Information Systems and Technology

Prepare: For this discussion, you are required to read Chapter 7 of Making Strategy Count in the Human Services Sector  and select a minimum of one scholarly article from the Ashford library  that examines information systems issues within the health and human  services field (e.g., ethics, limitations related to use, employee  training, data quality, etc.)  The HealthIT, HUD, and Child Welfare  Information Gateway websites are good recommended resources to refer to;  they may be used, but do not replace your required scholarly article.

Reflect: Information systems play a vital role in  the collection of pertinent data within human service organizations. In  this second discussion forum for the week, you will choose one of five  case examples that illustrates the use of information systems and  scrutinize its application. Think about the issues and considerations  related to the application of information systems addressed in the  readings.

Write: After selecting one of the five information  systems case examples identified in pages 142-146 of the textbook,  critically assess the role of the Public Health Management Corporation  in your selected scenario, taking into account factors impacting its  successful development of information systems and how the use of  technology is applied in the delivery of human services. Then, using  your required scholarly resource, you will identify and explain a  minimum of three issues for consideration  (e.g., ethical challenges,  financial considerations, employee training, quality improvement, etc.)  that human service organizations should be mindful of to ensure  effective use of information systems.

The Causes of Poverty

1. Lack of education (with education you can get higher paying jobs).

2. Laid off.

3. Family size (making enough money to support all household member).

4. Public assistance (a person receiving benefits if opt to work will loose benefits. However, public assistance benefits are not enough to cover the basic needs).

5. Incarceration (inmates earn probably10 cents per hour).

6. Limited job opportunity (unemployment is higher sometimes).

7. Discrimination (being disabled, woman elderly).

8. Low wages (not wellpaid jobs).

Assignment 2: View of Moral Work

Assignment 2: View of Moral Work

In this module’s overview, you learned that human  services come in many different forms. There are different philosophies  guiding this work that, at times, might conflict with one another. This  is particularly true when the direct service provider’s personal values,  typically based on his or her cultural experiences and education and  training, conflict with the theoretical approach favored by the agency.  In addition, you examined the moral and regulatory influences on the  direct services provided to the clients.

In this assignment, you will examine the differences in  the philosophies of human services workers and their organizations. You  will also research on the two theoretical approaches used by human  services agencies in service delivery.

Tasks:

Using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, discuss the following points:

Discuss the influence of the competing  views between the personal values and morals of the human services  direct service provider that guide his or her work compared to that of  the philosophy and theoretical approach of an organization in a  professional environment. Cite some relevant examples to support your  answer

Discuss the two theoretical approaches that are used by human services agencies to provide direct services.

Best Practices and Proposed Intervention Related to the Social Issue

Best Practices and Proposed Intervention Related to the Social Issue

As you recall from the Week Two assignment, the scholarly  literature has explored various elements of your social issue through  theoretical frameworks and research studies. You will now extend your  analysis to include examples of best practices that serve as the  benchmark used by health and human service organizations in the  provision of care. Best practices consist of techniques, applications,  or approaches that have been consistently demonstrated through the  research to be the most effective for addressing a given problem or need  area.

In this third written assignment for the course, you will apply your  knowledge of U.S. health and human services delivery of care by  examining scholarly sources (e.g., articles from the Ashford University  Library, government sources, etc.) that provide information on best  practices that examine some aspect of your social issue.  Thus, you will  be asked to do the following:

Describe two to three examples of interventions, approaches, or  techniques that have been demonstrated to be effective in addressing  your social issue. A good place to begin your search is the HHS A to Z Index (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..  While specific examples of best practices will vary based upon the  topic, areas to consider can include, but are not limited to:

Case management approaches

Preventive services

Clinical intervention/therapies

Educational initiatives

Analyze elements pertinent to the best practices that you have identified. These include:

An overview of each practice (i.e., what they are, specific elements, how and where they are used, etc.).

Examination of evidence in the form of research studies that support  the effectiveness of the practices (i.e., description of study,  methods, and findings).

Evaluation of their strengths and areas for improvement.

Part 2: Doing the Research

Prepare a short (4-6 pages) research paper that identifies several key issues related to the scenario you chose for your Lot in Life (Your 16 year old comes into the house after attending a party, smelling of cigarettes and marijuana). Incorporate at least 8-10 scholarly, credible, and current references to support your ideas, drawing primarily from government and community resources/agencies as well as scholarly journals and books. Include in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.

Your paper should be double-spaced and use a standard font (e.g. Times New Roman, 12 pt). Be sure to include a reference list at the end of your Part 2 assignment.

Paste your Part 1 assignment in at the end of this research paper.

Sustainable Plans, Programs, And Design

Sustainable Plans, Programs, And Design

Meet with your group and identify a problem area within a city or region for which sustainability solutions could be applied to remedy, improve, or resolve the issue.

The written report of your project should follow this format and be 12-15 pages long.

· Introduction

o Provide the context and a situational analysis of the research topic at hand.

o Clearly state the issue your group will be exploring, why you chose it, and how sustainability offers a solution.

o What are the objectives of your research and plan? Why is it important to solve or mitigate the problem area that you have identified?

· Literature Review

o Perform research and locate scholarly articles that have been written about the issue and potential solutions,

o Summarize and synthesize the literature in this section, addressing how the literature has informed your solution.

· Methodology

o States and explains the process by which data, results, and evidence are collected, organized, and analyzed.

o What is the plan or organization for the research/study/design your group is undertaking?

o What is your approach? What data are you relying on and how are you collecting it?

Evaluate the impact of your country’s economic cycle on the long-term trends of financial asset prices

Evaluate the impact of your country’s economic cycle on the long-term trends of financial asset prices. You are required to provide examples to support your answer.

What if schools banned rewarding systems?

You are to write an individual essay of 2,500 words that documents your developing ‘research attitude’ while also addressing your group’s What If…? question in greater depth.

In the first section of the essay, you should discuss your group’s What If…? question by focusing on one academic paper, backing up the main points in the paper with evidence from other academic sources. You should provide a detailed critical evaluation of its content, approach and findings in relation to your topic. To support your individual stance, you can also refer to theories in sociology and any wider reading that is relevant.

In the second section of the essay, you are to provide a rationale for your group’s selected mode of presentation and a description of its potential use in the classroom along with a consideration of any limitations. You should reflect on your experience of learning online and in a group, throughout this course. Again, this discussion should be supported with references to relevant literature on both collaborative pedagogies, learning technologies, developing a critical perspective and anything else you consider relevant.

Finally, you should draw on your own experiences as a learner on the What If…? course to discuss any implications or connections for your role as a future teacher.

In summary,

the individual essay (2,500 words) must:

• articulate and present a critical, personal stance towards an educational issue that is supported

with a detailed discussion of ONE academic paper (LO 1,2)

• include a rationale for your selected mode of presentation for the group project that is supported

with links to literature; (LO 3,4)

• consider the potential of educational technology tools for communication and presentation in

the classroom (LO 4)

• make connections to your future teaching practice, including the experience of group work, from

the ideas you have explored on the course. (LO 1,2,3)
