Applied Nutrition for Sports Performance

Assignment cover sheet

Copy and paste the SSES cover sheet into your word document as the first page of your assignment so we can identify you and fill in the comments section when we have marked your assignment. You can find the assignment cover sheet in the assignment documents folder

Client summary sheet

This is a table which summarises your dietary analysis findings and some of the additional measures you will perform in your seminars. The template can be found in the assignment documents folder

Sum of skinfolds radar graph

In one of the seminars you will perform a 7 site skin fold analysis (in pairs). The data will be presented as a radar graph and this is to be placed directly following the client summary sheet above

Section 1. Athlete needs analysis

(500 words)

This section should outline your sport discipline (if you don’t do sport make one up and base the assignment on your chosen sport), the physiological demands of that sport and a summary of what the main nutritional challenges and requirements are for the specific athlete in question. (This must be supported with relevant literature)

Section 2. Average Macronutrient and fluid Intake

(800 words)

The athlete’s daily average macronutrient and fluid intake (amount of each nutrient they consume per day) will be discussed in this section. This will apply to the following nutrients:

Carbohydrate

Lipids

Protein

Fluid (consider total fluid from food and drinks)

You will to firstly briefly describe the importance of each nutrient with reference to the sports person your assignment is based on. Then discuss how much of the nutrient they should be consuming daily for their given sport and training level (again using primary research evidence to support this). Then compare the athlete’s intake per day of each nutrient to the research recommendations to determine if the athlete’s average daily intake is adequate.

Section 3. Timing of Nutrient intake

(1200 words)

By selecting one day of the athlete’s diet and activity record and the corresponding day’s analysis from nutritics. Critically look at the athletes timing of food and fluid intake and amounts for the following:

Pre exercise nutrients and Fluid (Carbohydrate loading, the pre exercise meal, fluid intake)

During Exercise Nutrients and Fluid (Mainy Fluid/electrolytes and carbohydrate)

Post Exercise Nutrients and fluid (recovery fluid replacement protein and carbohydrate)

NOTE only include sections that are relevant to your athlete e.g carbohydrate loading might not be applicable etc.

For each of the above sections, discuss why it’s important to have the correct amount of nutrients at the right time. Then for the athlete in question, discuss the relevant research recommendations for amounts and timing of nutrient and fluid intake for the specific athlete in question. Then critically discuss what the athlete’s actual diet is like in comparison to this. Is it adequate?

Section 4. A summary of the strengths and weaknesses of data collection methods used

(500 words)

Throughout this course you will become familiar with strengths and weaknesses of every step of nutritional analysis. In this section you will need to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of some of the data collection techniques you have used in the seminars. The data collection techniques will include

3 day diet and activity record

Skinfold analysis

The use of Nutritics a computer based analysis system to analyse dietary intake

BIG DATA analytics can contribute towards a sustainable supply chain?

Main Objective of the assessment

The purpose of this coursework is to develop skills in tying together theory and practice so that you gain valuable insight into the significance of marketing channels and logistics as a realistic activity.

TOPIC: How BIG DATA analytics can contribute towards a sustainable supply chain?

Description of the Assessment

The individual coursework assignment relates directly to the learning outcomes of this module and should consist of two parts – A and B:

Part A: State-of-the-Art-Review (1500 words)

In Part A, provide a state-of-the-art review on “Use of new Technologies in Logistics and Supply Chain and their implications for Sustainability” specifically discussing the trends, opportunities and challenges in this field using up-to-date academic journal articles and other articles.

A state-of-the-art review should consider mainly the most current research in the given area or concerning the given topic. It often summarizes current and emerging educational trends, research priorities and standardizations in a particular field of interest. The review must aim to provide a critical survey of the extensive literature produced in the past decade, a synthesis of current thinking in the field. It may offer new perspectives on an issue or point out an area in need of further research.

To conduct the analysis and review, search and use journal articles/papers published in the last ten years in some of the following academic journals (e.g.):

• International Journal of Production Economics

• Supply Chain Management: An International Journal

• International Journal of Production Management

• Journal of Operations Management

• Journal of Supply Chain Management

• International Journal of Production Research

• Production and Operations Management

Finally, present your state-of-the-art review in 1500 words by reading and analyzing papers published in the above listed journals in the last ten years.

Part B: Company Analysis (1500 words)

In Part B, you are expected to critically analyse the supply chain processes of any one of Fortune 500 companies. Once you have selected the company you would like to examine, prepare a report of 1500 words making sure you include the following in your analysis:

• A brief background of the company (300 words).

• An evaluation of the company’s supply chain & how new technologies contribute to its sustainability indicators (1200 words)

Part A and B Overall Requirements:

• References: A “References” section is required to be included at the end of the coursework. This section will include the details of all the references used for both Part A and B in the coursework (minimum 15 journal articles ABS 3* and 4*) as per Brunel University Library’s referencing style.

• Appendix: Additionally, you may include an “Appendix” section after the “References” section. This section will not be considered for calculating the number of words.

• Total Word Count: The assignment should be completed in report format of no more than 3000 words in total not including references, title page and appendices.

Did capitalism emerge in the city or the countryside?

Did capitalism emerge in the city or the countryside? What ‘social property relations’ were necessary for the development of capitalism? Why did they develop in agrarian communities? How do these differ from pre-capitalist relations according to Wood? How did relations between ‘appropriators’ and ‘producers’ become so market dependent?

Assignment 4: Planning Tools Application

Assignment 4: Planning Tools Application

Through the course of this semester a number of planning tools have been presented: Comprehensive planning, zoning, public involvement, GIS, NEPA, public health impact assessments, capital improvement programing, housing development, and transportation planning.  See the syllabus if you have questions about what is considered a tool.

Consider the problem of affordable housing along the Wasatch Front, discuss how planning tools could be best used to help analyze the underlying problems and present potential solutions.  Assuming the legislature allocated $100M to help alleviate the problem, how could these funds best be utilized?  What would the anticipated impacts be?  Alternatively you can choose a different topic from the Envision Utah, Your Utah Your Future, list and consider similar questions:

• Agriculture

• Air Quality

• Disaster Resilience

• Education

• Energy

• Jobs and Economy

• Public Lands

• Recreation

• Transportation and Communities

• Water

The paper can be up to 5000 words.  Feel free to include graphics or other materials to help illustrate points you are making.

Further key questions to consider:

• What is the underlying problem? Market availability, supply, demand, etc.

• What research tools could be applied to better understand the problem?

• Why is the recommended tool the best?

• How long would it take to apply the recommended tools?

• How can the planning tools discussed help provide more information to decision makers?

• Are there ways to present information to the public and include them in the decision making process?

Grading rubric:

Does the paper tie to the attached article and the readings assigned throughout the semester?

Level of thought included in the paper: Effort, shows logical arguments, defines the problem using data and research, provides meaning to any data presented

Quality of writing: No spelling or grammar problems.  Make sure sources and citations are used

Format: Introduction/purpose, body and conclusion
