current age and context described in the case study.
• Write in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for graduate-level composition and expression.

Emerging Adulthood

Describe theories and research that explain aspects of emerging adulthood, focusing on either relationships or the career/vocational context. What challenges does the research support, either in regard to young adults establishing or maintaining relationships, or in regard to deciding on a career?

For this task, you will prepare a brief reaction paper that addresses the following questions:

What is meant by the statement that substance abuse occurs on a continuum? Do you accept this idea, or do you think that there are fundamentally different characteristics which separate substance use from substance abuse or addiction?

The costs of substance use disorders in our society are significant. What are some of the specific contributing factors that are behind some of these costs?

Do you think that the problem of substance abuse is blown out of proportion by the media, or perhaps underreported? Explain your position.

Use at least three articles from peer-reviewed journals published in the past 5 years to support your points of view. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included. Note any ways that the critical thinking module helped clarify your thoughts.

Length: 5-7 pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Summary/Reflection Papers

For each theory discussed you will submit a paper with the following sections: 

I. Brief 3 or more sentences summary of theory 

II. Brief descriptions of major tenets of the theory (3 or more sentences per tenet)

III. Brief descriptions of common techniques of the theory (3 or more sentences per technique)

IV. Personal reflection/reaction to the theory (2 paragraphs)

V. Questions about the theory or its implementation (2 questions)

The first 3 sections will serve as a brief summary to which you may refer back in future courses, during practicum experiences, or when preparing for comps. The latter 2 sections are meant to help you process your reactions to each theory. Remember that you will have already summarized the theory in sections 1-3, so section 4 should focus on the thoughts and feelings that arose for you as you read the chapters associated with each theory. 

In a journal assignment, reflect on what you think is the biggest limitation to your research. How could the limitation be addressed in future research? Also, list important areas related to your topic that are still in need of further research.

Role of the Brain in Addiction

Select two models of addiction from the chart appearing on pages 24–25 in the Lewis text. Compare how each model addresses the brain changes (neurological effects) associated with using a substance (or gambling) to excess. (Note that the media pieces and optional articles may be helpful to aid your understanding of the role of the brain in addiction.) Consider the relative emphasis that each model places upon the role of physiological brain functions or changes to explain addiction. Make an educated prediction regarding how well the model can adapt to emerging developments in the neuroscience of addiction.

In this assignment, you will write an essay about the research methods and ethical implications of a social psychology study. You will get information about the study from one of the entries in the SPARQ "Solutions Catalog", which is a web site maintained by Stanford University at https://sparq.stanford.edu/solutions?&&. SPARQ is an acronym for "Social Psychological Answers to Real-world Questions." Each entry in the Solutions Catalog names a problem, and then offers a solution to that problem, based on a research study in social psychology. 

To keep this assignment short and manageable, your only sources for this assignment should be from the SPARQ site and your course materials, such as your textbook. There is no need for you to cite any of the course materials. Therefore, no additional citations or references are needed, beyond those from the SPARQ site. 

In this exercise, you will choose one of the entries in the SPARC site, and then write a two to three (2-3) page paper that meets the following requirements.
