Module 06 Discussion – Final Class Thoughts And “Lessons Learned”

As you look back on the course, we will conclude the last week’s discussion with the posting of your final thoughts about project management and allow you to have the final forum where you can articulate lessons learned from this class, book and course.

For your discussion, please comment on the following:

What aspects of project management did you find the most interesting? The most tedious? What aspect of project management will you take to your workplace or apply in your daily lives? What part of project management do you find the easiest to do or to understand? The hardest? What are your personal plans regarding Project Management?

Strategy Formulation And Processes

You have just been hired by (your selected company) as its new vice president of strategic planning. The corporation’s performance in recent years as well as the changes with business and economic conditions will be a central focus of your new job.

Given the size of the corporation and the fact that it is in a highly competitive industry, the chief executive officer (CEO) to whom you report has already given you permission to hire a staff of recent Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates to assist you in your efforts. You recently completed the interviewing and hired four people with minimal real business experience.

In coming months, you and your team will be creating a completely new—and, presumably, more effective—strategic plan. You plan to begin by holding a kick-off meeting with your team.

Deliverable Length: 1,000–1,250 words

To feel confident that all of the employees in your strategic planning team understand all that you have taught them, you require each to prepare a streamlined version of the key elements of a strategic plan. You require each employee to prepare the following sections of a strategic plan for the corporation’s next 3-5 years:

Mission and Vision Statements (Simply copying from an existing real company is unacceptable.)

Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Bound (SMART) Goals and Objectives

Industry Analysis

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats, and Trends (SWOTT) Analysis

A Perceptual Map

Choose any criteria that you think are important to plot.

Explain why you picked the criteria.

Your task is to create a plan, following the same parameters, which will be the sample standard that your employees’ submissions should match

Critical Thinking: The Diverse Workplace And Leadership

The workplace is becoming more culturally diverse. It is important for leaders to understand and manage these differences in workplace culture and diversity.

Describe a time when you experienced culture or diversity differences in the workplace (either at your current or past place of work).

Based on these differences explain the following:

Describe the differences in culture and diversity by using Cultural Dimensions.

Compare and contrast your culture or the diversity factors with the differences that were presented in the workplace.

Explain how you or your leader handled the cultural or diversity differences.

Determine how these differences could have been mitigated. 

Examine the leadership style that you or your leader used to manage these differences.

International Strategy

Pick ONE of the following multinational companies and provide an analysis of their AAA international strategic choices, making the distinction between the primary A in the triangle and the secondary ones: 

 Intel 

 Vodafone 

 Nintendo 

 Nestlé 

 eBay

Use reliable sources (company annual reports, trusted journals and magazines) and quote in MLA style. 

Disney-Pixar Relationship

1.) Why was the relationship between Disney and Pixar working at the beginning? Who was getting more benefit from it? 

2.) Which was Disney’s reasoning for deciding to acquire Pixar? 

3.) Which type of structure should Disney have after the acquisition? 

 Report on how current MIS trends are being used within your job sector to solve organizational problems. Make sure to support your arguments with concrete examples. Also, discuss your key findings from your Web search. If you do not have a job at the present, choose a sector that may be of interest. Make sure to use the terminology from the chapter. 

As part of the course project, in Week 1, you will select an NPO of your choice. You should choose an organization in which an appropriate executive or manager will grant you reasonable access to key personnel, documentation, and other relevant information. Consider the Internet, interviews, and other research methods to select your organization. Please keep in mind that an NPO may require you to sign a disclosure agreement. Select your organization following a review of all the weekly research requirements in the course to satisfy yourself that your NPO has the information and resources you will need.

For your course project, you need to perform the following tasks:

Research various NPOs and select one for analyzing.

Write an analysis about why you chose this NPO.

Select a key manager to serve as an organizational liaison.

Develop a written agreement between you and the NPO and obtain necessary signatures.

Deliverables

Write a 2- to 3-page paper in a Microsoft Word document stating the following:

The name and brief background of the NPO you have chosen.

Reasons for selecting this NPO.

A biographical sketch of NPO liaison.

The list of available organizational resources, including key personnel, documentation, and other relevant information.

Work-Related Project Analysis

Resource: Work-Related Project Analysis, Part 1 (See attached)

Write a 1,400- to 1, 450 word paper that analyzes the work-related project specified in Week Two. Your paper should describe a workplace application architecture and process design.

the tools of systems analysis to describe the work-related information system’s architecture.

Analyze the data.

Analyze the processes.

Analyze the interfaces.

Analyze the networks.

Draw the physical and data flow and any other necessary diagrams.

Explain each diagram. You may need to talk to your systems department for some help.

Criminal Procedure

Please brief and analyze the cases of Katz v. United States and Terry v. Ohio.  

Answering the following questions will assist you in preparing your brief:

What were the facts in Katz v. United States?

What was the issue/legal question presented to the court?

What was the Court’s answer to the issue/legal question?

What was the Court’s opinion and the reasoning behind their decision?

Also, in Katz v. United States; what two-prong expectation of privacy test did Justice Harlan establish to determine if the government conducted a search?

Criminal Justice Mini Paper

Imagine our society without laws. How would order be maintained? How would individuals be protected from harm? How would society be protected? Law provides these protections, insulating society from mass chaos. Laws are needed to prevent the victimization of innocent people. They also uphold established patterns of social privilege and sustain existing power relationships.

One full page, headed with the student’s name. (No cover page.)

Narrative must be double spaced, with1 inch margins, written in #12 font.

All  supportive references must be cited in APA format with an in-text citation as well as a full citation on a separate Resources page. 

No directly quoted (copy/paste) material may be used in this project paper.

Resources should be summarized or paraphrased with appropriate in-text and Resource page citations.
