305-WK8

305-WK8

Every teacher has his/her own method of grading, at least within some aspects of it, and this variance is often tied into a personal philosophy on grading. In other words, teachers give grades based on what they personally think the purpose of grading is, on what they find important to grade on, on what they want the grade to reflect from the student, etc.

For this assignment, you are to come up with your own general philosophy on grading. The response should be a minimum of 500 words and should use APA formatting (title page, double spacing, running head, page numbers, and reference page/in-text citations if outside sources were used).

  • Within the philosophy, the following components should be addressed:
  • What do you think that the purpose of grading in general should be?
  • What do you hope to achieve by providing these grades to students, yourself, parents, etc.?
  • What do you feel are the most important criteria to use for grading? Why do you feel this way?
  • Do you think that student effort should be a variable in grading? Why or why not?
  • Within your grading approach, would you use absolute grading, relative grading, or aptitude-based grading? Why did you choose this approach?

WHY U NEED THIS COMPUTER

WHY U NEED THIS COMPUTER

Write a 1-2 page paper (double spaced – you don't need references or cites or anything, but it DOES need to be your own work) explaining to yourself, your significant other, your mom, your kid – whomever….that you NEED this computer.  "It's an awesome computer" just won't do.  You need to really convince this person that this computer is vital to your success in some way or another.  You can find the computer here:

Caine’s Arcade

Caine’s Arcade

Caine is a 9-year-old boy whose afterschool and weekend project turned into an international imagination movement. As the Caine’s Arcade video explains, Caine built a gaming arcade almost entirely out of cardboard and opened it up for business in the storefront of his father’s auto parts store. This story provides an excellent example of how characteristics of Caine’s personal identity might affect how and what he learned from the specific experiences portrayed. The video story identifies the cultural values that nurtured Caine’s curiosity and inventiveness, and you can readily analyze the factors contributing to his “funds of knowledge” going into the project. After viewing Caine’s amazing story, reflect on the different skills he learned and applied as he completed his “project,” and consider how his personal identity shaped, and was shaped by, his amazing experiences. To help you better understand the underlying influences affecting Caine’s learning experiences, read Chapter 7 of your primary text.

This chapter presents information and examples associated with how social class can have an influence on student achievement and behavior in school. You also need to read the article by Moll, Amanti, Neff, and Gonzales (1992) regarding Funds of Knowledge about how family and cultural backgrounds impact students and their families.

Initial Post: View the Caine’s Arcade video and construct an initial discussion post that addresses the following questions:

  • What external factors influenced Caine’s ability to successfully create his arcade (e.g., what role did his father play in encouraging his project?)?
  • What internal factors influenced Caine’s ability to successfully create his arcade? Consider his world view, values, and funds of knowledge as internal factors.
  • How valuable do you think these skills are in the real world? How well do they align with one or more of the 21st-century skills identified on the Framework for 21st Century Learning web page?

Unit 3 Assignment: Self-Concept And Perception Essay

Unit 3 Assignment: Self-Concept And Perception Essay

We develop notions of who we are and are not in our interactions with others from the time we are born until the time we die. Dr. George Herbert Meade explains that there are two specific types of perspectives which shape our notion of who and what we are, which includes the perspective of the particular other and generalized others (Wood, 2016). Self-concept will also shape communication choices and the perceptions related to how we think and feel about the world. As ethical communicators it becomes important to monitor the influence of our own self-concept and perceptions on our communication choices.

For the Unit 3 Assignment, you will craft a 3–4 page expository essay (including a title page and reference page) highlighting how your self-concept and perceptions influence your interpersonal communication. Include the following in your essay:

  • Describe self-concept.
  • Explain the role self-concept plays in ethical communication.
  • Describe your self-concept and whether it is generally positive or negative.
  • Explain how you can ethically influence the self-concept of others.
  • Explain the difference between self-concept and perception.
  • Describe an example of when your self-concept influenced your perceptions of someone. Explain how this impacted your communication with that person. Explain whether this was a positive influence or negative influence and why.
  • Explain at least two guidelines for improving perception and communication from the reading that you can apply to your ethical communication skills. Include what are the guidelines, one example of how you would apply a guideline, and why these guidelines help with effective communication.

Your paper should include a reference to the textbook. APA formatting and in-text citations must be used for a minimum of three sources including your text. When referencing the readings, be sure to use APA guidelines. Information regarding APA formatting and citation can be found in the Writing Center and should be reviewed thoroughly. Below is a link to the document:

https://kucampus.kaplan.edu/MyStudies/AcademicSupportCenter/WritingCenter/WritingReferenceLibrary/ResearchCitationAndPlagiarism/CommonCitationsInAPAformat.aspx

Your paper should include a highly developed viewpoint and purpose.

Your paper should demonstrate superior organization. Communication should be highly ordered, logical, and unified.
