The “link between social conditions, lifestyles, and health” (page 13) is taken for granted today, but was a pretty revolutionary way of thinking even as late as 25 years ago. Today, some believe that improving the living conditions of the poor (including children in lower income households), is absolutely necessary to maintain a healthy population. In contrast, others object for a variety of reasons. What do you think, and why?

Critical Thinking

Provide an example from your own experience where you acted in accordance with one or more of the patterns of irrational or unethical decision making. Explain the egocentrism or sociocentrism, as well as any pathological tendencies of mind, involved in your thought process. How could you have applied the keys to sound decision making to approach the situation more rationally? 

If you prefer not to discuss your own decision making experience, you may instead discuss someone you know, a historical figure, or a fictional character. 

Your response should be at least two pages in length and should be typed using 12-point Times New Roman font.

Addiction Self Awareness Paper

Addiction Self Awareness Paper (10 points)        The goal of this paper is for students to summarize and synthesize their experience, and perceptions of addictions, addictive behaviors and the individuals, families and communities affected by addiction. This information will not be shared, only the professor will read this paper. This will count toward your class participation grade and will be due in Week 3 per the class schedule.      Directions        Students are encouraged to write a personal reflective paper about their use or lack thereof of drugs and addictive behaviors. Students will also discuss how drugs, alcohol, and other addictive behaviors have influenced, or not, their life, family, friends and community.  Students are to use the statements and questions below as guidelines in writing this paper, however students do not need to feel limited to these guidelines. Choose one factor that you think is the most responsible for causing addiction (choose one that most closely aligns with your belief about addiction). Thoroughly describe this factor in your response and the impact it may have on the individual.  All citations should be referenced in APA Style.

Psychology-Statistics

1. A psychology professor of a large class became curious as to whether the students who turned in tests first scored differently from the overall mean on the test. The overall mean score on the test was 75 with a standard deviation of 10; the scores were approximately normally distributed. The mean score for the first 20 students to turn in tests was 78. Using the .05 significance level, was the average test score earned by the first 20 students to turn in their tests significantly different from the overall mean?

Special Challenges Military Members Face

APUS’ student body is composed of roughly 85% active or reserve component military personnel.  A number of military spouses are also enrolled as students.  Based upon your readings this week, what are some special challenges that military members face as they navigate relationships and marriages?  What effect do lengthy deployments have on romantic relationships?  What about infidelity?  If you are a civilian student without first-hand knowledge of this topic, use this week’s readings and your own research to guide you.
