Humanities Pass/Fail Essay Short Story

This is a pass/fail assignment. To receive credit you must fulfill ALL assignment criteria. This assignment uses Turnitin, a teaching tool that records your "similarity" report. Submit your paper early enough so that you can check your report. If your similarity is more than 7-8% you must rewrite and resubmit. Only the newest submission is graded.

Choose one story from the list below and find at least two scholarly articles about the story and integrate what you learned from them in your essay. Try the SPC Library data base or Google Scholar. Wikipedia, SparkNotes, encyclopedias, and other sites that offer short-cuts are not acceptable for this assignment. You are being asked to use your own skills to understand and interpret this story.

Essay Instructions: Paragraph 1–a fully-developed paragraph (200 words minimum), where you identify the following elements:

4. Paragraphs 2 and 3–at least 250 words in each paragraph: explain your interpretation of this story. Use sufficient and specific evidence to directly support your thesis. Note that your interpretation is only one of the many possible meanings that the author is trying to convey and is a point over which reasonable people may disagree. Be sure to discuss how your researched interpretations of the story compare to your own interpretations (if there is disagreement).

5. Correctly cite the sources of your researched interpretations. You will find information regarding correct citation protocol in the Student Resources folder on the content menu. Be sure to use SPELL CHECK and proof read your essay.
