Week 3

Interview

By now you should have completed your interview with someone from your field of interest. The interview format should be based on the following types of questions:

  • Demographic questions: This is common in interviews and questionnaires. Typically, demographic questions include questions regarding age, gender, race or ethnicity, marital status, education level, career title (job), and types of jobs held. Do not include questions that identify an individual, that is, questions regarding name, address, and relationship with you.
  • Interview questions: Personal interview questions differ from a questionnaire or survey in that they are much less structured. They are open-ended and lead to a narrative. For the interview you will need to ask four to five questions related to the profession. However, be prepared to ask follow-up questions to further probe into the topic area, if needed. The types of questions should follow these general themes:
  • Skills and experienceThis theme covers questions related to the individual’s education and experience.
  • Types of workThis theme covers questions related to the individual’s typical work day.
  • Professional developmentThis theme covers questions related to the types of continued education/training needed after formal education (college).
  • Future prospectsThis theme covers questions related to the state of the profession and potential career prospects.

When conducting the interview follow this guide:

  • First, locate individuals whom you plan to interview. Call him/her or send an e-mail to make an appointment. Introduce yourself as a student of University. Explain that you need to interview him or her as part of a class project
  • Conduct a one-on-one interview. The interview can be completed via a phone interview if you are not able to find someone in your area.
  • Take detailed notes.
  • Besides answers to the questions, note other relevant information shared.

What is due for this assignment is a summary r eport on the interview detailing the following information:

  • Interview questions asked
  • Demographic information
  • Summary of responses to questions

Week 3 Discussion

For this week, you will review two case studies. Each study has some particular issues regarding ethics in psychology. For each case review the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct and explain which specific ethical standards may be violated in the cases. American Psychological Association (APA). You can access the link here:

Case One:

Jackie made an appointment to see Dr. Roberts, a local psychologist. Over the past 6 months Jackie was having problems sleeping, seemed to get angry at both his family and co-workers with little provocation, and had lost weight. After several tests his physician had ruled out any potential medical issues and recommended that Jackie make an appointment with a psychologist.

At his appointment Jackie completed several forms including information regarding any use of medications, illegal drug use/alcohol consumption, sexual preference, and religion. He also completed some questionnaires regarding his mood state. Dr. Roberts reviewed the information and noticed that Jackie had described his sexual orientation as gay. Upon reading this Dr. Roberts had told Jackie that she will be unable to treat Jackie due to his sexuality. She explained that being gay presents problems that compound any psychological problems that he may have. Dr. Roberts then provided a resource for psychological services that may be a better fit for his type of person.

Case Two:

John recently graduated with his doctorate in psychology and was about to begin his internship hours required for his licensure. He reviewed several potential sites and thought the best one was with Dr. Roberts. According to the information presented on her web site, Dr. Roberts has been a licensed psychologist for over 10 years with specializations in child and adolescent psychology. Her web site was very inviting and listed several advertisements including one to an in-patient treatment center. There were several testimonials from former patients (names not included) regarding how Dr. Roberts was so helpful with their conditions. One of the things that caught John’s attention was Dr. Robert’s information on the use of hypnotism to examine repressed memories in order to get to the truth of a person’s problems. John was curious about digging a bit deeper regarding the information provided on the web source especially in regards to ethical issues.

Statistics

Assignment 2 & Your first step for the final project project is to identify a data set of interest from Kaggle that is amenable to Excel manipulation and allows for extensive application of analytics models from our course. For example, a data set about types of jobs in the technology field might be interesting, but does not qualify (not a business analytics issue at the center of the topic). However, a data set about a company’s sales or customer satisfaction, etc. works fine. Kaggle has some great data sets for our purposes — Sales, satisfaction, HR analytics, etc. Have fun – find something you like.

Once you have identified a data set upload the data set in Excel. If it is approved, 10 points extra credit  are awarded if submitted before 11:45 PM on 6-12-22. I will also confirm in writing that it is approved (i.e. will add comment on Sakai). If it is not approved, it will receive a score of zero (0) in the grade center. Keep submitting a new data set until approved.

Here is the Kaggle location for the data set search:

International trade

The U.S. economy relies heavily on international trade. Choose two transactions at random that result from international trade; one where purchases are made from another country and one where the U.S. sends a product to another country. Identify the impact of each of these on imports, exports, net imports, and net exports at the time the transaction takes place.

For example, if you purchase a product online that is made in and shipped from Italy to you in the United States what is the effect on the U.S. economy in these four categories at the time of the transaction?

In addition, there has been a lot of news in recent years surrounding tariffs. Exactly what is a tariff and what is the impact of tariffs on international trade? Who pays the cost of tarffs?

Please present your explanation in a well-written narrative complete with an introduction to global trade, good paragraph structure, and footnotes. Do not list bullet points.

Discussion

Below are the questions for which you will prepare a well-developed and written 1 paragraph (or longer) answer per question/sub-question:
**It is expected that your answers to each question/sub-question below will be 1+ well-constructed and organized paragraphs. More than one paragraph may be necessary based on the nature of the question.

Include the name of the article, author, and year of publication.

  1. What role did the executives play in the culture change?
  2. What did they change?
  3. How does this differ from what you would have done to change the culture?
  4. What would you do if you were in the role of a CEO in times of crisis (post-pandemic) to maintain a healthy culture?

Unit 7 DB: Religion in Today’s Climate

How does today’s stereotyping, bias and racial profiling intersect with religion? Are personal opinions fueled by social media outlets affecting how we understand or view religious beliefs? Use examples from society to support your thoughts on this topic.

You must support your response with scholarly sources in APA format.  Simply stating your opinion is not enough, back up your opinion with citations.
