Obstacles to CT

Provide examples of (1) an evidence-biased obstacle and (2) a truth-biased obstacle that you’ve recently encountered in your everyday life. So, you only need to come up with a total of two examples, by choosing onesubtype from each category (subtypes are listed below). Be sure to identify which two subtypes you’re using in your examples.

The examples should be drawn from your own experience – either a claim you made that expresses an obstacles or one that you observed someone else making. Important: make sure that you formulate your examples as claims, NOT as behaviors or actions. (CT deals with the motivations behind claims, psychology deals with the motivations behind behaviors or actions.)

* For full credit, you must submit an original post; your post will be graded for completion, effort, and accuracy. Commenting on the posts of your peers is encouraged, but not required.

Evidence-biased thinking: (1) resisting contrary evidence; (2) seeking confirming evidence; (3) preferring available/compelling evidence

Truth-biased thinking: (4) motivated reasoning; (5) homophily; (6) mere exposure effect; (7) illusion-of-truth effect; (8) false consensus effect; (9) Dunning-Kruger effect.

World Literature

With June as LGBTQ+ Pride month, we see a changing view of sexuality in our society today. Over the centuries, Sappho’s sexuality has been perceived by critics and various cultures through a wide variety of lenses, ranging a spectrum from heterosexual to bisexual to homosexual. Recently, many celebrities, such as Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, have self-identified as pansexual or in other ways questioned traditional societal norms of gender identity and sexual orientation. Who are some famous people that you follow or admire who have openly talked about their sexuality and gender orientation? What lessons can we learn from them and society’s view of sexuality?

Servant Leadership Comprehensive Case Study (minimum 5 pages)

Each student will identify and select a leader that they have access to and that they would identify as a servant leader. The student will interview the leader to obtain the following information: –

– How do they get others committed to their vision or mission?

– How do they react if they have an employee that is struggling in their work and not showing any progress? Do they think that character can be taught?

– After they achieved success, how did they avoid getting a big head?

– A leader must mentor, but they also have to discipline from time to time. How do they balance these elements? What have they learned, good and bad, from the leaders they have worked for in the past?

After completing the interview, the student must analyze the leaders responses. Was their own self-assessment accurate? Are they truly a servant leader? The student will synthesize the interview details and their analysis into a paper (5 pages minimum).

We develop good DR plans and  some of those plans will include a remote recovery site (hot or cold).  How do we ensure that the remote site is protected like we would the  main location? Discuss the challenges of maintaining information  security at a remote recovery location.

Instruction for Review 2

  • Section II Methods: In this section, you will describe how you conducted your search.  You will discuss how you selected your search terms and what terms you used.  You will also include a chart that shows the process by which you selected your final 10 articles.
  • Apply knowledge of Emergency Management literature and data

You will use Excel to summarize your review literature. This tool is useful in organizing your articles with their summaries, which will assist you in writing your methods and discussion sections. You will submit your excel sheet in upcoming modules.

You should include the following components in this sheet:

  • Column 1: Article title
  • Column 2: Citation
  • Column 3: Research design and methods
  • Column 4: Article Summary
  • Column 5: Findings

Organizational behavior

t his final paper asks you to apply at least ONE topic from the course to attempt to solve a specific problem that exists in an organization with which you are familiar. That problem should center on either a job performance issue or an organizational commitment issue. The final paper should be 1000 words in length (all inclusive).

Your paper can focus on either a current or past employer of yours, or some other company with which you have significant familiarity. Whats needed is some knowledge of the inner workings of the company–its struggles, its strengths, its climate, and so forth. The paper should include the following four sections:

1. Organization – Provide just enough details on the company for me to be able to understand the problem that will be described. Resist the urge to provide irrelevant details and feel free to omit or disguise any details that might be sensitive in nature.

2. Problem – Describe, specifically, one problem that the company is struggling with that will serve as the focus of the paper. Resist the urge to discuss multiple problems–focus on one specific issue with which the organization is struggling. Be sure to focus on a problem that can be impacted by the relevant topics.

3. Topic – Choose at least ONE topics from the list below and apply those topics to the problem. Describe very specifically how the concepts, principles, and findings represented in the topic matter to the problem, and how they can be leveraged to articulate a solution.

Value-precept theory
Job characteristics theory
Challenge-hindrance stressors
Expectancy theory
Goal setting theory
Equity theory
Psychological empowerment
Cognition-based trust
Justice
Ethical decision making
Cognitive ability
Emotional intelligence
Team processes
Types of power
Transformational leadership
4.  Recommendations – Provide a list of very specific recommendations/action steps that flow out of the discussion of the topics and that can help solve the problem. In thinking about how to craft the topics into those recommendations, strike a balance between being practical and being bold. Every organization has key constraints that need to be taken into account when designing interventions.  Although those should be considered, resist the urge to play it safe, as that tendency often leads to modest interventions that are ultimately ineffective.

Beyond the parameters above, please bring your own self-expression, initiative, and creativity to the content and style of the paper. 80% of the paper grade will revolve around content issues, with 20% revolving around writing style issues–please see rubric for additional details

Reflection

In Unit 2 – Confronting Injustice, we look at injustices in the workplace. This week’s article ‘When your resume is (not) turning you down: Modelling ethnic bias in resume screening’ explores possible WHY’s behind resume screening biases. Considering the theoretical perspectives answer (1) Why do you think resumes are subject to biased decision-making, particularly ethnic discrimination? (2) What are some ways an organization can counter biased decision-making towards resumes, particularly ethnic/racial discrimination? Try to be as specific as possible. Be sure to reference the article.

Watch video and give reflection 2 paragraphs

**PLEASE READ – Reactions for this week should include: (1) The Urgency of Intersectionality (2) Disabling Ableism: The Modern Pathway to Inclusion (3) Want a More Just World? Be an Unlikely Ally**
