CLA 2 Comprehensive learning Assessment

By using the data (up to the year 2018) your textbook, LIRN-based research, a general reference list in international Economics, such as: Specialized Journals (p.12); General Journals (p.13); Sources of International Data (p.13); General Current information p.14) and the Internet Sources (p. 14), for Euro zone countries (excluding Malta and Cyprus) discuss the impact of the following factors in bringing about the Euro crises:

1- Budget deficits and national debt

2- Balance of payments

3- Social expenditures

Using graphs compare the above factors for the countries in trouble, PIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain) vs. other countries in the Euro zone like Germany and France that fared well and contrast which of the above factors may have contributed to the crisis.

The fact that all these countries were using a single currency and did not have the power to devalue their own currency could be another factor you need to consider when analyzing this issue.

Analysis On Food Security

Assignment 2: Analysis on Food Security

Due Week 7 and worth 110 points

The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth.  They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further  issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked  you to consider:

The  member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can  provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere,  every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective  and nutritional agricultural practices. The  crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to  that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to  governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain  control of the population and their power by limiting access to  nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby  “weaponize” food.

Your  second project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop an  analysis that addresses three issues related to global food insecurity  caused by global population growth and poverty, and to explore these  issues in a developing country of your choosing.

The UN has given you the following guidelines.

Content

The  UN has asked that your paper contain three sections. Each section  should be one page (or approximately 300 words) in length and answer  specific questions, identified in the outline below. It also asks that  you use examples from your developing country when answering the  questions.

Introduction

Provide an introduction of half a page minimum that addresses points a-e below.

  1. Explains the problem the UN has asked you to address in your own words;
  2. Identifies the three sections your paper will cover;
  3. Identifies the developing country you will consider;
  4. Tells the UN the causes of food insecurity; and
  5. Provides a one-sentence statement of your solutions at the end of your introduction paragraph.

Section I. Background

  1. What is food insecurity?
  2. What role does population growth play in food security?

Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security

  1. What forms of technology can be used to reduce hunger and improve food security?
  2. How would these technological solutions work?
  3. What causes of food insecurity do these technologies address?

Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country

  1. Considering  the causes of food insecurity, what factors interrupt the flow of food  from the source to the people in the developing country you selected?

            Conclusion

  • Provide  a conclusion of half a page minimum that includes a summary of your  findings that the United Nations can use to inform future policy  decisions.

Success Tips

  • In answering each question, use examples from your developing country to illustrate your points.
  • The  UN needs facts and objective analysis on which to base future policy  decisions; avoid personal opinion and make sure your answers are based  on information you find through research.

Formatting Requirements

  • Make sure your paper consists of four to six pages of content (or 1,200 words minimum, not including the cover or reference pages).
  • Create headings for each section of your paper as follows:
    • Section I. Background
    • Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security
    • Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country
  • Use and cite at least five credible sources in your research. A list of potential resources is available below.
  • Make sure your paper contains both in-text citations and a source list, per SWS guidelines: Refer to the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS) document for reference.
  • Include a cover page with your name, the country you selected, the date you submitted the paper, and your instructor’s name.

Should taxpayers be the ones responsible for the costs associated with construction of the facilities through increased taxes?

The original question is the first paragraph. The response is needed from the students post below.

course text and lesson for this unit discusses strategies that local governments and cities employ to promote economic development. Prominent strategies include the courting of professional sports franchises and the financing of new sports facilities (stadiums, arenas, etc.). Do you think that building new sports facilities is a good strategy for promoting economic development? Should taxpayers be responsible for paying for the construction costs, for example, tax increases that are earmarked for facility construction? Why, or why not?

Response to this students post.

Overall, I do not think constructing new sports facilities is the answer for promoting economic development. For one, I think this strategy is geared more towards larger metropolitan cities. These cities are well-known and can offer more than just a sport. For instance, the City of Miami – they are a metropolitan city which offers many tourist attractions such as beaches, museums, parks, zoos, and so much more. So adding another attraction for tourists such as a sports facility makes sense. The facility will drive tourist to the location, but it will further drive tourists in conjunction with all the other attractions they have to offer. These facilities are in areas that are surrounded by local population as well as tourist populations which will equally contribute to its success through attending various sporting events. If you consider using this strategy in a smaller city that is surrounded by other smaller cities you will have a small population of people attending sporting events that live locally. Additionally, if these smaller cities don’t have as much to offer for tourists, they are less desirable for travelers to come out to the area. Therefore, in smaller cities, they are more likely to fail than succeed in the sporting industry.

Should taxpayers be the ones responsible for the costs associated with construction of the facilities through increased taxes? In my personal opinion, I do not see how this is a fair option without being voted on by the taxpaying community. Additionally, if this route is sought after, there should be substantial surveys and studies done that can contribute to ensuring the success of the establishment. I think the proper way of paying for the construction costs is through the utilization of investing funds and/or guaranteed loans from the local agency. Or better yet, maybe a combination of these funding strategies. However, the most important conclusion is that any surtax from citizens should be by referendum.

Final Portfolio Assignment (Due Week 7)

TOPIC:  Have men contributed to gender inequality?

Overview

One of the most crucial components of this course is developing a research project from conceptualizing a research problem and developing a number of measurement and statistical analysis approaches to bring evidence to bear on the problem.  Throughout the class, you created a research study based on publicly available data from the General Social Survey (GSS).  You chose data which were representative of your interests and satisfied your research question and hypotheses.

This Assignment meets these course objectives:

1. Describe and apply the concepts and logic of elementary statistics.

2. Conduct statistical analysis in SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).

3. Compare and contrast different types of data and the statistics that can be used to analyze them

4. Examine the differences between descriptive and inferential statistics and their use in the social sciences.

5. Form critical interpretations of quantitative research literature in sociology and other social sciences.

6. Complete and interpret descriptive and inferential statistical data analysis

7. Critically evaluate the quality of research design and evidence in published social research.

Instructions

The Final Portfolio Assignment is where you pull together the research you’ve been working on the first seven weeks of class.  Using your weekly Forum posts, and the feedback from your classmates and instructor on your posts, construct a 6-8 page paper that fully explores your research topic in a way that provides the context and explanation surrounding the analyses provided in the paper.  Your project should display you understand what you are writing about holistically, not simply going through the motions.

Citing literature about your research topic, be sure to set the stage for the data and analyses that you present.  Briefly describe the General Social Survey as your survey instrument.  Provide the questions, verbatim, that were asked in the survey which became the variable which you chose to use.  You will also need to include the answer choices for each of them.  This portion can be a table if you choose.  Share and explain frequency table(s) an histograms or graphs to describe your data.  Using the statistical tests you ran each week in class (crosstabs, tests of significance, measures of association), present the tests and your findings.  Clearly identify and explain your hypothesis and the five steps of hypothesis testing as they apply to your paper. Explain the results of the statistical tests and pull in some literature to provide context, demonstrating how your results and research fit into the larger body of literature on this topic.  Be sure to use proper APA formatting for citations and references. However, you do not need to include an abstract or table of contents.  You can find guidance in APA by clicking here to access the Purdue Online Writing Lab.

Because the project is a formal, you should include a title page and reference page. You may organize the paper based on the following headings:

Introduction – Introduce the topic based in current literature (briefly – show why it is important to study). Discuss why you chose the topic and what the purpose of the paper is. Give a brief overview of what you will cover.

Literature Review – Review 3-4 peer-reviewed sources that provide a background on your topic. These sources don’t have to specifically address the relationship between your IV and DV, but should address the topic and be somewhat related to your variables.

Methods – Briefly discuss the GSS (information you included in Assignment 1) as your data source. Identify and describe your specific variables, including the name, question, and responses (categories). You may state your hypothesis here, but do not go through the hypothesis testing steps until the next section.

Findings – Begin with a discussion of each variable individually, utilizing your frequency tables and charts/graphs. Then discuss your other analyses in logical order. Crosstabs are your first look at a potential relationship. Next, discuss the steps of hypothesis testing. Include the table of your significance test. Last, discuss the strength and direction of the relationship using measures of association.

Discussion – Discussion what you learned from the various analyses and draw any conclusions you found. Talk about any further research you think may be needed on your topic.

RESPOND TO THESE STUDENT POSTS

Marcella post

The STDs that can be cured are Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Bacterial Vaginosis, Trichomoniasis, Zika Virus and most recently Hepatitis C virus.  Within the past decade a medication was introduced that has been able to create a “sustained virologic response (SVR): you are considered cured if the Hepatitis C virus is not detected when measured with a blood test three months after you’ve completed treatment” (Treating Hepatitis C, 2017). STDs that can only be treated are HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, HPV and Genital Herpes.  With the uncurable but treatable STDs, there is always the risk of being contagious even if the person with the STD does not appear to have any symptoms of the STD at the time of sexual activity and relations.

The most effective method to prevent the spread of STDs is to abstain from sexual activity.  If abstinence is not part of a person’s lifestyle, getting tested regularly for STDs and using condoms is the second-best preventative measure to avoid contracting an STD or spreading one to a partner if a person is infected.

If a person is diagnosed with an STD they should seek the appropriate treatment, notify the local health department of the diagnosis (if the diagnosing physician has not done so already) and notify any sexual partners that may have been exposed to the STD through sexual contact with the infected person.  A person should also take preventative measures such as abstaining from sexual activity or only having protected sex with condoms to avoid the risk of infecting anyone else with the diagnosed STD.

 Takila post

STDs, also known as sexually transmitted diseases, are contracted mostly from anal, sexual or oral sex. You can also contract something by sharing items such as clothes, toothbrushes, razors, needles, etc. There are various diseases such as HIV, gonorrhea, genital warts, trichomoniasis, genital herpes, syphilis, etc. HIV and herpes can’t be cured but it can be managed. Other STDs such as chlamydia, syphilis,  gonorrhea, pubic lice/”crabs”, Trichomoniasis can be cured. The most effective ways to avoid contracting STDs is abstinence, going to the doctor for regular check ups, having one partner that you trust that don’t have multiple partners. You should immediate go to a health care provider if you’re diagnosed with STD in order to be treated properly.

What Does Informatics Mean?

Why is Informatics important to a Practice Nurse? Well, if you have noticed, you can’t walk into a health care facility anymore without seeing computers on the desk, in the hallways and at the bedside. Informatics is defined as the use of information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making. We use informatics every time we send an email or document in a medical record. We use informatics when we search the literature for the best evidence to solve a problem in health care. And, we use informatics to protect our patients by having electronic tools that help us to prevent errors. As you might imagine, informatics is a prevalent and vital component in the health care setting today.

These are the informatics knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for today’s healthcare providers:
