Religion In Colonial America

Religion In Colonial America

Now that you have completed the first part of our course, Religion in Colonial America, you are to select one of the following questions and submit a reasoned, researched, and documented answer by the end of this week. What primary factor(s) led to the establishment of religion in America? What influence, if any, did Native American religions have upon the religiosity of new world settlers? What changes occurred in Puritan religion as a result of the pilgrim immigration from Europe to North America? Was the "Great Awakening" truly "great" and an "awakening", or was it merely an attempt by historians to embellish religion in Colonial America? As you respond to the question, remember to support your answer with researched examples. This will be an important factor in your grade. Your response should be 1-2 pages long and include citations for any resources used. Your citations must reflect APA style.

    History Essay

    History Essay

    plMid-Term Essay Exam

Option 1: Did the upper classes and lower classes fight in WWI with the same expectations?  Which Americans, if any, benefited from the war?  Did anyone protest the war?  If so, who, why, and how?

Option 2: Did the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution bring a “new birth of freedom” as is often claimed?  If yes, how?  If not, why?

Your paper should be at least three pages (that means to the bottom of the third page). It must be double spaced and typed in 12 point Times New Roman font.

Begin with a strong thesis statement followed by relevant evidence from the readings and lecture. Cite Foner as (Foner pg.#); cite the Zinn documents by the author of the document of title if the author is anonymous, for example (Ginsburg 454);  and cite the presentations/lectures as Colling + lecture/slide #, e.g. (Colling 5/42).

Use at least three primary documents for evidence. These can be found in Zinn.  They are your choice, but you must use the primary documents as significant sources to make your case.  At the end of the essay, in one or two sentences, tell me why you chose these documents.

Do not plagiarize. If you use any sources other than Foner, Zinn, or the presentations, you will fail the exam.

Due Week 3 and worth 70 points
After the Civil War, the United States became a much more industrialized society. Between 1865 and 1920, industrialization improved American life in many ways. However, industrialization also created problems for American society. Consider events that took place after the Civil War and discuss ways that industrialization affected the U.S. between 1865 and 1920.
    Part 1:

    1. Write a thesis statement that is one to two (1-2) sentences long in which you:
      1. State your thesis on how industrialization after the Civil War influenced U.S. society, economy, and politics. Justify your response.
    2. For the first part of this assignment you will create a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your main idea to the reader. The body of the essay organizes the material you gather and present in support of your main idea. Keep in mind that a thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. (Note: Please consult the Purdue OWL Website with tips on how to construct a proper thesis; the website can be found at: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/545/01/
      Part 2:
For the next part of this assignment you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. This outline will serve as the basis for your Assignment 1.2 Final Draft. (Note: Please use the Purdue Owl Website to assist you with this assignment; this website can be accessed at: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/engagement/2/2/55/
    3. Write a one to two (1-2) page outline in which you:
      1. List three (3) major aspects of industrialization between 1865 and 1920.  In your response, consider society, the economy, and politics.
      2. List five (5) specific groups that were affected by industrialization. Provide two (2) examples for each group describing how the group was affected. (Consider issues such as race, ethnicity, gender, child labor, etc.)
      3. List five (5) ways that industrialization affected the life of the average working American during this period.
      4. Use at least three (3) academic references besides or in addition to the textbook. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
    4. Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
    • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
    • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, your name, your professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
    • The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
    • Identify and discuss the different ways that the Civil War, Reconstruction, and Industrialization after the Civil War have shaped America’s history.
    • Summarize and discuss the ways that formal policies of government have influenced the direction of historical and social development in the United States.
    • Recognize the major turning points in American history since the Civil War.
    • Use technology and information resources to research issues in contemporary U.S. history.
    • Write clearly and concisely about contemporary U.S. history using proper writing mechanics.

    ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR

PROJECT OBJECTIVES To complete this project, you must

    1. Conduct research to

    a. Define the concept of emotional labor

    b. Describe, explain, and discuss perspectives on emotional labor in general as well as in different workplace settings

    2. Conduct limited field research aimed at assessing varying understandings and experiences of emotional labor in at least three work settings

    3. Analyze and summarize findings from your field research

    4. Prepare a term paper on the topic of emotional labor in workplace settings, using both your field research and your background research as you do so

INSTRUCTIONS Before you begin, read through this entire procedure. Then, follow these steps to com- plete your project:

    1. Create your own working definition of emotional labor. Your definition should include likely effects of emotional labor, such as fatigue, workplace stress, anxiety, and alienation. Use your definition to guide your field research and clarify your thinking prior to beginning work on your term paper.

    2. Use the following sources to conduct background research. Note: You must use all of these sources for your project.

    a. Your textbook, Organizational Behavior, page 82

    b. Online sources

    3. Prepare a survey for interviewing people in various work settings. On the survey, leave room for notes you take during or immediately following your interview with any subject. Although you may add questions of your own, include the following questions on your survey:

    a. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your satisfaction with your job?

    b. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your satisfaction with your present workplace environment?

    c. Are you expected to present yourself in certain ways to customers (patients, passengers, clients, and so on)?

    d. If so, how are you expected to present yourself? To help the interviewee answer this question, you may ask one or more of the following questions:

n Are you expected to follow a sales script?

n Are you expected to “up-sell” special offers?

n Are you instructed to always be polite?

    ■ Are you expected to encourage and support patients?

n Are you supposed to smile when you would prefer to scream or frown?

    e. Do you feel stress when you feel one way and have to pretend you feel another way? Can you give me examples?

    f. When you feel some kind of work stress, can you tell me how you feel about it? (If interviewees need help answering this question, you may ask, “Does stress make you feel tired? Frustrated? Amused? Irritable? Sad?”)

    4. Follow these guidelines for conducting your research:

    a. Interview people in at least three different work settings. Your subjects might include fast-food workers, bus or taxi drivers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, sanitation workers, bank tellers, airline flight attendants, public school teachers, paramedics, and social workers—to offer some examples.

    b. Interview at least two people from each work setting.

    c. To find individuals to interview, begin making contacts through people you know.

    d. During the interview, complete the surveys yourself. Don’t ask the subjects to fill out the forms.

    e. Before beginning an interview, tell each subject that his or her responses will be anonymous. Indeed, it’s advisable to create fictitious names for particular work venues, for the subjects themselves, and for any persons mentioned by the subjects. Also, inform each subject that your written report is for a course, and that it won’t be published anywhere.

    f. Allow your respondents to speak freely. Don’t allow your survey form to keep you from taking notes on unexpected comments, observations, and informa- tion provided by the subjects. In other words, keep an open mind.

    g. Don’t record an interview on any electronic device, such as a tape recorder, cell phone, or camcorder, without the express permission of the subject. If you do record any interview, destroy or delete any such information upon completion of your research project.

    5. Prepare a five- to eight-page term paper based on your research. Draft your paper on the basis of your back-ground reading and your field research. Edit and revise your draft prior to submitting it to your instructor.

PAPER SPECIFICATIONS 1. Prepare your paper for electronic submission in a word-processing program.

    2. Prepare a title page with the following information:

    a. Title: Emotional Labor in the Workplace

    b. Your name

    c. Your student number

    d. Course title: Organizational Behavior

    e. Project number: 50048200

    f. Current date

    3. Double-space your paper, with left and right margins of 1 to 1.25 inches, flush left and ragged right.

    4. Provide adequate source citations.

    5. Include a header on each page except the title page. In the header, include your name, student number, and the page number.

    6. Do not plagiarize. The direct usage of materials from any source without proper and accurate credit is plagiarism. Be sure to properly attribute direct quotes and paraphrases. If you plagiarize in any way or to any degree, your term paper will receive a failing grade.

    7. Use the following outline as a suggested guide for the structure of your paper:

    a. Introduction. Summarize your paper. Briefly describe what the paper is about and how you went about writing it.

© PENN FOSTER, INC. 2017 PAGE 5ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR Research Project

    b. Emotional Labor: Psychological Stress in the Workplace. Describe emo- tional labor, including various perspectives on its nature and its psychological costs. The material for this section should come mainly from your background research.

    c. Interviews. Explain what you learned from your interviews. Include anecdotal material to engage the reader and, to a limited extent, offer your interpreta- tions and impressions.

    d. Summary and conclusion. Discuss your overall impressions, your view on the causes of emotional labor, and perhaps, how it might be managed or reduced.

    8. Submit the final draft of your paper to your instructor.

GRADING CRITERIA Your project will be graded on the following criteria:

n Presentation style (20 percent). The student uses a consistent point of view throughout, employs accurate and appropriate word and concept usage, and has few, if any, digressions. The paper is easy to read.

n Development of concepts and themes (40 percent). The paper is developed accurately and coherently from background sources. The Interviews section is coherently related to the background sources.

n Organization of writing (20 percent). The material proceeds logically, topic sen- tences are well placed, and paragraph breaks are appropriate.

n Grammar and usage (20 percent). The student uses complete and grammatically correct sentences with no spelling errors. Descriptions, explanations, and asser- tions are clearly worded.

4-31. Millbridge Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive physical exams. The charge per exam is $100, while the variable cost per exam is $65. Thirty percent of the patients who come in for an exam are private pay. They must pay the full charge. Seventy percent of the patients are covered by an insurance company that has an agreement with the hospital that reduces the charge by 20%. The hospital has $210,000 in fixed costs per year. How many exams must the hospital provide in order to break even?

4-32. The fixed costs of running a fund-raising dinner for Meals for the Homeless are $10,000 and the variable costs are $75 per attendee. The facility where the event is being held can accommodate 500 people. Answer the following questions about the event:

    1. If Meals charged $275 per ticket, how many people would have to attend the gala for the organization to break even on the event?

    2.

    2. If Meals charged $300 per ticket, the contribution margin from each ticket sold would be: __________.

    3. If 500 people attend the event, how much does the organization have to charge each attendee to earn a profit of $100,000? (Assume costs from original problem are still in effect.)

4-33. A Greener World expects to have $15,000 in fixed costs. If its fixed costs do not change but the amount each marcher raises through pledges declines from $55 to $50 and its variable cost/unit increases from $25 to $30, how much will its break even quantity increase?

4-34. The Helensville Symphony incurs $3,000,000 of fixed costs each year. The variable cost for each person attending one of the orchestra’s performances is $24. If the average charge for a ticket to attend a performance of the Helensville Symphony is $100, how many tickets must it sell each year to break even?

4-35. Mill bridge Family Services (MFS) currently operates a foster care program that is fully funded by the state. Changing government priorities are expected to result in a 20% reduction in its state foster care funding for the upcoming fiscal year. MFS’s management is considering eliminating the foster care program in the next fiscal year in light of these anticipated funding cuts. The total foster care program expenses for the upcoming fiscal year is $120,000. The foster care program’s budgeted expenses include $25,000 of salaries and occupancy costs that are allocated to its program budget from MFS central administration. These allocated expenses of $25,000 are unavoidable even if the foster care program is eliminated. What is the total relevant cost that should be considered in making this decision?

    Answer the following questions:

    1. Prepare a monthly operating budget for the DMV for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2014. Determine the operating surplus and deficit for each month and for the year as a whole. Use one page or worksheet in your spreadsheet to list all of the base information, and another for the operating budget. (Hint: It may be easier to prepare the budget if you add a third page or worksheet to calculate the number of transactions each month.)

NOTE: Students may access a 60-day trial version and/or purchase the required Microsoft software at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj192782.aspx. The Microsoft trial version can only be downloaded one time.

    2. To what do you attribute the changing surplus/deficit pattern during the year?

    3. What would happen to the overall deficit or surplus if the number of vehicles failing inspections increased from 15% to 30%? Keep in mind that vehicles must be re-inspected, so this would also increase the total number of inspections. Does this give the DMV a reason to make its standards tougher? Is this good policy?

    4. Suppose the DMV can decide when to implement the new digitized licensing system.

    a. What would happen to the finances of the DMV if the new licenses are implemented at the beginning of the year and issued throughout the year?

    b. What would happen if the new licenses are not implemented at all during the coming year? In either case, assume the total number of licenses issued for any month does not change. Is that assumption realistic? How does it affect your results?

    5. What other changes would you suggest that might help the DMV’s situation? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the various suggested changes? Select an approach that you believe is best, create a worksheet showing the resulting budget, and provide an explanation defending your choice of changes.

    CIS 210 Discussion Question

    CIS 210 Discussion Question

    Solving Business Problems

The textbook elaborates several systems analysis approaches for solving a business problem. Please respond to the following in not more than 250 words:

    • Identify which systems analysis method you prefer, and why.

part 2: Then, follow up in substantive posts of up to 200 words to one or more of your fellow students who prefer a different method.

Support your positions with explanations and/or sources, as appropriate, but do not quote. (choose 1)

    a.

I prefer the easy method as I do not like to work and re-work my efforts so I would go with the agile system. After reviewing this week's lesson throughout all problem solving steps or solutions the agile method is the most suitable option. I found task that requires multiple sources, links or research have struggled at all levels of understanding or rather retention. If I am able to operate with a system or method that allows a group effort with effective results in agile which tracks, manages and build from a previous system. This cuts on production time which is a faster means of operating within a frame of a team. This means creates easy access, important topic to focus on is the tactical and technical proficiency between system and manpower. Bringing both entities together to promote business growth with sound problem solving ability. I look forward to the next assignment.

    b.

After reviewing the methods described in the textbook I have chosen JAD or Join Application Development as a method I would prefer.  This method has the most advantages when it comes to long-term success for any given project.  Although it takes longer to set up it seems to yield the best results.  I like the fact that it relies heavily on user input and feedback throughout the process.  All the projects that I have participated in seem to have one common factor, they’re always fluid and changing JAD seems to be able to adjust to the constant changes from all parties involved.  It also seems that the increased participation and documentation limits risk and the blaming that goes on after a project takes a bad turn.  It is very thorough and gives clear instruction on the goals and progress at all stages, with all members so informed there is little chance of different parties coming forth later to state they had a better idea.   Also with the budget being as important as it always is smaller goals broken down and studied you would have tighter control over the expenditures.  The only downside I could see is that it might not be cost effective for smaller companies as it requires more specialized people that smaller companies would have to hire.

    c.

The method that i read about and prefer is the RAD method. I like the option of using all ideas of a new system coming from multiple people within the organization. Getting ideas from everyone that uses the current system and using those ideas to make and install a new one. The RAD method also is used from start to finish to make overall time implementing a new system shorter.

    CIS 210 Discussion Question

    Workflow:

Please respond to the following in not more than 200 words:

    • Summarize your experience developing a workflow for the clothing store.
    • Which aspects did you find the easiest, and which were the most challenging for you?
    •

    Part 2:

Then, in a separate post, follow up on one  of your fellow students in a substantive post of up to 150 words that further the discussion. For example, you may support or politely challenge a post with your own insights or experience, make a suggestion, or ask probing follow-up questions.

possible posts to reply to: (choose only 1)

    1. RE:

After this weeks assignment I realize the work flow of clothing is much more complex than it appears to be. Understanding that having the necessary materials such as clothing in bulk with different sizes, a bar code scanner, employees, application software which will allow a business or organization operate in a daily, week, monthly and year schedule. Having the required means to run a business and maintain a solid work flow is basically handling the enterprise. Identifying a good vendor to purchase merchandise. Understanding the net and gross income for both employees, overhead, utilities and replacement of assets. I look forward to the next assignment thanks in advanced!

    2. RE:

My first draft of the workflow was very basic.  After reading the course material from last week and putting more thought into what it takes to manage inventory, I revisited the workflow and added what was missing.  I tried not to overthink the process by adding too much but I believe what I provided sufficed.

I don't believe any aspect was easy.  I found the entire creation of the assignment challenging.

I started by creating one event and three processes but more than that was needed to fulfill the entire workflow.   The most challenging part was determining the equipment that was needed.  There was no information to determine what infrastructure or equipment existed, so an assumption was made, and the choice of equipment was determined that would grow with the business.  I also found to add more equipment as I put myself in the shoes of the business owner who makes the sales transactions from within the store.

    or 3.  RE:

    Hi DR Hofkin

When I thought about small business store I feel 2,000 would be her profit but I feel that 3,000 would be a good round figure for the type of system she needs

This would give her all the program she needs to budget her business finances and manage her inventory. And would help with automated ordering the amount of ram I feel would be a good start with the 3  T bite and a dual-core processor.

I learn in time more memory is better than not having enough memory I run my business and I got 4 gigs of ram it seems like enough but I feel it might not be.

With excel I feel it’s a good it’s a good program even so she would have to manually put in the data.

With the maintain program I recommend that she do will help he computer preform good and fast.
