    Instructions
You are working for a local department store in the Operations Department. You notice that their business practices and use of technology are not up to date. You have worked other places that have relied more on digital technology that have been extremely successful, in part because of their operating efficiency.

Your company is considering making upgrades to several of your operating processes. Because of your history of working in more technologically progressive environments, you are asked by your supervisor to create a visual presentation with a timeline of digital growth in the organization and compare it to the digital growth in society in general. In discussing this project with your boss, it is clear that digital growth can refer not only to Internet and computers, but it can also refer to other aspects of business operations such as cash registers, phone services, advertisements, various tools for communication, etc. Your supervisor asks that this timeline be created to help you, your supervisor, and other stakeholders determine the advantages and disadvantages of a proposed upgrade in technology in the workplace with the overall goal of understanding what systems can be put into place or maintained that can help the store run as efficiently as possible. You are told that the timeline can be in any visual format that you choose.

For this timeline, you are to reflect and address the following sets of questions:

    • What is digital growth? Where is the company now in terms of digital growth?
    • What are some examples of technological advances that could be used in a department store operation?
    • What are some possible advantages and disadvantages of using advanced technology?
    • What is Big Data? How might Big Data be used in this business?
    • What are some possible advantages and disadvantages of the store using Big Data?
    • Do you believe that updating technology and business practices will be advantageous? Why or Why not?

Start with why

These are things that DO NOT belong in Packback:

  •   Questions that are phrased as a statement, not a question
  •   Questions that are closed-ended (only one “right” answer)
  •   Posts that are plagiarized or contain mostly quoted content
  •   Questions or responses that contain profanity or offensive language
  •   Questions about “class logistics” (tests, homework, schedule)
  •   Questions or responses that are not related to the subject matter of the community
  •   Duplicates of other questions or responses already posted
  •   Questions or responses that are intended for cheating

How to ask a great question on Packback

The goal of Packback is to create a community where everyone is sharing questions that foster valuable discussion, challenge existing ways of looking at the world, and uncover brilliant new ideas for applying class learning to the real world.

These are the 3 components of a GREAT question to post on Packback:

  •  It is OPEN for discussion, and can’t just be “Googled”
That means it has more than 1 possible valuable response, so that many people can share ideas and discuss.
  •  It SHARES interesting knowledge, source or ideas
Great questions share interesting information, sources or ideas from other thinkers, and take them one step further to create a new idea or perspective.
  •  It BUILDS connection between the class and the real world
Great questions apply and connect class information to real world problems or concepts from other classes. Some of the most creative new ideas come from combining two unrelated ideas, a technique known as “Combinatory Thinking”.

PURPOSE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT:  As an interdisciplinary field of study, kinesiology uses written forms of communication and involves the application of biological, chemical, physical and mathematical principles to the study of human movement and health.  While much of the writing you will do as an undergraduate asks you to report and interpret experimental findings, some writing skills will ask to reflect on large-scale problems, such as the impact of health issues on our society.

One of the goals/outcomes of this assignment is to demonstrate a thorough understanding of a topic in the field. The goal is to develop a thorough summary of an area/topic of study and an opinion about the findings of the study as well as a practical application in your intended field.

SKILLS: This assignment will also help you practice the following skills that are essential to your success in this course/in school/ and in this field and professional life beyond school:

  • Understanding basic disciplinary knowledge by selecting a relevant topic for your research article
  • Identify tools in the library to assist you with identifying the topic and locating a research article based on the following criteria
    • Human subjects research
    • Relevant topic in Kinesiology
    • Research (Methods, Results, Discussion)
  • Read and review literature in the field and report on the methodology, results, discussion and conclusion.
  • Analyze and synthesize the information obtained from reading/reviewing the research article.
  • Interpret the evidence (textual, visual and graphical forms).
  • Critically evaluate the article by pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the study.
  • Apply information you learned from the article to relevant issues you are learning about in class.

KNOWLEDGE:  This assignment will also help you to become familiar with the current (within five years) content knowledge in this discipline.

  • Select a topic on the knee or shoulder complex (related injuries/prevention or rehabilitation of)
  • Read the article thoroughly once to make sure you understand it.
  • Review the Grading Rubric
  • Write your research critique
  • Check your critique to make sure you have included all elements of the grading rubric and items listed in criteria for success
  • Have someone proofread your critique.

Peer response!

Danay Sosa,

Thank you to those who serve our country, giving their lives for our freedom. Today we remember them and extend our gratefulness and condolences to their families.

PICOT: For pregnant patients, during weeks 38-40 of gestation, does screening for depression with the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale, compared to current practice (postpartum period only), impact earlier identification and referrals to counseling in 8-10 weeks?

Discuss what you learned about the presentation from your readings this week. How will you incorporate what you learned about best practices for PowerPoint and professional presentations in your Project Implementation Presentation assignment and future presentations?

PowerPoint (PP) has become a popular tool for public speaking. It helps to guide the presentation by giving clues to what will be the next idea. Recent research focuses on the impact of PP on students and their retention rates (Gordani, & Khajavi, Y., 2019).   Best practices in PowerPoint are implemented during professional presentations by not having more than six words per line and no more than six lines per slide. Another crucial aspect of an appealing display is appropriate font size. The audience should be capable of following the slide without effort. Medicine is a field where PP presentations help lecture students successfully (Tarkowski, 2017). The PowerPoint is only a guiding tool and should not be used to read off the entire slide. I plan to incorporate these best practices when presenting my DNP project at a conference. Learning how to give in public can also help me improve my teaching skills. I teach electronic fetal monitoring, a class that lasts two 8 hours a day. This class tends to be boring, and it is because the presentation is crowded with many details. Even though the Association of Womens Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) owns the course, I could provide feedback on my new skills regarding presentations.

Share your implementation progress and any successes, barriers, or challenges you are experiencing with your project implementation.

Implementation continues as planned. As I mentioned last week, the staff is less resistant to the new intervention. Patients cooperate as they do not sense any difference from their prior visits. Screening has increased. An unforeseen difference from the planned implementation is that the front desk staff will help the patients obtain an appointment with a mental health provider. Finding and making an appointment for mental healthcare is an additional stress for a depressed pregnant patient. Assisting the patients in this process will allow for improvement in the postpartum depression incidence, which is what I initially set as my goal for this project.

Kindly,

Danay Sosa

Porn Effects

Write an essay that argues a position on an issue that has distinct opposing ideas. Engage in an argument concerning an issue that has not been resolved–especially an issue with multiple viewpoints. For example, consider a reporter going to the scene of a car accident, interviewing six different witnesses and getting six different perspectives. It happens. That is why research/evidence comes into play. However, you must take a stance in this paper, consider at least one opposing argument, then come back and describe where your viewpoint is more solid, especially if your viewpoint can lead to a resolution, compromise or “call to action.”

Examine the different issues of the argument: objections, questions, and opposing viewpoints. Then state your own position clearly. The objective of the essay is to convince those who disagree with you that they must take seriously the question that you raise.
