    Business Management / Small Buisnesses

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, Indiana's small businesses employ about 50% of Indiana's private sector workforce. Please review the SBA's Fact Sheet on Indiana and assume Governor Holcomb has asked you to develop an economic policy that will assist in the formation and sustainability of small business in Indiana. Please discuss your suggestions to the Governor on how Indiana can become the top incubator for small business.

    Answer with 5-6 sentences.

    PHASE 5 IP

    PHASE 5 IP

Your executive vice president (EVP) has decided to restructure six of the current business units into one sector structure. He has asked you to put together two deliverables for his team to review.

    Part 1

You are to write an Executive Summary White Paper reflecting the benefits of the recommended change. Include the following in your white paper:

Short introduction about the alignment between organizational structure and organizational strategy

Productivity improvement analysis for each organizational structure option

Potential cost of each organizational structure option

    Potential schedule for the merger

    Your recommendation and why

    Part 2

For this part, you are to write a Change Proposal Paper of 2,500 words in which you reflect upon your recommendation from Part 1.

Your EVP is very excited to get started on the change plan for the business unit merger project that you recommended in your Executive Summary White Paper. Before he signs off on the launch date for the project, the EVP wants to see a proposed change plan. Each of the impacted six divisions have approximately 830 employees, and each are organized in the following functions:

    Project management

    Manufacturing operations

    Engineering

    Quality

    Information technology

    Human resources

    Accounting

    Public relations

    Procurement

He was very impressed with your ideas on a customer service organization and wants to include this new function in the new organization. The change plan should include the following:

    Assessments

Examples of the return on investment (ROI)

    Training required

Who will be involved in the full change planning

    Communication plan

Places for potential economies of scale in the merger

    Action plan

Schedule on the implementation of the new structure

He would also like to know what you need him and the other executive team members to do in support of this project.

What you learned about your client team in the previous change assignments is that they like to see charts with clear objective facts and the latest research in support of the ideas you are presenting in the documents that they review prior to the full team discussion. This is a critical project, so you will want to develop a standard list of questions to interview each of the seven executives to gather their input regarding this project. Be sure to build this diagnostic data collection into the overall project schedule.

    Making Decisions

    Making Decisions

Decisions are made on a daily basis within every position at every company.  Decisions regarding company policy can often create the conflicts that were discussed within last week's forum.  This week, we also read about making financial decisions within a company.  When making a decision that affects multiple departments within the company, it is important to think about the long-term benefits or challenges.  Think back over your professional life…discuss a decision that was made by your company that had an effect on you or your department directly.  What  challenges were created by this decision?  Was your company prepared for these challenges?  How was this decision communicated to the employees?  What could have been improved within this process?  While you are not required to formally cite your sources within the forum, you should make sure that you are incorporating information from the readings into your responses.  Your responses should clearly show that you have read the material.

You are talking with another student who is complaining about having to learn the systems development life cycle because he or she is not going to work in an IT department. Social Responsibility

      Social Responsibility

In this Project, you will have an opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of social responsibility concepts by preparing a corporate social responsibility program that will be included in your corporation's annual report.

      Deliverables

•A 1,000-word social responsibility program proposal

Activity Details  Perform the following steps:

Step 1: Read the scenario.  Northeastern Steel is a steel mill in Pittsburgh, Penn., that manufactures steel tubes used in industrial operations. The company has been in business since the 1930s. Over the past decade, Northeastern Steel has seen a decrease in its market share for steel tubes due to competition from other mills that have incorporated environmentally sustainable operations. To address the competition and the concerns of environmental and neighborhood groups that are upset over the amount of fumes released into the air, wastewater being released into an adjacent river and traffic into and out of the mill, you have been asked to include an appendix in the annual report regarding Northeastern Steel's social responsibility initiatives to alleviate the advocacy group's concerns, establish Northeastern Steel as a socially responsible entity, as well as provide financially sound reasons the company is undertaking these initiatives.

Step 2: Write a proposal.   Write a 1,000-word business proposal that will be read and considered by Northeastern Steel's shareholders. Explain the reasoning and specifics of Northeastern Steel's sustainability initiative, utilizing your learning of corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and the financial and competitive benefits of engaging in this program of corporate social responsibility.  Outline the corporation's social responsibility initiative: the reasons for undertaking these initiatives, the specific activities the corporation will undertake to become an environmentally sustainable corporation, and the benefits that undertaking this program will provide to shareholders, the corporation and the community.

        Project Management #

        Project Management #

Most students intuitively know more about project management than they realize. Through experiences at work, school, or in the community, almost every adult has either participated in and/or managed a project at one time or another.

Apply the concepts learned in chapter 1 and describe a project you have either participated in and/or managed.
A quality response will apply the components of the definition of a project; describe progress through the project life cycle; and reference quality of managing the scope, time and cost (the three project objectives).
