Dale Emerson served as the chief financial officer for Reliant Electric Co., a distributor of electricity serving portions of Montana and North Dakota. Dakota Gasworks, Inc., a natural gas distributor that operated solely within North Dakota. Emerson went on a fishing trip with his uncle Ernest Wallace. Emerson mentioned to Wallace that I had been putting in a lot of extra hours at the office planning to takeover of Dakota Gasworks. When he returned from the fishing trip, Wallace purchased $ 20,000 worth of Reliant stock. Three weeks later, Reliant made to supply Dakota Gasworks stockholders and purchased 57 percent of Dakota Gasworks stock. Over the next two weeks, the price of Reliant stock rose 72 percent before leveling out. Wallace then sold his stock for a gross profit of $ 14,400. Using the information presented in the chapter, answer one of the following questions.

Dred Scott Book Paper

The Dred Scott Case brought the issue of racism & slavery to the forefront of the American political culture.  It has also been considered by legal and political scholars to be a “ghastly error”, the “product of an overly ideological and reactionary judge”, and a cause of the Civil War (5).  Many abolitionists and Northerners declared the Supreme Court’s decision to be illegitimate.  Others demanded obedience to the Court’s decision and decried disobedience as rebellion, treason, and unconstitutional.  Does the Supreme Court have an obligation to try and solve big national problems that cannot be settled by the political process?  In the selection of Supreme Court justices, how careful should the president be in choosing his nominee?   
You must cite and use Dred Scott v. Sandford: A Brief History with Documents, Edited by Paul Finkelman, Boston: Bedford/St. Martin’s, 1997 (see Syllabus) and/or the textbook and class notes.  You may use approved outside sources but you must first confirm these with the professor before inclusion.
