Describe the medical care issues involved in this situation.

Write a 1,250-1,500 word paper in which you address the ethical and legal application in the following scenario:

Scenario: You are a hospital administrator who has been told by your ICU unit director of a patient in the unit who has suffered serious brain damage from a car accident 2 days ago and is currently intubated. The patient is 45 years old but does not currently meet the criteria for complete brain death as defined by Arizona state legislature “4-1107. Determination of Death and Status; Rules.” The spouse of the patient has consulted with the attending physician. The attending physician informed the spouse that the patient could survive but would likely require life support. Half of the family is insisting that the patient “wouldn’t want to live this way” and the other half is accusing the other family members of wanting to “kill” the patient. Some allegations have been raised about a substantial inheritance for some family members upon the patient’s death. The battle is becoming intense, and it is beginning to disrupt the medical and nursing staff.

  1. Describe the medical care issues involved in this situation.
  2. Explain which laws and regulations apply to this situation. How would you interpret these laws and regulations when making a decision?
  3. Describe the ethical issues that may arise based on your decision as the administrator.
  4. Explain how you can ensure appropriate implementation of supporting policies and procedures in order to ensure ethical integrity.
  5. What policies and procedures would you consider when making your decision? How would you ensure these procedures were followed correctly?
  6. What resources could you use to support your decision?

Liberty Challenged in Nineteenth Century America Thesis and Outline

America became a free independent nation. With the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, the former mother country, England, recognized that its children, the colonies, were now on their own. A constitutional republic was birthed, and thus the challenges began. Slavery, the “Peculiar Institution,” was a monumental issue facing the country. Would it die or would it survive and possibly take a nation divided with it? This sectionalism followed Americans up into the Civil War. Dissect this crisis by addressing parts I and II below.

For the next part of this assignment you will create an outline of the main points you want to address in this paper. This will serve as the basis for your Assignment 2.2 Final Draft. (Note: Please use the Purdue Owl website to assist you with this assignment; this website can be accessed at: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/engagement/2/2/55/.)

Part 1:

  1. Write a thesis statement that is one to two (1-2) sentences long in which you:
    1. State your thesis on the significance of this slavery issue, as exemplified in your research. Justify your response.

For the first part of this assignment you will create a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your main idea to the reader. The body of the essay organizes the material you gather and present in support of your main idea. Keep in mind that a thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. (Note: Please consult the Purdue OWL website with tips on how to construct a proper thesis; the website can be found at: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/545/01/.)

2. Write a one to two (1-2) page outline in which you:

  1. Describe two (2) outcomes of the 3/5ths Compromise, Missouri Compromise of 1820, Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Dred Scott Decision. Note: Be sure to provide two (2) outcomes for each legislation.
  2. Suggest three (3) reasons why slavery was and is incompatible with our political and economic system.
  3. List three to five (3-5) driving forces that led to the Civil War.
  4. Use at least three (3) academic references besides or in addition to the textbook. Note:Wikipedia and other similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.

I think the best things I can do is know my students so that I know what they need.  If my students are having issues with language and understanding, I would want to make sure that I had a ELS teacher there to help them.  I think by knowing your students you learn to know what they need to be successful.  I also think communication is key to helping students.  According to McKeachie & Svinicki (2014), ” The bread and butter of teaching is the act of communication as a two-way interactional process. You as the instructor usually communicate verbally. Students also communicate, not only when you ask them a question, but also non-verbally when they are listening” (p.12).  Students who may not understand may look away or down making it look like they are not interested in what is being said.  This may not be true.  It is possible that the students are not understanding so it will be important for me to communicate with my students and watch for clues that tell me something isn’t right.  It is also important for me to know about my students culture so that I am able to help them with issues that could hinder their learning experience.  It will also be important for me that my classroom remains a safe and unbias place where racism and bullying will not be tolerated.  I want to set an example for my students by showing them what it means to embrace other cultures.  I want them to see the differences in each other and celebrate those differences.  i do not want my students to fear differences.  I will also add visual aids into my learning so that students who have a hard time learning by lecture will also have visual cues to help them.  I will also use computer programs with close captions to help students who may be hearing impaired.  i want to set my students up for success, so by utilizing different learning styles I can incorporate all learners.

What are the rules are for standing in the elevator?

Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your peers’ posts by comparing your responses to their own. Extend their thinking by offering possible implications for teaching they may have overlooked.

Kim Spiegel

  • What are the rules are for standing in the elevator? Where do people stand when there are only two or three people? What happens when a fourth person enters the elevator.

The rules are that people need to remain standing at all times, so there is enough room in the elevator for everyone.  The people in the elevator must remain at least 2 feet apart so that everyone has some personal space.  If there are only 2 or 3 people then there can be 3 ft or more.  Once the fourth person enters the elevator people will need to abide by the 2 ft apart rule.

  • How would you feel if there were two people on the elevator and a third person entered and stood right next to you?

If there were only 2 people on the elevator and the third person stood right next to me I would probable move over in order to get more space.

  • What happens when the elevator becomes more crowded and there are now four or more people?

If there are 4 or more people on the elevator I would ask everyone to make room and try to space themselves out as much as possible so that everyone can maximize the amount of space they have.

  • How close will people stand? What is allowed to “touch?”

People will need to stand as close as possible to allow everyone in the elevator.  Nothing is allowed to touch if possible.

  • What do people look at in a crowded elevator?

People look at the ceiling of the elevator or each other.

  • When is it permissible to talk to the other people?

People are allowed to talk to each other at any time, but only one person may speak so others do not have to talk over someone else.

My answer to question one was different.  I did not ask the people in the elevator to lean against the wall, but to just provide enough space so that everyone has their own bubble.  I didn’t feel like the people in the elevator needed to be told exactly where to stand, but to just allow for room.

In question three again I did not feel like I needed to tell others how to hold their briefcases and where to stand.  Since I didn’t know these people they may not have responded well to me telling them how they needed to stand in an elevator.

In question 5 I think that people are interested in other people and when I am in an elevator with people I do not know I look at them.  I do not stare at them, but I find people interesting so I may look.  When i do not want to be bothered I look at the ceiling until the elevator stops.

In question 6 I am very outgoing and sometimes I like to strike up a conversation about the weather or just engage in small talk.  I wouldn’t be loud, but I might smile or talk to my neighbor.

(I will message you my work, so you can compare it)
